There is nothing to do because you need to plug it into a computer and connect to iTunes. If you don't have a computer then there is nothing you can do.

Doesn't sound like your restored from your backup, otherwise pics in your camera roll would've transfer over.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The backup files (IPD/BBB, depending on the version of the desktop software used) are of a proprietary format, intended solely for use in restoring to a BB. Natively, there is no other purpose, and they are not in "human readable" format.
But, there are 3rd party PC-based apps out there that can parse the file and translate it into human-readable format. A few seconds searching on Google and I'm sure you find one that does what you need...and for free, as far as I recall.
Before you ask...no, I can't recommend one over another. I've never had need to do what you need to do. But I know others who have had good luck with Magic Berry (I think it's called that).

I updated my software last night and when I came back to the computer its says there was a problem and I need to restore factory settings. How do I get my photos and videos off the phone

The first step in the update process via iTunes on the computer is a backup.
Restore the device from the most recent backup.
If data is lost, then it is merely the fault of the user for not backing up the device or saving their data regularly.
Once the device is in recovery mode, the ONLY option is to restore.

Did you follow the article you linked above? An iPhone running a new version of iOS can be restored by using the backup of an iPhone running a lower version. You can also follow this article:

So it appears iCloud/iTunes Match isn't the issue - the error message would seem to be complaining about where the music is being downloaded to. So with this in mind:
In iTunes select Preferences and select Advanced. The iTunes media folder should be set to /Users/<your account>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music. <your account> would be whatever your user account is. If you see something else there I'd guessing it is a folder you don't have permission to write to.
