HT204452 Calendar Date Issues

I really don't know what's happened to OS X --other than changes to make the system complicatedly 'user friendly' and at times impossible to use, (literally). Apple's fully overhauled the system and made major changes to break functional applications, including Finder.
Anyway, my issue is with one of their apps which hasn't been the same since SL, although I'm pretty sure SL was light-on for features too.
Does anyone know how to fix the Calendar? Going into System Preferences to start a week on a Monday in Mavericks shifts the weeks to start on a Monday. Yay! What it should do. Although, it doesn't shift the date numbers, (one per square in the upper right corner when viewed in month view); it forgets to shift the day names -- which are fixed to the title bar at the top of the page.
I know enough to submit a bug report, but honestly I wondered how anyone could overlook such an obvious feature that without this problem (confirmed) in releases prior to Lion.
I for one hate the Calendar now among many apps on Mac OS X, and if I wasn't so invested in the ecosystem, their down-grades with each subsequent release would have converted me over already. It's pretty disappointing when I go back to my old iMac and notice how much more I prefer Leopard and the way Apple was.

I just wanted to add that I did some more testing
it looks like this is the function that is slower.
Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));
maybe jre1.3 only keeps around 1 instance of the utc timezone, and jre1.4 is create a new instance each time getTimeZone("UTC") is called.

• Calendar date issue

Hi,
I have implemented the Portal Calendar, a form that allows a user to add or edit events for the calendar, and a link that links to the events form (mentioned above). My issue is when I add this link into the "Empty Date Link" section and click on the pencil icon and set the event date equal to "TODAY" column name, when I go to the calendar it links to the following url:
http://<host_name>:<port>/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwa_app_module.link?p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=1065563187&p_arg_names=_sessionid&p_arg_values=&p_arg_names=EVENT_DATE&p_arg_values=14-OCT-04&p_arg_names=_event_date_cond&p_arg_values=%3D
Which brings back the form but does not default the event_date.
(<host_name>:<port> are set appropriately) The issue is with the URL adding the "&p_arg_names=_event_date_cond&p_arg_values=%3D" to the end. If I remove this and directly put in the browser it works fine and defaults the event_date. Even if I could just remove the "%3D" it works fine. Has anyone succesfully linked between the Calendar and the form so that the event date defaults (in insert mode)????

Erica

Hi,
Does this issue occur when viewing the user's calendar on OWA? It helps to determine if this issue is on the client or on the server.

This has worked fine with MobileMe with only a couple of minor glitches in the past.
Any experience doing this the "right" way?

• Issues with Modification of Calendar dates when Syncing

I recently had my internal HD on my MacBook crash and needed to replace it. Thankfully I had been regularly (fairly regularly) backing up my computer with Time Machine so I didn't lose much info. Just little things.
I have replaced it and brought back online all my info from my external and for the most part it's smooth sailing but one very odd and kind of irritating issue has popped up and I'm not sure how to deal with it.
I have attempted to sync my iPhone with iTunes a couple times now. Everything syncs just fine. Except... my Calendar.
And overall the calendar should be able to sync well, but in addition to the page that pops up notifying me it will be adding some dates, and deleting others, etc. (I have it set to ask for my approval before changing a lot of stuff on the calendar). iTunes also, for some reason, keeps wanting to Modify 583 dates in the calendar. Old entries, as far as I can tell, all from 2009/2010. It wants to Modify them from having No "Original Date" [On the "Before" Screen it shows <original date: none>] and wants it to now be recorded with an "Original Date" of (Exactly) 12/31/00 at 4pm, or 01/01/01 at 4am. I'm not even really sure the "original date" means... And while I rarely go back to look at old dates in my calendar. I leave them there for a reason reason.. and don't want them to all be modified just so I can add/delete other events in the current calendar.
So... Has anyone
a) ever heard of this happening?
b) does anyone know how to make it stop?
OR c) does anyone know how I could make a distinction and choose to say yes to changes that I want to have happen without (i.e. adding dates to the calendar I have added/deleted on the iPhone, and not allowing the modification changes to occur that I don't want to have happen?
Thanks in advance! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

So, after posting this question, the "More Like This" section actually brought up links to two different threads that seemed to have helped.
This thread, in case anyone finds this thread looking for the answer to the same problem:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15095318#15095318
But, pretty much the answer was. Turn iCal syncing off in iTunes. Wipe the calendar data from your phone. Turn syncing back on. And the issues go away.
A little annoying since the add and delete options I did want to be able to sync. But I just went through them and entered them manually. Seemed like that would waste less time than if I kept searching for a way to only sync certain things and not others, especially since it's entirely possible there is not a way to do that.
Sorry for the new thread on an "already discussed" topic. I swear I searched first, but didn't find the two other threads on the topic until after posting! oops!

