HT4623 My iPad refuses to acknowledge any updates beyond 5.1.1! I cannot update it no matter what I try. HELP!
During a recent "***?!" situation, and the resultant complete restore to factory default, my husband's iPad will not update!
Fast forward a few weeks when we get our new iMac and though we were instructed to make different users to allow each of us to use our different devices, we still cannot update his. While my iPad2 updates flawlessly, my husband's refuses to acknowledge there is even an update past the 5.1.1! He's frustrated as you all likely know, apps are beginning to require that the pad is updated as well. I'm feeling some guilt here because mine is working.
Please...help me alleviate my guilt!!
What model iPad does he have ? If it's a first gen iPad then 5.1.1 is the highest version that it supports

HT4623 My iPad does not have software update in settings? What can I do to get iOS 6?
My iPad does not have software update in settings, what can I do to download iOS 6?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

I have just updated my iTunes to 11.1.3. I followed all correct steps, restarted my computer etc but now I cannot open iTunes not matter what I try and do.
Very frustrating. Have read the trouble shooting info on Apple website but nothing has worked.
Someone please help. I cannot access any of my music.Open Finder. Go to the "Go" menu in the menu bar. Press and hold Control and click on Library. Go to "Preferences". Find a file named, "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and delete that file. This won't delete your iTunes content. It will reset iTunes. Try it again.

New iPad REFUSES to acknowledge valid Apple ID?
I have a "fresh from the factory, just out of the box" iPad 2. I was trying to run the setup, and when it got to the part to sign in using my EXISTING Apple ID, the iPad refuses to acknowledge the VALID Apple ID. Ironically, I have to use this selfsame Apple ID in order to post this question. AND, I use this Apple ID in order to use my iPod. What is the fix for this?
Hi,
I've come here looking for answers to exactly the same question, although using a brand new ipad3.
I'm unable to log into itunes or app store using my apple id which I created earlier this evening, although I can log onto the apple website to maintain my id and also to get onto this forum.
I've just emailed support for an answer, hopefully they will give stops to resolve the issue, or someone in the know will already know the answer on here. -

Connect your iPad to iTune (computer) and Check for Updates. Backup before you proceed with update.

Ipad 1st gen. Safari cannot open page because address is invalid. I get this trying to download apps from itunes, infact it will do this under any variable. I have tried copy paste in url but it doesn't matter what i try, safari doesnt allow anyway i try. I have searched answers to this but to no avail.
LeighHi Demo,
Yes, I have not made myself clear, I apologise.
I have tried downloading apps from itunes in order to set up a game for my son, when I go to click on a link, be this in itunes, or on the web, Safari revolts back informing the address is invalid. I read by coping a link and pasting into the URL, this would do it, but not so.
My goal then, is to install Minecraft for my son, I would then download an app to allow this but I am unable to get this far due to Safari insulting the address I ask it to go to
The iPad is first generation
OS 5.1.1 Software up to date.
Thank you in advance for your time -
HT201210 no matter what I try, my iPhone 4s & iPad 2 won't start the backup session
No matter what I try, I keep getting "iTunes could not backup the iPhone/iPad because a session could not be started with the ..."
These are other steps you can follow to restore any data, photos etc. , lost as a result of restoring your device. Hopefully this can help you should you encounter the same problem I did.
Here are the steps to successfully backup and restore your device. 1. Make sure your iTunes is updated to the latest version. If it is not, please download and install iTunes from here: www.itunes.com 2. Import Photos - Use article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083 3. Transfer your purchases: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848 4. Back Up - Use article: iOS: How to Back Up http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 5. Restore - Use article: iTunes: Restoring iOS Software http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414 6. Restore from backup - See section titled "How to restore from backup" in article iOS: How to Back Up http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 Some additional information for you as well. iOS: Resolving update and restore alert messages http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275 iOS: Unable to update or restore http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 About: iOS Backups http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946 Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 -
Can't seem to download any app despite entering the correct password and answering 3 security question but still in the end it comes up the message that my session has timed out no matter what! Please help, many thanks in adv!!
Try doing it on your computer with iTunes and then sync to your iPad to see if it clears the problem.

My mac has a "Kernel Panic" screen come up on start up. No matter what I try I can't get past this to fix it. Any hints out there? Do I have to completely wipe my drive and re-install to fix this? I can't even back up my files before doing this as like I say I can't get past the Kernel Panic message.
There are some fairly informative articles about kernel panics...
•OS X: About kernel panics:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Note the toggle triangles to get more info in the above article, some are
important steps, with alternative methods of accessing or performing a
suggested activity and may vary with the OS X version in use.
•Resolving Kernel Panics:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
•Technical Note: TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics:
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2063/_index.html
The above TN covers several technical aspects to identify & troubleshoot.
Some are above the average user needs, but still can be rather helpful.
Hopefully you can get past the kernel panic screen, there are several
ways to attempt to do that, however if the issue is hardware, a reinstall
of the OS X may not cure the underlying cause of the symptom.
Good luck & happy computing! -
My Mavericks upgrade crashed my hard drive and I had to reinstall Mountain Lion. Now I cannot get any of the apps that I purchased to download. The icons on the launchpad just say "waiting" no matter what I try. My app store ID is fine. What do I do?
Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed. -
Since iTunes Radio is now in Canada, all my devices are up to date, (iTunes'11.1.5', my macbook'10.9.2', and my iPod and iPhone'7.1', but still no iTunes radio on any of them no matter what i try. any help?
iTunes Radio is not yet available in Canada.
According to this Apple Support page, it is currently only available in the US and Australia which is revealed half-way down the page, between the two matrices.
For those with an aversion to scrolling, or with TL;DR issues, simply ⌘-F "iTunes Radio availability by country". -
I have a problem that my phone only vibrates but does NOT ring any more. No matter what I try to do with settings turning off "silent" or whatever nothing helps. Do I need to reset. what are the consequences of resetting?
What a numpty! Yes of course you're right.
Couldn't find the answer when searching the forum but then came accross this.
Next dumb question coming up! :-( -

How to Upgrade to iOS 7
To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
1. If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
2. Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
3. After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
4. If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
5. After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
6. From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
7. After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
8. After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
Cheers, Tom
