iphone went dark. will not turn on. died at end of a call.  tried the power/home holding option.. no good.  had plenty of power.  when plugged into computer

If a reset didn't work & you're sure the battery is charged, make an appointment at an Apple store.

Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

You mean lock and home key right? I have the same problem with my 4th gen iPod touch. Seems as though if I hold the buttons again a 2nd time, the iPod automatically restarts as it loads the apple screen that appears when you turn on the iPod/iPhone but I can't get the iPod to stay turned off.

You make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store and get it serviced/replaced. You broke it. If you can't even force a reboot, there's nothing much more you can do.

  • Syncing iphone... will not authorize anything

    Hi
Just syncing my iphone as I usually do and when i went to sync it says that your computer is no longer authorized to have these apps that are on your iphone
I fill in the details and it says
There was an error storing your authorization details on this computer try repair itunes in add/remove programs
I tried that like 3 times with no luck!
If i say dont authorize it pulls the apps from my phone!!
    whats going on??

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone first.
If this is a new computer or your existing computer has been repaired, first disable automatic syncing when an iPod or iPhone is connected at iTunes > Preferences under the Devices tab.
You need to authorize the computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
To manually create a backup for your iPhone without syncing first, right-click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up.

  • Do I need to back up my iMac to an external HD? if so should I partion the drive and use it for storage as well

    At a loss...

Highly recommended you have at lesat the incremental backups automated by Time Machine (the software).  Time Machine makes backups so easy to setup and after that you ‘forget’ about backups as all tasks occur in the background, hourly by default.
If you use Time Capsule (the hardware) for your backups, you should not partition that drive.  If you use a conventional external drive, you can consider partitioning it so that one volume is dedicated to Time Machine and one volume for example for other data purposes.  When you have an external drive, you need to drag it to the Trash icon on the dock to eject the drive before you shutdown (or restart) the computer; this will ensure all data is physically written to the drive and buffers cleared.  When you partition the external drive, ensure that both partitions are ejected before you shutdown.
The first time Time Machine runs, it does a full backup and can take quite a long time depending upon how much you are backing up.  After that, it only backs up data that has changed and is usually very quick.  At anytime, you can delete those backups and do a new full backup if you wish.  It keeps old versions of everything you backup as long as you have space on the drive.  When you are nearly out of space, Time Machine deletes the oldest versions of files until it has made enough room to continue backups.  You’ll always have at least one complete image of all your data backed up assuming your backup volume is always larger than the data you wish to backup.  If your backup disk is not large enough to hold everything, you can select files you do not wish to be backed up by Time Machine, for instance, you may have large video capture files from HDV tape that you do not need to backup because they are already on tape.

  • HT201263 My iPod Touch shows the Apple logo but does not respond to holding the home and lock buttons or being plugged in. iTunes does not recognize it either

I plugged my iPod into my computer to retore it and proceeded to do so as told. The only thing that happened after that was that the Apple logo keeps showing up and nothing else. My computer/iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod either.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPad did something similar, as did my iPod. I charged it and it turned black, the screen wouldn't turn on but the insides were still working. A reset brought it back.

  • HT1688 my iphone 4 will not turn on all of the sudden it was off and will not do anything how do I fix it?

HELP my iphone 4 will not do anything I can't get it to turn on!!!

It is usually given as a communication error between Apple, iTunes (your computer), iPhone. Somewhere they are not communicating, so the iOS you are trying to install cannot be approved by Apple. Trouble shooting steps include, making sure you have Current iTunes installed, make sure your Hosts file of computer is not blocking Apple. Try restoring on another computer.

  • HT2693 my iphone has froze up and it will not do anything, i am getting a blank black screen and it will not turn off completely or turn on.  i dk what to do.  any information would help greatly.

My daughter was playing a game on my husbands phone and it froze on her.  The screen displayed the turnoff slide bar or cancel, he tried to hit cancel and it did nothing, so he slid the slide to turn off.  when he did that he proceeded to turn off, but never completely shut off, and now the phone will do nothing!  I have tried restoring and also hooking up to itunes.  i do not know what to do in this situation.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  i dont know if there is a way to take the back off to remove the battery.  if you could give me some information that would be great.  thank you

Try a reset by pressing and holding the Power and Home buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.
Was the battery replaced by Apple or an authorized repair facility?  If not, and any warranty existed, that warranty is now void.

  • My iphone 4 screen went black and will not come back on, the screen lights up but is still black and will not show anything on the screen, it still vibrates though. help

my iphone 4 screen went black and will not show anything on it, the phone still vibrates and lights up but the screen is black, HELP.

I have a similar problem.  I restored my iPhone 5 to the latest available OS.  After completing the process the phone never restarted.  The phone was fully charged when I restored it but now refuses to charge past the red battery icon.  I have been able to get the phone in UFD mode several times and have been able to load the new OS on the phone.  The Apple logo does come on and the software fully loads.  iTunes tells me the phone will restart but never does.  I left it to charge all night but it never appeared to load the battery.  This morning I went to the Grand Central Terminal apple store for help.  A woman at the store plugged the phone in but it never charged.  She absolutely refused to believe that I got my phone in UFD mode and loaded any software on.  I don't think it is a battery issue.  The only solution I was given was to buy a new phone.  Repairing it was out of the question.  At this point the phone is completely useless.  Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hello there, Faustinamarfo.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some troubleshooting steps for your issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    Particularly:
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

The Update would not have Installed if it was not suitable for your Device.
