The music should still be in her iTunes Library - the one she uses to put music on the Shuffle. Simply connect the new iPod to that iTunes library, make the choices she wants for syncing the music to the iPod (which I guess, may now include putting all her music onto the iPod, since it has more storage capacity) and press Sync.
Future Syncs with that Library will cause any changes of the Library to be copied to the iPod. Note that music is (or should be) copied to the iPod, not moved. There are two reasons for having the music in the Library:
makes it easier to put the music onto a newer iPod, such as now;
if or when the iPod needs a Restore, which will delete everything from the iPod, you will need to copy "the Library" back onto the same iPod.

I am preparing to upgrade to Mavericks. I want to put a bootable copy of Mountain Lion on an external hard drive so that I may run apps that aren't yet compatible with Mavericks. How do I do this?

You will need an external HD and either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Both will create bootable clones of your of your system. One is not "better" than the other, to be honest it's simple user preference in the UI. Once you have created your clone boot from it to test and once you have validated it works then you can download Mavericks and begin using it. You can Google for each app and download them, each cost approximately $40-$60.
In the event you want to go back to ML the clone will provide that freedom. Or if you simply need to use ML to get to Apps that only run on that version of OS X then you can. I would recommend getting an EHD that has the fastest connection your computer has output for. For example if your machine has a Thunderbolt connection, get a EHD that supports Thunderbolt.

I have not updated this Ipod since I purchased several computers ago. How do I put the music from this Ipod into my library. It is music from CDs I own. Restore them to the new computer using the bakcup of the old one. If you don't have a backup of the old computer, you can re-download music purchased from the iTunes store. If they were imported from CD's, etc. You will either have to re-rip them or purchase third party software to extract them from the phone. The iPhone is not a backup or data transfer device.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

New ipod classic , how do i get movies on it

Hi there, i recently got myself a new 80gb classic and i'm trying to get movies onto it but itunes only recognises about 3 of my movies ( they are all paid for and legit) it says these are in the wrong format as well. Does anyone know any way i could convert them to the required mpeg4 format or recommend a good free converting program.

Should have read the terms and conditions properly, at the moment i'm looking at movies already on my hard drive , i got a free digital download of i am legend when i purchased the special edition dvd so thats already legal and paid for and the other movies are personal ones off my camcorder (handy for showing those holiday videos to relatives) i have absolutely zero experience in doing stuff like this so any help you could throw my way would be great.

to answer the question what I believe is this-
OTA updates the specific or part(s) of firmware that has been upgraded hence the smaller size and likely available before the full version on NSU for your product code
NSU updates or reinstalls the entire firmware based on product code so NSU updating involves many regional variabilities of the product code
pavillion_alex I agree completely why would someone be "happy" to pay for something (OTA) they are more likely to get for free (via PC) I have no idea

In iTunes sign out of your daughters Apple ID and sign in with your own.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.
