i have the same problem
i think the reason is
Windows XP x64
Installation by installationfile
"Shockwave_Installer_Full1014.exe" is possible (no error message)
but it creates no DestinationFolder
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\
on Windos XP 32bit it creates the folder
Removing Shockwaveplayer using Control Panel --> "Add or
Remove Programs" is possible too
no error message
Repair Shockwaveplayer using Control Panel --> "Add or
Remove Programs" is NOT possible
window opens with the message:
Select Installation Pathname
Enter the full pathname to the installation file with the
following attributes:
%s
Source Pathname:
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\GLB34.tmp
Options are OK or Cancel
the file GLB34.tmp isn´t on my Harddisk XP64bit
on XP32bit the file isn´t on harddisk too
Please tell me iif you need more information

I had the same problem when i dl-ed a new anti-virus softward, but what I did help me reconnect Firefox again!
Here is what I did,
Go to open firefox browser-->option-->advanced-->network-->settings-->and change it to auto-detect proxy settings for this network!

Download new itunes update and now it wont let me sync. Keeps saying I need 26gb of free space which it didn't say before I downloaded the update. It doesn't make sense. It keeps saying:
The iPod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library. (additional 26gb required)
This makes no sense because before the new itunes update there was no problem with me not having enough space. I have 5gb of free space now and I had 5gb of free space before I downloaded the itunes update. Nothing should've changed. And I should not need an extra 26gb of space. How do i fix this problem so I can my ipod normally again.

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
Come back with the results.

I'm still having this issue. I also had the same issue when trying to download a large update for an app (43MB). I can download and install smaller udpates but I can't even download the large updates. I've checked all of my firewall settings and they are fine. I've turned off the firewall when trying to download the update and it still does not work. It just keeps saying that my network connection timed out.
I'm not at the stage where I can't install new apps because it requires the latest OS version on my iphone which I can't get!

If on windows, take a look at the following file to see what's going on:
c:\Document and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\logs\Install.log
Common issues:
The version number specified in the application.xml file of the download is not the same as the value specified in the update.xml file.
The application ID of the new file is not the same as that in the old file.
At any rate, the probable in most probably due to an invalid value in the application descriptor file.

try to exit out of the youtube app with the multitasking feature. if this doesnt work then try to do a manual restart by holding down the home and power/sleep button all the way past the "slide to unlock" screen until the ipod will power off and the apple symbol will appear when the ipod tuens back on
