HT203128 On my iMac (2011, using Yosemite) all music quits

No matter from what source (playlists, iTunes radio, Pandora) the music will quit unexpectedly after 4-5 tunes and return to the login screen.  Why??

Hi P,
Try both ways, with it connected while booting and with it disconnected.
Also open Disk Utility and see if it is recognized there.

A lot of my songs, once put on the iCloud, will not download to my iPod.  They are in my iTunes library, already downloaded, but will not appear in my library on my iPod.  There is no common thread for the origin of the songs--many were ripped from CD's, others purchased in the iTunes store.  Before I started using iCloud, all music in my iTunes library was on my iPod without any issues.

    - Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
    - Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck
If they are still available and listed in your Puchase History then contact iTunes

  • App on my iMac is using up all my bandwidth help, app my iMac is using up all my bandwidth help

    Hi All,
Looking for some help here. Whilst my imac is running it using up all my bandwidth on my connection ( I have a slow 2mbs Adsl connection). I have quit all applications in my dock and have checked on activity monitor, nothing there that i am aware of that needs to be closed. When i run a netstat it shows 7 active sessions but i have no idea what they are, hopefully not a virus. I have only been a OSX for year but have a wealth of experience of diagnosing connection issue due to working for an ISP.
I know it's not my router , my actually sync to the exchange , or the network i am on or any unknown devices on the LAN and can see the connection varying in activity monitor from a few kbs per second up to 200kps(my whole connection)
Anyone that can provide advice how to identify the sessions on this one would be greatly appreciated

You are probably using applications that fetch data over the network.
Google maps, the camera application, safari, app store, itunes app, and several other 3rd party applications do that.
The only way I can think of getting rid of that is by putting false information on
    settings->general->network->cellular data network.
That way you won't be able to use the carriers 3g and edge network.

  • Music from CDs that is on my iPod won't transfer to my iTunes library on a different computer I used to use but all music bought from iTunes will? How do I fix this?

In the past to get music from CDs onto my iTunes library and onto my iPod was all easy and fine, as you would know if you have done such a thing before. I used to use a different laptop for all my music stuff to the desktop I have to use now as the other one is broken. It is an authorised computer on my iTunes, so my issue has got nothing to do with that. When I got this desktop (it is quite an old one, if that makes any difference), i had to download iTunes and put all my music into my library to back it up.
However, all music that I had bought physically that is currently on my iPod (CDs) WON'T transfer into my new library on the desktop, but all music that I had bought digitally (iTunes) WILL transfer.
This has led to about 300 missing songs in my library and means I can't transfer all of my music onto a different device (as I am trying to transfer all my music onto an iPhone 3).
I have tried countless things. All of that "File > Devices > Transfer purchases" stuff WILL. NOT. WORK. I tried copying the music into a file on the desktop and then adding said file into the library, but it won't let me paste any music.
If someone were to help me in transferring the music I so dearly love then I would be eternally grateful.
    Thank you

Restore from your most current backup.

  • IMac crashing using yosemite and tom tom device

When i disconnect my Tom Tom Go 5000 device by either switching it off or pulling the USB plug out the iMac crashes. The Tom Tom device connects using the MyDrive web application so the Tom Tom connects via the Net through the USB hub so there is no way to eject the device other than switching off. This all used to work ok but since updating to Yosemite it now crashes the Mac each time i disconnect.  Does anyone else have this problem.

    Hi, I got the fix for the problem through discussion on the Tom Tom support site. The fix that worked for me (and others) is you need to repair permissions on your Mac os hard drive. If your not sure how to do this;
launch disk utility from the utilities folder in applications on Mac.
click on the HD icon and select Repair Disk Permissions. This will probably find a few things that need repairing but that apparently is standard.
Once you've done the repair you will need to reboot Mac then you should be able to plug and unplug Tom Tom without Mac crashing.

