HT201472 My iPad was stolen is there a way to summit serial number to apple so if someone try to put apps into it they will flag apple of a stolen iPad

What happens if someone trys to install apps on a stolen ipad

There is nothing Apple can or will do to deal with stolen property.  Chang all of your passwords associated with accounts on the iPad so they cannot be accessed.
If you turned on Find My under iCloud on the iPad, and registered it in iCloud's Find My Phone, login to iCloud, click on Find My Phone and see if it shows up.  If it does you can send a disable signal or wipe signal.

  • HT4061 My Ipad was lost and I do not have the serial number - is it possible to find it via apple id?

I recently lost an Ipad (forgot it on an airplane) and now the lost and found service
of the airline is requesting that I send the serial number - I haven t written it down
anywhere + on the purchase invoice it is not written so I am wondering if the serial
number of the device can be found through the Apple ID that was used on the device?

If you synched the iPad to your computer at any time, launch iTunes, go to the Preferences, select Devices, and hover your cursor over the backup file for the iPad. That should show you the serial number. The serial number will also be on the iPad box, if you still have it.
    Regards.

  • Stolen 30GB. No way to report serial number to Itunes.

I'm 47. Just reported to police that my 30GB was stolen out of my car. I'm very surprised and disappointed that there is not a way to advise Apple of my serial number so the thief can not assume new ownership, buy downloads, etc. and go on with his filthy life. Sure, I have all my tunes, etc. in my computer, so the hassle to re-load everything is not an issue. The issue is that there is no way to protect one's ipod. Therefore, I'm not sure if I'll buy another. Furthermore, I assume if I do buy another, Itunes will work with it without any issues?
I hope my post is not screened and deleted by Itune staff to avoid letting other Ipod customers know this. Again, I'm 47, got all receipts. Not a kid looking for anything free.

You aren't the first to suggest this, but you have to realise how many iPods are stolen worldwide every year. And what about those that are just lost? What about those that are legitimately sold on places such as eBay? What about ones that are given away (such as me giving an older iPod to another member of my family to use on a different computer)?
And what about those that are just lost? What about those that are legitimately sold on places such as eBay? What about ones that are given away (such as me giving an older iPod to another member of my family to use on a different computer)?
What about having your computer hacked and someone intentionally disabling your iPod just for the fun of it?
What about those mischievous folks who are in dispute with someone else and who want to cause trouble for others by having their iPods disabled? You know the kind of thing, you give an iPod to your boy/girlfriend as a present, then split up and......well you know where I'm going with this.
I understand the principle behind what you are saying, but the possibilities of abusing a system like you suggest are endless, and if Apple were to implement this procedure it would be an administrative and logistical nightmare, not to mention any legal ramifications.

  • Is there a way to delete serial number in the metadata

I asked this before, but maybe v 1.1 is better or someone else is reading this.
Somewhere along the way, the serial numbers in hundreds of my pictures got corrupted with gobbledygook. So my metadata window in my library is filled up with hundreds of different and false serial numbers.
I would just like to delete them to clean up the window.
I tried reinstalling the files, but the data is corrupted. Its corrupted in my backup.
Can anyone tell me how to delete this c**p?
    Andy

Maybe a better long term solution.... why don't you edit your images (with some propper metadata tool) by writing correct serial number into metadata?

  • HT5622 I never set up icloud and my ipad has been stolen is there any way i can find it still?

I never set up icloud on my ipad and it has been stolen is there any way i can still track it without it being turned on the device?

    Nope.
What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • I have bought a new Iphone 4S and also own a Mac pro, also IPad.        I did not install find my phone on the IPad, my IPad has either been misplaced (have tore the house up looking for it) or it has been stolen is there any way I can find where it is at

I resently purchased the New IPhone 4S, and I have a mac Pro, plus a IPad.  I have misplaced my IPad or it has been stolen is there any way by using Find My phone it can be located Thanks Look for My IPad

Unless you set up MobileMe / Find My iPad on it before it was lost/stolen, then no, there isn't any way to locate it. If you did set up MobileMe on it then you could try locating it either via me.com on a computer or Find My iPhone / Find My iPad on a another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or MobileMe disabled on it.
If you think that it was stolen then you should report it to the police. As a safety precaution you should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

SIgn in with your Apple ID, the same one you used to access this support forum.
Hopefully, you will see a list of all the devices you registered with your Apple ID, including their serial numbers. Let me know how this works out.
Edit to add: If you enabled "find my imac" on your Pro, you ought to be able to remotely lock it, or even wipe its memory. Click http://www.icloud.com/ sign in with your Apple ID and click the big green "find my iPhone" icon (nevermind the name, it will find all your devices provided they're running Lion or iOS 5).
Then file a police report and nail the b*****d.

