HT4241 I hooked up an HDMI cable to my TV and only the video transmits to the TV. Audio stays on the Mac. Solution to get audio on the TV?

See above

Assuming your Mac is relatively new, visit System Preferences > Sound > Output and select the entry that matches your TV. If there is no entry for your TV, your Mac may be too old to have audio out through HDMI, in which case you may need to run a separate audio cable.

Open Sys Prefs > Displays and check the settings there.

The connection of the phone to the monitor would allow you to see, but does not have the ability to translate the touch on the monitor to the phone through that cable.

    Which TV do you have.
You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

Go to sounds in system pref and select outputs. When the hdmi cable is plug into the tv it will show as an option under output. Just select that option.

  • Can you hook up your iPod Touch 4th generation with an HDMI cable to your HDTV and play videos from your iPod to the TV?

I'm trying to find out if I can hook up my iPod touch 4th gen. iOS 5.0.1 to my HDTV with an HDMI cable and have it mirror what I do on the iPod Touch like mirroring videos for example. I need to find out and if so, how?

You can only output content to your TV if the App you are using supports the TV Out functionality. Mirroring is not supported on the iPod Touch.
If you still want to output content from your iPod to your TV, make sure you have the right cables as described here.

  • I have a macbook and it is a dual boot system, I would like to be able to see the mac side of the system on a larger monitor.  I can hook to a hdmi cable and see the pc side, but not the mac side, any suggestions?

I have a macbook that I bought second hand.  The mac has a dual boot system with bootcamp on one side and snow leopard on the other.  I would like to be able to hook to a larger hdmi monitor so that in both systems I could see better since on the leopard side the computer has PS4.  I have purchased the dvi to HDMI accessory and purchased the HDMI to DVI cable, and can see fine on the bootcamp side, but nothing on the leopard side.  Could somebody help me with configuring things so that it will see both side?
Also on a minor note, I need to purchase a new battery for this item and don't know which one to purchase.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially with the display/monitor issue.
    Thanks Sue
ps sorry but the operating system is OS X

When you try to use the Mac side on your external monitor do you get a blank screen or do you see the aurora background?
It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • Mac freezing when hooked up to HDMI cable...

While presenting videos in class for teaching (like youtube and netflix) my mac freezes and lags when hooked up to an hdmi cable. Why?
It freezes at a spot and I hear the audio for a few seconds then it completely freezes-sound too.
In order to remedy this problem I have to unplug, shut down, and restart for a good 5 minutes. Not sure why this is happening but it hurts the flow of my teaching!
    Help

I have been having a similiar issue where I use the HDMI dongle on my MacBook Pro (Late 2011) hooked up to an external TV/Monitor.  After a couple of hours, the MacBook freezes with crazy sounds coming out the speaker and heavy pixelation on the screen.  I reboot and it's fine again. I only had this issue when I started using the HDMI dongle.   I been using the VGA dongle and everything works great.

  • Help using a mini display port to HDMI cable with MacBook Air and TV

Hi, Apple gurus. I need help setting up my MacBook Air to my Vizio TV using a mini display port to HDMI cable that I just purchased on Amazon.
And here's info about my MacBook Air:
In the Amazon reviews, someone posted the following how-tos, which aren't working for me:
    1. Plug in both ends, mini display port on your macbook and the HDMI on any available port on your LCD.
    2. Go to upper left Apple menu and scroll down to system preference. Or use your FINDER from the dock, go to applications, then system preference.
    3. Click on Displays
    4. Click on DETECT DISPLAY
    5. A similar screen pops up with name of your LCD, mine says SONY LCD, click on ARRANGEMENT
    6. Click the box that says MIRROR DISPLAYS.
    7. Go back into system preferences and go to SOUNDS which is located under HARDWARE.
    8. Click on OUTPUT, then select HDMI, which should be listed next to your LCD name.
I ran into trouble at step #4. My MacBook Air doesn't list the option of "detecting display." I do, however, have the box mentioned in step #6, "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available."
Regarding step #8, HDMI didn't appear in the list — I only see "internal speakers."
So, what am I doing wrong? Or, did I buy the wrong cable?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Or you need to get an appropriate adaptor. The Griffin adaptor sold on Apple's Online Store will work with a standard HDMI cable.

  • I want to link my Mac Mini through my independent hifi system, which forms part of my home tv system which is the monitor I am using with the Mac Mini. The hdmi cable I am using comes from the receiver of the tv. I cannot get sound from the Mac Mini. Do

I cannot link my new MacMini with my TV's sound system. It's a Pioneer screen & receiver with an independent Pioneer Amp. The Mac Mini does not pick up the sound through the hdmi cable, so how do I get sound going through the MacMini so I can appreciate the music and films I want to hear. Do I need another piece of Apple kit? I have seen 'Express' on Apples web site. Surely I dont have to pay for this as well?
I used to have an Apple TV box which had a seperate audio connection from my Pioneer Amp and it worked great.
    Help will be appreciated

The Mac Mini is going to be used for an Internet connection on the Pioneer Plasma/receiver so I can also play stored films from a seperate hard drive. The receiver has an HDMI connection which I have connected the Mac Mini too. the picture is fine, but there is no sound. I have checked the 'sound' settings on the Mac Mini and it registers the Pioneer PDP receiver is connected but states it has no audible connection?

  • Please Help! HDMI sound playing from laptop and NOT the TV

Synopsis: Installed Windows 8.1 on new SSD on my Toshiba P75-A7200. I stalled all the drivers from Toshiba website. Everything works except now my HDMI audio does not play on TV play from laptop. I reinstalled the original v. of Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Conexant Smart Audio HD drivers. I also looked in the volume control panel and sound playback options looking for HDMI setting with no luck. Has anyone encountered this? OR have an idea how to get my audio working with HDMI cable to TV?
I checked different HDMI cables to be sure it wasn't a bad cable.

If you're determined to set things right, you can always restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media and upgrade to Windows 8.1 this way
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 60 of the User's Guide.

  • For apple tv 3, I"m using a hdmi convertor box to component and only get the apple symbol at first, then it disappears, tried more than one convertor box

Tried converting hdmi into component, two different converter boxes, one worked at first and then stopped. Any suggestions? I know the apple tv is working because I tested it on another tv using the hdmi cable to tv.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    Signal Conversion.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

  • Hooking up an HDMI cable

    Hi All,
I have a new 17" macbook pro w/ thunderbolt port. I keep reading that I can hook up this laptop to my HDMI tv. The adapters I see on this site are all minidisplay to HDMI. I can't seem to find the mini display port on my macbook pro.
Could someone help me figure this out.
    Thanks,

You really need to chill dude.
And you need to read more carefully
Your statement was "I think the minidisplay port and thunderbolt are interchangeable"
A thunderbolt peripheral connected to an MDP port is not supported at all, and MDP peripheral connected to a thunderbolt port may be supported but there are caveats even to that.
