HT4623 locating lost or stolen phone

How can I locate my lost or stolen phone

Use Find My iPhone ... if you've set it up!
If you did set it up, go to http://www.icloud.com, sign in, and go to Find My iPhone.
If you did not set it up, you're out of luck.
Either way, contact the authorities if it was stolen.

How to locate missing or stolen iPhone

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

  • Has anyone else had terrible customer service trying to replace a lost or stolen phone through Verizon?

Has anyone else had terrible customer service trying to replace a lost or stolen phone under their warranty plan?  How did you get a resolution or replacement phone?

    Hello dpetrie,
A lost or stolen phone is definitely not fun! If this is the case then I'm sure that we have an option available for you. May I ask what model device did you lose? As tikibar1 mentioned, do you have insurance on the device? If so then please advise so we can share options with you.
    Thank you...

  • Locating Lost or Stolen iPad or iPhone

Basically, this is a posting for BOTH Apple and mobile device users.  It contains suggestions for Apple and tips for user who have lost a trackable device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, etc).
Recently we misplaced an iPad in an Orlando airport.  After several days of going through a lot of processes, contacting many agencies, etc. I was able to determine its position to recover it.  In the proccess, I learned a lot, and by being an electronics and software engineer, I see holes that Apple could fill to help out customers in these situations.  Of course it occured to me that Apple may not have an interest in helping users recover a lost or stolen product because it might be viewed that a user will just order another one.  I bet sales would actually increase if it were guaranteed that a lost iProduct could not be used by another person.  So being that such protection with in-field products could be done with an OS firmware update, I will first suggest the following changes in hope that someone at Apple is listening.  After all, they are really smart people, yet I am amazed that only no assistance or tools are embedded into Apple mobile devices during production for when they are lost.
    APPLE SUGGESTIONS:
    1. Don't require a user to separately set up a MobileMe account or iCloud account to be able to track a device.  Build that application into the mobile device OS.  Allow a user to enable or disable device tracking settings from the remote account.  If a user desires, it should not be allow to be disabled at the device even if it is reset.  In this way, a person who has stolen a device won't be able to deactivate tracking. Yes, I understand that in order to track a device that it must be connected to an internet network, WiFi or cellular network at some point.
    2. Create an ability in the iTunes account for a user to report a lost or stolen device.  If you see that device connected in the future, then report that fact back to the owener and don't allow any updates or purchases to occur on that device until the owner cancels the "BLOCK".
    3. Put a LOT more information in your support forum about how device tracking works and suggestions for various ways to recover a device.  What you have there is painfully insufficient.  With tens of millions of your devices out there, I bet that hundreds of them are lost each week, and you are doing nothing to assist a user to relocate those devices.
    USER TIPS:
As you might have seen already on other forums or postings, one possibility to find a device is through the "Find My Device" feature, yet if you didn't install that app and turn on the ability to track the device in advance of losing it, then you are out of luck.
HOW I LOCATED MY PAD: In my case, I did not have a cellular data plan activated even though the iPad2 had AT&T 3G built-in.  I was always using my iPhone as a WiFi hotspot for the iPad internet connection via the iPhone (nice feature that Apple included).  Thus, when the iPad was lost and no longer near my iPhone, I was not able to use the "Find My iPad" app even though it was previously installed.  I could only locate it if someone opened the iPad and connected to a local WiFi network in order for me to see where it was located.  That did not happen.  Thus, I discovered the little known AT&T site of http://ATT.com/ipadlanding so I could sign-up for a one month $15 data plan.  By entering the iPad IMEI and ICCID numbers (from my iPad product box) into the online account, I could create a new data plan.  Within minutes of doing it, the iPad (still had battery power after 4 days) lite up on the "Find my iPad" web site when it saw the AT&T cell network.  By using a combination of Google and phone directory services to get the address and phone number of that location, I was able to call and get them to locate it after I sent an audible alert and message to the iPad.  Of course, this only worked because I have an iPad2 with ATT&T 3G.
Best wishes for finding your device.

someone from Apple must watching these forums because I got an email about it from an Apple employee to ask more questions.
Sometimes they do, but with thousands of posts to scan through, it's not often that comments to Apple will be spotted by anyone in a position to do anything about them. Using the Feedback is a more reliable way of sending comments and suggestions to Apple.
I plan to go post on their feeback site anyway as it appears this is mainly a user to user forum.
Correct, it is intended to user-to-user communication, not contacting Apple (which is as it says in the Terms of Use we all see when we first sign on).
    Regards.

  • Can a current Verison customer get into trouble for claiming false information regarding lost or stolen phones and their account, just to have them suspended?

I know of a family member that has filed (called) a false claim of 5 phones on their account being lost or stolen just to have them suspended, is there anything that can be reported or someone that can be notified to report this issue and/or can they get into trouble for filing or claiming false information?

Why claim lost or stolen?  Why not just suspend the lines?  In any case, the lines can be suspended, with or without payment, even without reporting them lost or stolen.  The only point to reporting them that way is to prevent them from being used on another account.
If they were to try and replace them via insurance, there would be a deductible to pay.  They may need to show proof if reported as stolen (police report).
I guess I'm puzzled as to the motive behind reporting them to be lost or stolen rather than a simple suspension.

  • Locking a lost or stolen phone

I recently left my phone at a park, and when I went back it was gone.  It has been several days and no one has turned it in, so I believe someone has kept it and is planning to use it.  I transferred my phone number to a temporary phone.  I would like to lock it and mark it as stolen/lost.  I have tried going through 611 but it will only let me lock my current phone number.
Is there a customer service rep that will help walk me through how to lock the phone and put it on the stolen/lost list?  I have the phones ID number.

Call customer service again and report the phone stolen.

  • Is there a way of getting your photos off your lost or stolen phone using any type of app?

hi my phone was stolen last couple of days and i was wondering.. i know icloud had it to where you can still see all of your contacts but is there a way of getting all of your pictures back?

Unless you get the phone back, no.

  • Lost or stolen phone

My phone has been missing since 3/6/2015. I had service suspended yesterday and I need to see if someone has tried to use my phone the 6th.

Contact Verizon to report it lost and try to use Android Device Manager to find your phone...that is, IF it is on.  If it is on it means someone else has it at this point, since the battery would already be dead.  You can also check your My Verizon account for any use by date online.

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • HT4061 I lost my IPhone5 and after 7 hours I called lost and stollen and now I can't track where was the last location I left the phone ,and I don't remember if I stablished the FIND MY PHONE app.

I lost my IPhone5 and after 7 hours I called lost and stollen and now I can't track where was the last location I left the phone ,and I don't remember if I stablished the FIND MY PHONE app.
Is there any way that I can find the last location that I left it,eventhough I called in lost and stolen and reactivated my # to a different device.

If you didn't set up Find My iPhone or it otherwise does not appear in icloud.com, then there's no way to trace it. Notify the police and your cell carrier, and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPhone (the iTunes Store, for instance).
