followed these wonderful instructions but no matter what I do I do NOT get the "none" option!!!

I highly recommend not advising people to create new Apple IDs. This is pretty much NEVER a valid troubleshooting step and will cause much more harm than good.
For an EXISTING Apple ID, you should be able to edit your iTunes Payment Type to be "None" as long as you do not have an unpaid order on your account. Please note that if your Apple ID already has already been created for Apple Online Store, iCloud, etc. before you use it with iTunes, it is necessary to add some type of payment type or redemption code during the initial use of the account with iTunes. HOWEVER, if you don't want a credit card on file, you can immediately edit the payment information to change the Payment Type to "None" after the initial setup.

If you have an unpaid order, you must first provide a valid payment type to take care of that unpaid balance, and then you'll have the option for "None."

Hi All
To set up an ID for apple you have to provide means of payment even if you don't wish to buy anything, hence why there is no option for 'none'. I wonder why this option is not available any more?

Welcome to the Apple community.
Open iTunes and navigate to the app store. Select a free app to download. A simple way to do this is to scroll down to the top free apps box on the right hand side, hover your mouse over the first item and click on the free button that appears when you hover over it.
A pop up will open asking you to sign in with your Apple ID click "create new account", click continue to create your account. Check the box to accept the store terms and conditions and click continue.
Enter your email address, password, security question, and date of birth, click continue. Now, you will be asked to provide a payment method. Note now that the last option says "none".

Is there any way i can add my payment information in profile without credit card information. The option "none" is not appearing for me

I am unable to update my payment information in my profile without credit card information. I do not see "None" option below Visa, Master, Amex & Discover.

You would have to purchase a 3rd party program ( not supported by Apple).
The ipod is not a storage/backup device.
Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.

As I understand it you can only follow the steps that allow you to create an account without a credit/debit card if you do them in exactly as described as you create a new AppleID. If you have already created the AppleID that you want to use, and iTunes is requesting a payment card, then you need to attach a credit/debit card to the account in order to prove that you are resident in the country whose store you are trying to use. Once that has been established you can then set the payment method to None.

The preferences option is not showing in the left pane

When I log into ERPI through workspace, in the Tasks, the preference options are not showing, so I am not able to able to do system or application settings.

I have the same problem and am not about to pay $79 for a program that "might" work.I have been using Outlook 2011 for Mac with no issues until Apple updated its OS to Maverick. Since then, I have had multiple problems. After finding out that I'm not alone, I decided to try Thunderbird when moving to Apple Mail proved so tedious. Too bad there's not a warning on TB's Mac download page that Outlook 2011 files can't be migrated!

1. Go to App Store and select a free app
2. Tap INSTALL APP
3. Create New Apple ID
4. Confirm Your Country
5. Agree with Terms and Conditions
6. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (must be a valid email address)
7. Create and answer your secret question e.g. What is the name of my dog?
8. Select NONE for Payment Method (very important)
9. Fill in Billing Address i.e. your address
10. Submit application for new Apple ID
11. Wait for verification email
12. When email arrive, verify your account
13. Start downloading your free apps

You need to follow, exactly, the instructions on the HT2534 page that you posted from when creating an account - if you don't use those instructions then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item (after entering your card's details you should then be able to remove them).
I've just tried the instructions and been able to create a new account with 'none' as the payment option, verified the account, and downloaded a free app.

I wish to delete my visa vanilla gift card info because it no longer has any value but when I go to the edit billing info page the none option to break the connection is not given and it tells me I am useing a different device and need to conferm the security code on the gift card but when i do it says the code is not valid when i know it is because i'm looking at it on the card. . WHAT DO I DO TO TAKE THE DEAD GIFT CARD OFF?!?!
