HT201401 When I plug my phone in to my pc to download photos, it sates my devce has no photos

When I plug my iphone 5 in to my PC to download photos, it states there are no photos on my device, tried different leads, none work

You didn't say, but did you start your camera application on the computer? That application should "see" your iphine and be able to copy photos from the Camera Roll.
Please provide some additional information? Where in the iPhone are the photos you are trying to copy to the PC. Are they in the Camera Roll or are they in some alternate album?
