HT201364 Hi, I have a MacBook with Mac OS X v10.6.8, but it will not let me update to Mavericks?
How do I update my MacBook with OS X 10.6.8
The MacBook (black or white) cannot upgrade to Mavericks. The hardware isn't supported. The newest OS it can run is Lion (10.7.5).

I am trying to set up an IPad with an Apple account already in use but it will not let me do so. What do I ned to do so i can have Apple ID on Ipad and other items?
Hi,
Yes you can contact Apple UK at daytime, for free, in the Chat.
Just go to the iPad page, then press buy now in the upper right corner, and then in the upper right corner you will see the phone number, and next to it,(only at daytime) you will see a button, writing something like contact else, I don't really know what is the exact label, but it works.
Good luck -
I have an iPad mini, but it will not let me update. It is saying that I do not have an internet connection, but I am connected to the wifi. I have tried on 2 different wifi networks and I do not have internet service-it's wifi only. How do I update?
Please download iTunes from Apple.com and then sync your ipad. After which your ipad will appear on the right hand side upper corner of iTunes.Select your ipad and click check for update, once update has been found click update and follow the steps after that.

I have an older version of iTunes on my office computer and it will not allow me to upgrade to the newer version without an administrative password. How can I get around this???
If you have an iBook G4, (PPC) you can't do much.
But if that is a MacBook (intel) you may be able to
upgrade the OS X, if the hardware is up to it...
Since there were about nine different build models
of MacBook (not powerpc iBook) to identify what
one you have would be the first step to knowing
what OS X and RAM upgrades it could use.
If the computer is not already at OS X 10.6.8,
it can't go online to get or use OS X 10.7.5. So,
when you more accurately describe the 'Book,
detailed information is available.
When you find the serial number, there is a web
page that can be used to identify by serial no.
http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
That'd be a first step. Or even the Model number
which should be visible on the outer case by hinge.
Good luck & happy computing! -
I believe it is running an older version of maverick it is 10.6.8 but it will not let me update any further . I added 3gb of ram to upgrade from the original 2gb it came with but still no updates are being allowed Does anyone have any idea why this is ? I am sure the criteria for the upgrade is available so I don't know why I can not up date it?
10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.
Run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
iCloud system requirements:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
or Mountain Lion:

I have a macbook pro 17" 1,1 model (early 2006), but I do not have installation discs.
If I order a replacement, what version is it?
Can I install the latest version 10.8.4 in 1,1 model?
If it is possible, what I have to do to get it done? And the price?
ThanksMacBookPro1,1 can only run Mac OS X 10.6.8, as it has got a 32-bit processor.
If you order replacement DVDs, Apple will send you DVDs with the original Mac OS X version that came with your Mac, in this case, Mac OS X 10.4.5.
If you decide to get replacement DVDs, Apple will only charge you for the delivery -
I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro, I am trying to run MW3 but it will not work without crashing a few minuets into the game. The general specs on my computer are a dual processor 2.53 ghz. 4 gb ram and a NVIDIA geforce 9400 (9600 is the alternate card).
Things to note:
I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.
any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you.Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and I need to update my iMovie, but it will not let me because I need version 10.7.4 or later. I tried downloading this version but it would not let me because I need 10.7. My question is how do I download 10.7 in order to update my iMovie?
Lion should still be available if you call the online Apple Store. If the Apple Store still has it, they will ask for your Apple ID and credit card number and will then send you a code which you can redeem in the Mac App Store. The Lion installer will download and run automatically.
Confirm compatibility with your current applications and Lion before you upgrade; in particular you will not be able to run any appications that were written only for PowerPC Macs.

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased in 2009 (It doesn't have a SD card slot, but is an aluminum body). Right now it's using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and will not let me update any further, which means that I cannot install any new versions of iTunes or some other programs. How can I fix this?

You can't upgrade beyond 10.5.8, that is the final step for Leopard.
You can purchase Snow Leopard (10.6.x) from Apple (but you should have 2G of Ram installed, and sufficient hard drive space). Your Mac is fully capable of running Snow Leopard and will probably already meet the specs I mentioned. -

Download them to iTunes abd then sync the apps. Make an appointment with Apple and see what the problem is. -

Identifying iPod models
iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. -
I have OS X 10.6.8 on my mac and have just downloaded 10.7.4 (needed for imovie 11) but it will not update. What has happened to the downloaded update?
When you downloaded Lion from the Appstore (and paid 29$) you have 10.7.4.
After the download you will find it in the Applications folder: that is the installer ! The installer vanishes when used, thus if you want to make an installer disk (to avoid a later redownload), you should do it before you run this installer. You can use "Lion Diskmaker" for that (use a 8GB USB stick), http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39701/lion-diskmaker/