Resolved items 1 & 2 by rebooting the phone. I am happy that it resolved, but it shouldn't have happened n the first place.

• How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade?

Dear wise & wondeful people:
How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade? Half of my contacts, notes, ect. were on my iCloud so have happily moved to my new iPhone but the rest are completely resistant. For example, on my iCloud I have 14 missing contacts starting with the letter A alone, however they are happily viewable on my old iPhone 4S and won't budge over into the iCloud.
There are also 3 notes missing yet still acessible on my onld iPhone 4S, the list goes on.
Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much.

• ITunes Calendar data doesn't match Outlook's. How can I fix?

I have a new iPhone and just recently discovered that the Calendar is not updating,
probably since the first time I synced. And even then it was using old calendar data which
doesn't currently show up in Outlook. (Contacts sync perfectly.) Applecare took me
through their 1st and 2nd-level support troubleshooting and said they couldn't do anything more.
They suggested possible corruption of outlook.pst.
One glaring example: I used to have 3 calendars in Outlook: "Bridge", "Calendar" and
"Others". I recently deleted all but the one called Calendar, but all 3 still show up in
iTunes, even though I've uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes twice. Only "Calendar" shows up on
the iPhone, but it has old data. I think the data it's displaying has not been refreshed
since 9/23/11, when I moved the outlook.pst file to a location in My Documents for easier
backup, but that doesn't really make sense since the Contacts update just fine. (I've had
an iPad for about a year, and it's behaving the same as the iPhone now; the Calendar used
to update properly.) Another possible clue: the iPhone shows two instances of one
particular recurring appointment. I don't recall ever having two instances of it in
Outlook and wonder if that could be the problem. I removed it altogether from Outlook and
that didn't help.
I've done extensive testing with a new Windows user account and Outlook, and the calendar
syncing seems to work fine. I've Googled "iPhone calendar won't update" and similar and
haven't found anything that works for my situation.
I'm running Office 2003 on Windows XP. I do NOT use Outlook for mail.

I was having the same problems after downloading 10.4.1 IStore would only download half way then nothing attempted reinstall no goood checked the Diagnostics with IPad connected, indicated no errors. more than a few hours browsing possible solutions. Found one stating 'Remove all Itunes connected software, i.e. Bonjour, ITunes, Safari etc from PC via the Uninstall Safely Feature and ReInstall. Hey Presto it worked now no issues.
Good Luck. I am using Windows 7.
That's my problem exactly, but I can't find the: ''Uninstall Safely Feature and ReInstall''. Where is that??
Thank You

• Iphone 4s calendar alert issue

I tend to put 2 alerts on my calendar events, one for 1 day before and the second one for 1 hour before (or some other on the day of event). I have noticed that when I put in the first alert for 1 day before and then enter the second alert for 1 hour before and click done they have somehow been reversed, the first alert is now 1 hour before and the second alert is 1 day before. I have to click them again and change them to the proper order, this usually take about 3 tries to get them to stay as I want them. I can them save the event and all is good. I was at the Apple store and the staff duplicated this issue so I know I'm not the only one experiencing this nuissance. Has anyone else come across this? I do hope the upcoming update will fix it.

Update since Genius visit:
1) Apple is working on an update
2) There is no awareness at Apple of this calendar alert issue as a bug, hence it is not being addressed/worked on
3) Solutions offered by Genius have not resolved this issue.
Solutions offered by Genius, in order of which to try first:
1) Delete calendar data from iPhone: Settings>iCloud>Calendars OFF and then restore data from iCloud: Calendars ON
2) Reset iPhone settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
3) Restore to factory settings: Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings, then restore data from iCloud and in-app backups.
4) Use another calendar app (seriously)
Of course, if the bug is actually part of the iOS software (could it be?) then no amount of erasing and restoring data will fix the issue. I completed the first two options with no change, and am not willing to do the third option because I am not interested in going through the process of backing up, then restoring all my third-party apps.
My solution: raise awareness of this issue with Apple, so that it can be worked on and fixed. I have reported it as a bug through Apple's feedback module: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and I encourage-- no, ask-- you to do the same, if you are experiencing this issue. I provided a link to this forum topic to show the variety and detail of problems.
Are you sick of missing alerts, fiddling endlessly, coming up with workarounds, paying for unreliable software, and not being responded to? I am. It's time to rally!