  • I have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

i have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

    Try this:
Open the "Find my iPhone" app on your iPad, fill in your AppleID and password at the start up screen, and you should see a list of all your devices and their current location, if connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network. Devices not connected will be shown as "offline". But you can still trap on the icon and hit "erase iPhone" in the right hand window.
If your iPhone is not listed, you did not activate this feature during the setup of the phone and it can't be erased remotely.
If the phone is listed, even as offline, tap on "erase" to send the erase command. The next time your device will be connected to any kind of network, the content will be erased.

  • Does this computer have gps (my daughter's was just stolen), is there a way to remotely disable it?

does this computer have gps (my daughter's was just stolen), is there a way to remotely disable it?

First off, I'm sorry to hear about the theft of your daughter's computer.  The good news is that all Apple computers have their serial number in multiple places (depending on the model) and Apple maintains a list of every one of them.  Do you have the serial number?  If not, you can get it from the retailer you purchased it from.
As far as GPS and disabling it, it is going to depend on several factors but the short answer is probably not.  I mean, Yes, there is a a way to detect location in most modern Mac's through a web browser using Geolocation (W3C API) but there is no onboard GPS; disabling the machine remotely would require you to have 'Back to my Mac' already set up on it from iCloud.  There might also be some third party tools available that I'm not aware of.
Again, I'm really sorry to hear about the stolen computer.  I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you have any other questions.
BTW, what model and year is the computer that was stolen?

  • HT1267 My home was vandalized several times each time my iphones were stolen is there any way that i can locate these phones by serial numbersfor the police or to assist the police.

i have all of the serial numbers to my stolen iphones. i just need to locate these phone to help assist in finding out who vandalized my home. or if the columbus police dept contacted apple if the location of my phone could be given based on the serial number and gps. i did have find my iphone app but i never completely activated the app.

Even in you had Find My iPhone activated it is very easily deactivated and likely any thief does so quickly.  The feature is mostly handy in finding a phone if you're not sure if it is at the office or at home.
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2526 - "... Apple does not have a process to track or flag lost or stolen product..."
Apple - iPhone 4S - Locate your missing iPhone with Find My iPhone - http://www.apple.com/iphone/built-in-apps/find-my-iphone.html
Note that these features require you have the "Find My" activated before you lose the device, the device be turned on and able to connect to a registered wifi connection (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) or data network (iPhone, iPad), and not having been restored by a finder of the device (if it was really stolen then the thief has probably restored it). If you have activated the "Find My" feature, go to https://www.icloud.com or use the Find My iPhone app - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8

  • My iPhone 4 was stolen and I need to get its serial number

So my iPhone 4 was stolen and I need to get the serial number off of it to help find it. I looked online and an article (this one to be exact: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) told me to go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and then select my device and it would tell me the serial number. However, when I got to the devices menu, my iPhone didn't show up, but my dad's did. Any idea on how to get it to show up or an alternate way to get the serial number (I don't have the box or the phone)?

Yours was stolen, it will not show up in iTunes. There is no way to get your serial number unless you registered it with Apple: Your Support Profile for Registered Purchases.

  • My MacPro was stolen.  How can I retrieve the serial number?

My 3.5 yr Macbook Pro was stolen and I didn't record the serial number.  I need it for the police.  Who can I contact at Apple to see if they have my number?  I financed the computer through Apple.
Is there some kind of internal tracking device in the MacPro that can lead me (the police) to finding it?  I did not install any tracking device on it, but didn't know if it came with one already built in- like the Iphones have.
Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
I'm Desperate and am sick that I didn't record it in advance.
    Thanks for your help.
    Sue

If you registered your computer with Apple & setup a support profile, you can login & retrieve your SN there. If you didn't do such, you can try calling AppleCare.
If you didn't setup Find My Mac or similar before your computer was stolen, there is no way to track it. Change all of your passwords, report the loss to the police & your insurance company.
