The thread you linked me to, Eric, shows the guy 'Niganit' with the eXACT SAME PROBLEM as me! He seems to have found out the problem but I dont see his resolve.
I just dont have the option to install windows 7 in any other form that a cd

If I use Boot camp to install windows do I need a windows disc, will i lose all my data, etc. If so how to I save them. Can I switch back to osx after I install windows. I Mini with an i7 processor. I would like to use Boot Camp to install windows based CAD software on my MAC. Would it be better to use a plugin external hard drive to load my software on and if so what hard drive would you recommend?
Thank you for your quick response. I can then use a ZIP drive for data storage. I want to keep as much of my hard drive free of data as possible.

Using Boot Camp to install Windows XP: problems with display going blank
I have a new Mac mini (early 2009) connected to an older NEC MultiSync LCD (VGA only) display through a KVM.
I initially used the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to make the display connection.
All worked fine with Mac OS X, but when I attempted to use Boot Camp to install Windows XP (Home), the display would go blank with the display saying "no signal" at some point during the install and I couldn't get the mini's display back without power cycling the mini. Numerous attempts at removing the Boot Camp partition, re-partitioning, and retrying resulted in nothing but frustration. I typically had to force the mini to boot from the OS X install DVD or Mac partition to make the mini usable again.
I have used my LCD display and KVM combination with a variety of computers running a variety of operating systems, including older Mac minis running both Mac OS X and XP, with no problems. And I intend to keep using it, so I wasn't going to assume the problem was there!
After noting that Apple had already released a [firmware update|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate] for this adapter to address "[possible intermittent flickering and compatibility issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3492]", I double checked that it was up to date--and it was. But, it made me suspicious that this adapter might have some more problems and be the source of the troubles I was experiencing.
So, I got an Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and tried that.
No more display problems! Everything works fine with Mac OS X. Windows XP installed without so much as a flicker, and it works smoothly with my setup.
I'm curious if I'm the only one who was affected by this problem?Restart your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option-key until you get to the Boot Selection Screen.
Choose to boot OSX.
Use the BootCamp Assistant to remove the Windows partition.
Go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and rest the default to be your OSX volume.
Reboot your Mac again.
Follow the instructions from here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173 and use the BootCamp Assistant again to install Windows 7

I guess the only simple alternative to installing Windows on your Mac's internal drive is to buy another Mac, and install it on there instead I mean, you could have a Mac Mini or a MacBook, and have that running Windows under Boot Camp. -

Boot Camp is everything you need to run a Windows application.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows in a second volume, so you can start up there and run all your Windows apps without needing any Mac OS X app. It's true that OS X apps like Parallels or VMware Fusion allow you to use your Boot Camp partition in Mac OS X, but it looks like you don't want that -

The Late 2012 Mac mini only supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so you can't install Windows XP with Boot Camp.
If you need Windows XP, download an application like Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, create a virtual machine and install Windows XP there. You shouldn't have any RAM problem with Windows XP.
OS X can copy to FAT and exFAT drives, so you can format your external drive in "MS-DOS (FAT)". First, open Finder, choose your external drive in the sidebar and copy all the files to the desktop. So yeah, my internal optical drive is dead and i am not paying for a repair nor an external drive.
Boot camp keeps prompting me to install a windows 7, but tough luck for me doing that. I found a tutorial online that suggests modifying the info.plist file of Boot Camp Assisant like so:
once all of the above is complete you can edit the 'info.plist' file in TextEdit (or another editor, like Xcode if you prefer). what you want to do is add a string to let 'Boot Camp Assistant' recognize your machine like it would a Macbook Air. use the 'System Profiler' Hardware Overview to identify your "Model Identifier" (i.e. mine is: MacBookPro5,2). using this, you can write your model into the file using a line like:

this string should be placed in the array section found at the very end of 'info.plist'. it is recommended to add it to the end or beginning of the array ..for me it needed to be at the beginning.

Is it best to use Boot Camp or Native Windows 7 on a 2010 Mac Pro with Lion?
I'm wondering if there is a performance handicap when you use Boot Camp vs. the Windows 7 DVD to install directly on the hard drive? Also, can you minimize the Lion partition so it doesn't take up much of the drive? I have 4 internals and 2 eSATA externals and want to set up a dual use machine the best way possible. Windows 7 will be 64-bit. I already have XP virtuals running, so I want to have a 64 bit Windows install that uses my new mother ships resources to the fullest.