  • Distnoted process consumes +300% cpu on my macbook pro (early 2011) using Yosemite

My fans keep ramping up on my macbook pro. I looked at processes using activity monitor, and noted that a process called distnoted was consuming +300% of the cpu. I've only been getting this problem on Yosemite, and didn't see any of this with the older OS X products. Is this something others are seeing, and more importantly whats the fix. Just searching around looks like this is a messaging function in kernal?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I have Elements 13 (I have the hard copy) installed on my iMac using Yosemite. I do all my iPhoto work on an external drive where I have copied my iPhoto Library, can I also install Elements 13 on my external harddrive or drag Elements 13 over from my iMa

I have Elements 13 (I have the hard copy) installed on my iMac using Yosemite. I do all my iPhoto work on an external drive where I have copied my iPhoto Library, can I also install Elements 13 on my external harddrive or drag Elements 13 over from my iMac so that I can do work with Elements 13 via the exteranl hard drive? Thanks tb

Yes you can store images on an external hard dive and have them referenced in Organizer. It’s best to export copies to separate folders/subfolders and that will ensure iPhoto does not get corrupted.
Alternatively you could continue to use iPhoto with the Elements Editor set up in the iPhoto prefs as your external editing app. Then there is no need to use Organizer and no need to duplicate your images.
You can then call up photos directly from iPhoto as normal with the additional option e.g.
Double-click on a thumbnail to edit in iPhoto editor.
Control (right) - click on a thumbnail to edit in the elements app.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

  • Just downloaded Yosemite to my iMac (was using latest version of Maverick) and all I get is white screen.

I just attempted to download and install Yosemite OS to my iMac (was using Maverick v. 10.9.5)
After the install and restart, the computer freezes at a white screen and will proceed no further with finalizing the installation.

Appears that you have a hosed installation. Boot into recovery mode and reinstall the OS. Once back up and running, check to see which OS was installed. If Mavericks, then try another Yosemite installation. Hopefully, you saved a copy of that installer outside of /Applications; otherwise, you'll have to waste time, electricity, and bandwidth downloading the ill-designed installer app which blows itself away as part of its installation process.

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

  • What is the advantage of using Yosemite on my iMac over 10.9.5

What is the advantage of using Yosemite over Lion on my iMac?  Is it any faster, slower or what?

Before upgrading to a new operating system, here are a couple considerations:
    1.  If you are having problems with your current system, full version upgrades
will make them worse.  Fix all issues before making the upgrade.
    2.  Make sure that any third party hardware is compatible with the new operating
system, i.e. drivers available to support the OS.
    3.  The hidden cost item of needing to upgrade apps to work on the new OS.
If your any of your favorite or mission critical applications are not compatible,
expect the possibility of needing to purchase upgrades of those apps so that
they will work on the new OS.
    4.  If you rely on your computer for your livelihood,  be absolutely sure that you
have a backup strategy and plan to quickly recover should there be any issues.
There has been many a complaint on this forum that new OS upgrades have
have ruined their business and had no recovery strategy in place.  Besides,
anyone relying on a computer for their livelihood is REQUIRED to have such
a strategy in place regardless of OS upgrades as anything can happen at
         any time.
    5.  If everything is working fine and dandy for you currently, you need to ask if
any of the new features of an OS of any use to you.  If not, then perhaps
a "don't fix it if it ain't broke" philosophy is what you should follow.

  • I have a new IMAC 5k running Yosemite and when I log in I am asked a whole series of questions as to what keychain can access. How can I authorise all of these to be available upon login? Items concerned are such as "Talagent", "Messages agent" etc

I have a new IMAC 5k running Yosemite and when I log in I am asked a whole series of questions as to what keychain can access. How can I authorise all of these to be available upon login? Items concerned are such as "Talagent", "Messages agent" etc

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ First Aid
There are four checkboxes in the window that opens. Check all of them. if they're not already checked. Close the window.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.
If you use iCloud Keychain, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device.

  • Will time capsule support Airportextreme 802.11ac and an external hard drive on my iMac (late 2011) with Yosemite?

I want to set up a new Airport extreme 802.11ac with an external drive as a wireless back up for time capsule. I have an iMac (late 2011) running Yosemite. Will this work, and if so, what are the recommended external hard drives that work the best.
The rationale for not buying a time capsule is that I have had 2 hard drive failures and replacements on both my iMacs and I am afraid if the time capsule drive fails, it will be yet another apple hard drive that has failed on me. I currently back up on G drive external drives.

Apple does not make hard drives. They may be using the same drive that's in your G-Drives.
You can backup to an external drive connected to the newest AEBS via USB.