• IPod Nano 3rd Gen. Problems [Rebooting, Won't Sync Contact/Calendar Data]

I have noticed that my iPod nano will reboot itself after it has been syncing/charging. It reboots when I go to the last playlist that was playing before I began to sync/charge it. Also, it would randomly reboots when I am selection a playlist.
Then, it won't sync my contact/calendar data if it nearly full. But I can sync them when it is nearly empty.
What is causing the problem and how can I fix it?

if you have done restores then possibly it is a firmware issue... i would take it to the apple store if you can to get it looked at...

• Itunes/Outlook Calendar Syncing Issue - UTF-8 Flavor

I have had the usual and much discussed issue of outlook calendar does not sync with iTunes. The recommendations have been to remove iTunes and re-install, even blow away all the configuration files as well, and it even worked for me once. But not this time.
I was running Windows XP, and all of a sudden the Outlook 2007 calendar just stopped syncing. I upgraded from XP to 8.1, and that was not fun, but inevitable, and still didn’t correct the problem. Now, if you never upgraded from XP to 8.1 – you can’t – at least it is not a direct flight. First, you have to upgrade from XP to 8.0, then from 8.0 to 8.1, and there is no upgrade in place from XP to 8.0. So what does an upgrade in place mean? Your applications and profiles are not carried over. Just your data (if you ask nicely) is carried over – but all applications have to be re-installed from scratch, and reactivated if there was license activation.
So, forget about re-install of iTunes, I changed OS, reinstalled iTunes and Office 2007 from scratch. And still had the syncing problem. So, I wasn’t getting off easy.
In searching, I found some debugging stuff which I tried, as follows to turn on logging:
So, I ran the following:
cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
defaults write com.apple.Outlook.client.exe ShouldLog YES
defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogEverything YES
defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogPersonalInfo YES
And this turned on a lot of tracing. The tracing helped me understand what was going on under the covers, But I am not sure I was getting enough of the information that I needed to really zero in on the bad record.
Now, I will pause and provide some observation of my specific Sync.
An iTunes Sync on a Windows machine when using Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer is selected on the INFO tab of the page for the device.
Selections include Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks and Notes.
One of the programs involved with Outlook Synchronization is: com.apple.Outlook.client.exe
The program is called when Outlook data needs to be accessed, and is used for contacts, calendar and notes when those items are paired between the iDevice and Outlook. Bookmarks are usually paired with the browser, for example IE.
During the sync operation, each of these are sync’d separately, that is why if you follow the sync actions, iTunes will reflecting what is being synced at the moment, for example “syncing contacts”.
When syncing the calendar, and iTunes is running a slow sync, it reads the Outlook calendar using the com.apple.Outlook.client.exe and does processing of the recursion and time zone information.
For example, for recurrence:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Setting recurrence data <04300430 0d200200 000000ae 06000c00 00000000 00000400 00002120 0000e703 00000000 00000000 00000000 0000a0e7 980cc016 d10c0630 00000830 00000000 0000a005 00000000 00000000 00000000>
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] 0 recurrence exceptions
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Reading the Extended Exception Info (i.e. Unicode data)
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Done making compatible recurrence
For example, for timezone:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:43 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Could not create a time zone from outlook name, tried using name (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Then the calendar entries are pushed, for example:
ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829304082700 =     {
"all
day" = 1;
calendar
= (
ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829382800000
"com.apple.outlook.freebusy" = Free;
"com.apple.syncservices.RecordEntityName" = "com.apple.calendars.Event";
"end date" = "2020-05-11 12:00:00 +0000";
location = "United States";
"start date" = "2020-05-10 12:00:00 +0000";
summary = "Mother's Day";
So, my SYNC fails, and I crash and burn with:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:22 2014] [_ISDVLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] SyncServices assertion failure (nil != strUTF8) in [(null) (null)], SDLogging.m:641 could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:23 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] objcMain caught an exception:
name
NSInternalInconsistencyException
reason : [(null)
(null)]: could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
user info : (null)
call stack : (
