About all you can do is wait until it finishes or you get an error message.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entries, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

They downloaded into seperate files but when I double click the .exe file for the 7z it works fine, however with the other file i recieve a message that "The file archive part of adobe Photoshop 11 is missing. You need all parts in the same file to extract Adobe Photoshop 11. Please download all parts." It looks like the download should be fine, I never recieved an error and I've now downloaded it twice (it takes forever) and neither will work. How long do you leave it?
Mine can sometimes sit for quite a while (maybe 10 minutes??) before it finally finishes.
You could look at the relevant logs via Console (Utilities folder) to see if Software Update is complaining about anything.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

With regard to what? I assume that since the link connected to your question was from the "How to update your iDevice" kb article, you are talking about seeing this behavior after you updated the iPad.
So, if that's the case, it really shouldn't take but a minute or so, if it even takes that long. If this has been going on for minutes and minutes, the update process is stuck now. You can try restarting the iPad and see if the iPad behaves normally. That might be all that you need to do to set things right again. If restarting just takes you back to this page loading again, you can try rebooting the iPad.

I'm having the same problem. I have my main Library on a WXP machine and a new W7 laptop. My iphone 4 sees the library from the W7 machine, but neither the laptop nor the iphone see the big library on the WXP machine. Has the movie file been corrupted? Can I recover the rental even though the time has elapsed? Will I be charged?

Did you figure this out? I haven't rented a movie in this new iTunes yet and saw one tonight I wanted to rent. Same fricken thing is happening to me. I hate this new iTunes, and I really hate that there are problems like this....why the heck do they have to fix something that isn't broken and break it? This just really stinks.
