Lost my remote to my Apple TV. Downloaded the remote app to my iPhone but you need to have home sharing turned on the Apple TV to use this. Does this mean I need to purchase a new Apple TV?
Any code association only applies to 1st gen Apple TV.
Again, the remote app will need home sharing enabled on the APPLE TV. They also need to be on the same wifi network. The OP has a new network.

I have logged in to iTunes on my PC and enabled Home Sharing, I have then downloaded the Apple TV Remote app on my iphone5 and turned the Home Sharing on there as well.
Now when I turn the app on the only icon that I see to control is the iTunes library. I assume that the last thing that I need to do is to turn on the Home Sharing function on in Apple TV the only problem is that I don't have a remote to control anything. The screen is on I just can't navigate.

i have dowloaded the app "remote" to use my iphone as a remote for my itunes library, i have turned on home shareing on my laptop. they dont seem to be talking to each other. i have also tried the other way of adding a library on my iphone, but my laptop wont show my phone on the devices list.
anyhelp would be apreciatedTurn off home sharing, you don't need that. Open Itunes Preferences from the computer. Go to the devices section. At the bottom you will see the option to add a remote access that and follow the steps.

home sharing is not set on the appletv but on the itunes program on the computer which lib one wish to share
the home share password need not be the appleID password as homeshare is also meant to share your media with others on your LAN network whom you may not wish to know your appleID password
so home sharing password is set seperately in ituens on your computer -
Does anyone know how to get homesharing working right? I have it on my computer and it shows that it is sharing, but on my apple tv it says that it is not working when I look under the computer tabs...?

I just installed Apple TV. Works fine but turrns itself off at regular intervals of about 30 minutes. This requires me to re-enter my Apple ID and re-start all over again. Wjen I check iTunes on my computer, home sharing is still turned on. THis leads me to think the problem is in how I configured Apple TV on my HDTV. Any advice on where I should look?

After an hour with phone tech support I have re-installed the current Apple TV software update., re-booted the entire system three times., checked each of my two Airport Express's.,unplugged and re[plugged in every cable, ad infinitum, ad nauseum and still no luck. I have also decided iTunes 11 *****. Not near as intuitive especially with regard to moving stuff around between my playlists, etc.
Alright guys, is this a problem because of iTunes 11? Is Apple releasing stuff before adequate debugging? Did Steve take his high standards with him? -

If home sharing is setup and you have an IOS device that is on the same network you can download the remote app. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a new remote.

You are not communicating with Apple by posting here. Everyone here is just a fellow user and cannot fix anything.
The Find My iPad service may have indeed been accurate to the limits of the technology. Unless the iPad was a 3G unit, location is determined based on the nearest WiFi router which in your case could just happened to have been yours. The police may be the ones who need to "fix" their understanding of how the technology works and its limitations.