Now I’m back. So, during the extract and push of the outlook calendar entries, iTunes is building formatted strings. Now, Unicode is usually 16 bit (2 characters) Unicode, sometimes called double byte code. UTF-8 is single byte, so realize you can’t squeeze 16 bits into a 8 bit byte. However, you could if the Unicode string only contained characters that were valid for the UTF-8 character set. My interpretation of the error message above was that somewhere a formatted character string contained a “non-UTF-8” character and raised the assertion. Now, my issue with the excessive detailing from the logs was that – at least with the logging parameters I had turned on – I couldn’t figure out which calendar entry caused the exception to be thrown.
First instinct was that the last calendar entry in the trace was the culprit, so I deleted that calendar entry, ran again, the sync went up to the previous entry, and threw the exception. This gives me two theories: Either the sync was processing the next entry – which wasn’t printed in the trace yet – and failed, or the sync was going back to previous records – like reviewing the buffer. In either case, the trace wasn’t helping and it was all theories.
Now what? What has everyone been saying? Issues with recurrence. And in the trace, as you see above as an example, “0 recurrence exceptions”, “reading the extended exception info (i.e. Unicode data)”.
Now, I have no clue what that means. My initial guess was that recurrence exceptions (I had non-zeros on some) was an error. But further research I realized what it could mean was that these were situations where there were recurrence exceptions. What is a recurrence exception? Suppose I want to schedule a meeting on the 4th day of the month, for every month of the year. Well, except maybe July 4th, because it is a holiday and the office is closed. I would send the meeting invite, and then a cancellation for the July 4th. (I hear there is no simple way to do this). I now have an exception because I broke the recurrence chain. Other forms of exceptions is if I keep changing the location, or the body of the invite – e.g. every month I update the agenda, but only for one recurrence, not the entire series.
So, keep in mind, that if the issue is conversion to a UTF-8 character, and it is failing, then uninstall/reinstall of anything is not going to help if the real issue at hand is the data in Outlook and is not a coding or configuration issue. Now, sometimes it is an issue, but you need to see why the syncserver tasks are failing, and may fail due to other reasons including other data issues.
So, what did I do? Well IO have 15K calendar entries, which, was taking an hour or two to slow sync (I call it a slow dance) and I was, spending days (maybe a couple of weeks) trying to fix this – and frustration was on the high end.
I removed some of my older recurrences, and changed others from never expire to like 25 maximum occurrences. No idea which one worked, or even if it was a coincidence. However, the UTF-8 error went away, and then I moved to the next issue.
Now, before we get there, with outlook 2007 finding recurrences is not difficult. Go into the calendar, and select appointment or list view (Outlook 2013 list view works ok). You can then sort on the recurrence column and see which (if any) items gave a recurrence pattern. Now maybe someone can figure out specific BAD calendar items that are throwing the exception to give us a better idea of what to look for and then report it so we can do further research.
Now, once we can get the issue out of the way, stop iTunes from throwing an exception, we are not 100% done yet. By this time what is in Outlook and on the iDevice is out of sync. We need to get that message to popup asking us if we want to merge the data between the iDevice and Outlook. This can be important if you don’t want to lose data. My issue is that with iTunes 11.2.2 for some reason won’t do it, i.e. when I select “reset sync history” it doesn’t work. At that point I was forced to rename my iTunesprefs, the syncserver folder, and a few other folders. In this case, for Windows 7 and later, the folders in “Apple Computer” of both the local and roaming paths, and I had to cancel running tasks that had those folders open. One way or another, you want the iTunes message asking if you want to merge the folders.
What can you do to help?
Report success or failures using the information above
Report if you are getting the same UTF-8 message, or if you are seeing other exceptions
Report specific cases of calendar entries that you find that you have isolated to be throwing an exception
Report any other logging/tracing parameters that you may find. It looks like you can turn on “ShouldLog” using the defaults.exe command for other tasks that iTunes runs.
This syncing issue has been going on for years, under different iTunes versions, there has to be something going on and an easier way to troubleshoot this problem. I wish I had the time, but right now I fixed the problem I had and was able to resync my Outlook with my two iPads and iPhone.
The only issue I have left at the moment is the message “the ipad xxx cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54). – despite this error message, I am syncing, but the message is distracting and annoying.

Yes - both have time zone support and are set to London/GMT
The most recent of these aberrations was not even crossing a DST change - just a simple recurring event (which I've manually changed to single events by copy/paste).
I just tried a new one which goes back 1 hr 27 Oct - when UK clocks go back. As it's a dummy apt I'll leave it and see if if goes back to the correct time on 27 Oct! In the meantime, I can't afford for my appts to get screwed up so will continue to do them manually!
Thanks for your input.