MichaelYou don't need Lion, and I would recommend treading very cautiously with even testing it out, on its own drive also.
Mac Pro comes closest to a native PC tower as any.
It is not and does not need laptop feature and functions. But any computer motherboard needs device drivers for chipsets, just not as much.

BCA is one of the few ways to manage a Windows MBR, but not the only. But for most users spltting their one and only boot drive to be dual boot.
You do not need Mac OS on the drive along with Windows.
As for following directions, that usually helps, but not always in all cases.
Apple's drivers in any event don't get installed until after Windows is up and running, and the more (Apple) you add, like Safari 5.1 ( I would avoid 5.1 like the plague or at least look at Safari on Windows forum ) as it is buggy, and then all the other extras do slow things down and clog the wheels (Bonjour is talkative), and I disable and uninstall or just don't install what you don't need - especially where there is no custom install option.
After all that, Microsoft Security Essentials is a good pick, or Kaspersy 2011/2012 fine internet security suites. -
I recently had to install windows on my macbook air, so installed windows 7 using boot camp.. The installation went great and that entire day i was workin on windows on my macbook.. Althogth the next day my macbook air refused to work when i turned it on showing only a glimpse of starting screen.. What did i do wrong?!?! How to solve this issue. My book air is only 3 months old and worked perfectly before installing windows.. Any help would be appreciated.. Thank you..

I can't find a specific answer to this question.
I did have a functioning Windows 8 installation on my MacBook Pro previously. I tried to make a third exFAT partition so as to have a drive mutually readable/writable to both operating systems. This made it so I could no longer boot into my Windows installation.
I know I'll need the boot camp drivers installed on the Windows installation after the fact, but would manually creating a partition and installing the OS without Boot Camp Assistant work? And would I be able to boot from it while having a total of 3 partitions?That's the spirit!
Just be sure to have your OS X junk safe in a tested backup, in case the whole thing craps out and you end up having to do a low-level partition and erase of the entire drive.
And like I said, the problem is not OS X. I've set up mine at least once with 4 partitions holding as many flavors of OS X as can run on the hardware, all perfectly bootable on demand. -

I have recently come across some of my old windows applications and an update disk for windows xp sp1. All I have is the update disk and I partitioned my drive and booted into the CD. Whenever I got through some of the processes of the initial install it said that I had an update disk and prompted me to first install an earlier version of windows (in this case I do not own one). Is there anyway that I could bypass this part of setup and install windows using this disk (like I have on PCs with no operating system installed) or do I need to go out and purchase a copy. If there is anyway that you could help it would be appreciated very much because the way the economy is these days I would like to save a couple bucks here or there. Especially putting money to a company like Microsoft....it wouldn't suit my fancy. :DOk, so officially, you have to install it on your Mac's internal drive. Good, thanks for clearing that up.

Using Boot Camp to Install Windows 7. Keep getting error message "Installer Disk Not Found"
I'm partially throught the Boot Camp set-up process and keep getting the same error message when trying to install Windows. The disk is in the drive, not sure why it's not recognizing it.
I had this problem on my brand-new Mac Pro, but fixed it in my case by burning another copy of the installer disc (from the official download image, not a pirate copy lol) at a SLOWER speed, rather than allowing it to burn at the "maximum possible" setting. This gives the laser more time to properly record, but it didn't perceptually increase the time it took to burn the disc.
I speculate that error-checking is too stringent, but weak; that is, not intelligent enough to correct any read errors. Of course, Apple's test configurations are likely using commercially-produced off-the-shelf discs rather than burned from downloads or they know to never use max speed out of habit. -
Apparently, the only boot camp functions that work are restarting in Mac OSX and double-touch right-clicking, which I got after downloading the BootCamp 3.2 upgrade.
This means no sound, no Direct3d (though I've installed the Intel drivers manually and that's now working), no keyboard functions, and no internet access by ethernet port or wifi, which means I won't be able to activate Windows and this install will soon die a quiet death.The Bootcamp Assistant version should 5.1.x.