• Error with calendar date being extracted : PSA - ODS - cubes correction

Hello to all,
I have an issue with incorrect calendar date being captured by BW.
Here is the analysis:
We have red request into the invoice cubes because of incorrect calendar date. It has been found that the process is done via PSA -> ODS -> Cubes
How will I do the correction? Kindly specify on whether or not to change the status of the red QM status in the cubes. Also with the data mart status of ODS and the request of ODS? What status(has to be changed)? what request has to be deleted? Thanks.

Hi,
What I did:
changed QM status to green of the Info Cubes
deleted the green status of requests in the Info Cubes
deleted the Data Mart status of ODS
deleted the request of ODS
edited manually the data into the PSA
started the update immediately
Then....
I will wait if the request will be updated in ODS?
Then
I will check if the delta job from ODS to cube will proceed right?
Please advise. Thanks.

• Calendar date variable problem in queries

Hi-We upgraded to NW2004s from BW 3.1 We have an issue with queries when we try to change the value of any variable that is a calendar date such as the Current Calendar Day. Example: when running a query, the Select Values for Variants screen displays today's date as the default for Current Calendar Day in the format 09/29/06. To change the date to another value, I get the screen displaying a calendar, if I pick 09/28/06, the display comes back as 28.09.2006 & then I can't proceed any further as I get an error "please enter value in permitted format for variable current calendar date"
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
thanks

Hi
There may be some other reason for it, coz Day light savings starts in last week of March, not in May.
And day light savings ends in Last week of October

• Lync 2013 Clients prompting repeatedly for credentials for calendar data from outlook

Our Exchange server had crashed recently (nothing major) and a reboot of the CAS server resolved the issues. However since then all our domain computers with Lync 2013 clients are prompting for credentials for calendar data from outlook. We would but in
our domain credentials but it still asks. It would sometime ask once a day or sometimes repeatedly throughout the day.
I have look on the forums and tried fixes that included: editing IIS Autodiscover and ESW to use NTLM first , rebuilt lyncs cache in app data etc and none seems to resolve the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
Note: Our Lync 2013 environment is internal only. Only users on domain computers can access the service. We do use a proxy server here for internet but I do not believe Lync is going through the proxy since its internal to our network only. This is NOT happing

• CoreServicesUIAgent would like to access your calendar data

Hi all,
three days ago, I received a strange Mavericks pop-up: "CoreServicesUIAgent would like to access your calendar data".
Then I went to the Security PrefPane, and saw CoreServicesUIAgent clicked.
Strange, so I decided to unclick, although I checked within the CoreServices folder that is was still an App by Apple.
Apparently no change at all.
However, everytime I change an event in iCal on a googlemail calendar account, it will not appear in iCal anymore.
Through Google Calendar webview, I can still see it, but not in iCal anymore.
And I can still see it on my iPhone.
So I disabled the calendar in iCal through the Internet Accounts settings, rebooted, clicked back on "CoreServiceUIAgent" in the Security PrefPane, rebooted, enabled the calendar back in iCal.
No change.
Some questions now:
- where could I find the preference file associated to Security (in order to check whether the "CoreServicesUIAgent" listed in the PrefPane is indeed refering to the Apple App inside the CoreServices folder)?
- why is CoreServiceUIAgent trying to get access to my calendar?
- why did it suddenly appear and not before?
- why is iCal such a pain now with Google Calendars?
Any help would be much appreciated ...

I have been havig trouble with iCal repeatedly prompting me to add a new event on its own. Recently to try and fix this I deleted my calendars, preferences and caches. I then picked up my calendars from iCloud. Within about an hour of running iCal again, I get this prompt to allow CoreServicesUIAgent.app access to my calendar. I said yes and almost immediately I get one of these unwanted add new event dialogs again. Ah hah I think.
I have been unable to find out what CoreServicesUIAgent.app does and why it needs access to my calendar, but it does seem to be the source of my unwanted automatic adding of new events issue. I went into the Security and Privacy Setting and disabled CoreServicesUIAgent.app access to my calendar. I am now waiting to see if I get any more of those unwanted adding new event prompts. If I can't detect any loss of functionality, I will just not give CoreServicesUIAgent.app access to my calendar.

• Error processing calendar data (210) after installing Sec Update 2010-1

When we were first setting up the web calendar, we had some trouble with 210 errors because the directory we were storing the calendar data in didn't have the right permissions. We reverted the data store to the default location Library/CalendarServer/Documents, with the Documents folder having the _calendar user as owner, with read & write access, the _calendar group having read only access, and everyone having no access.
This hasn't changed.
However, after installing the Sec Update 2010-1 last night, we're getting 210 errors again. Any ideas?

Looks like it's a DNS issue for me
