  • Do you know any independent iBooks non-fiction authors in the UK

I am looking for any indepependent UK-based non-fiction authors who have a title in the iBooks Store -  preferably built using iBooks Author.  It is great being an indie but it would be great to collaborate on some marketing activity, eg real life and virtual eBooks signings and advertising.  Popular history would be a good fit.  Do you know anyone who fits that description?

Kobo, Blurb  et al users   can be  found in various forums... I did  a long time  ago.. but I have no links for you now.
A bit of online  search should  find them.
As a guide.  these discussion groups two years ago were showing 20,000 upwards of views on each post !
now its 5..  reason is  when folk have matered iBA - they move on and dont need help, so  requests such as  yours fall on "deaf ears"... they have flown the coop!

  • Approval of OCP Course Reqm't from a Non-Oracle-authorized training center

    Hello,
I am currently an OCA, but would like to get my OCP certification. I took an instructor-led training, specifically a 3-week course covering one week of each: 1) SQL Fundamentals I, 2) Program with PL/SQL, and 3) Oracle Database Administration Fundamentals. I took my two Oracle OCA exams from the training center after the three-week training course and also received a certificate from the training center confirming that I completed the course.
However, the training institute is not an Oracle authorized training center. Does this mean that I will not be able to get credit for these for my OCP certification since the training institute is not an Oracle authorized training center?
    Thanks.

Just to clarify .... as far as i know ..... and this is all as far as I know ....
The hands on course requirement can be met by a approved course on the selected list of the certification taken from an Oracle Approved Education Center, Oracle Unversity, or WDP.
It is possible for a WDP institute to be offering Oracle Training outside of the WDP course, this would not be acceptable for certification. It would be nearly impossible for a student to realise this with clarity. (As far as I am aware WDP training would be characterised by a limited number of hours per week, about 4 or so, as far as I am aware if your training exceeded this intensity you should not be on a ).
It is perfectly possible for a institution to offer training for certification training without delivering oracle approved OAEC or WDP courses; however :
    - The training will not qualify for meeting hands on course requirements.
    - It may be that the institute shouldbuy relevant oracle licenses from Oracle.
    - The student is pleased the training gets them their OCA; however it is only afterwards they realise it does not help towards a DBA OCP.
From your point of view it is worth remembering PL/SQL OCP and FORMS OCP does not currently have a hands on course requirement; so you could pursue that i suppose.

  • HT5071 Non-US Free iBook Publishing

I'm an Indonesian and I am trying to publish my book for free in the iBookstore. Will it be available for download in Non-US iBookstores? Or do people still need to have a US iTunes account in order to download my book? Thank you

Its  always difficult to say how long it will take the review team to get around to your book.
You should be aware that they may find issues with your book and notify you that it has a "ticket". The  ticket should indicate what needs to done to correct the issue and be re-delivered using the same Vendor ID and files ( now corrected).
IF  your book is OK at  first review, you will see the red dot under your book in iTunes Connect change to green.
Usually before that you will have an email to notify that your book as been passed to the iBookstore. After that it can take - 7 - 14 days before  you will see it "online".  BUT there have been reports here that books have gone through in hours rather than days.. so its really a case of "wait and see" and be patient because it can be frustrating waiting... but it will apear eventually.

  • Ibooks author for windows

Is there any way to use ( ibooks author ) in windows 7 ?

What amazes me is that Apple is shutting off non-Mac authors, who are Windows-based.   Using 3rd party aggregators is not the answer here.  Amazon has "Kindle apps" for all Apple devices, and hence, will be able to sell books to Windows or Apple OS users.  Apple, on the other hand, seems to be shutting out a very important segment of the market (i.e., Windows authors).  Unless you go through an aggregator (and this process is difficult and fraught with problems, from all that I have read), Apple is betting on the world being Mac-based.  Apple should have a Windows port of its iBook Author and iTunes Producer programs.  Am I missing something here?

  • My ipod touch 4G is having several problems, how could that be ?

Look guys, my ipod touch 4G's seems to be a lot weaker than its friends. There were a lot of lags even after restoring (I haven't jailbroken it yet). And even a lot of wierd problems.
Here's a list of where these problems took place :
Lagging after slide to unlock, where I can't input anything (tap/slide) for about 5 secs on the homescreen
Lagging when playing graphic intensive games (but on my friend's ipod touch 4G, it was OK) such as Dead Trigger
Severe lagging when pressing home button after using CPU intensive application
Home button always reacts about 2-3 secs late even when I'm at the homescreen
Severe battery shortage, 4 hours to watch video on 1/4 brightness and muted speaker (i hear the sound through headphone)
Back of the ipod touch always warm even when unused (no background apps)
Tried to get the ipod touch to ASP but warranty revoked since I can't prove its possession by registering the product to my AppleID
I thought it was a problem with iOS 5.1.1 (preinstalled to the ipod touch), and I found out that it was supposed to be pre-installed to iOS 5.0.1
I don't know if it had any other problem although I'm still trying to look for those other problems. I asked on other non-apple authorized websites, and responds were negative as if I were conned for buying this used ipod as a new retail unit.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. ou do not need a waranty.

  • OS 8.6 and USB flash drive

Is there software that will allow me to save my old documents and photos from my G3 iMac to a USB flash drive? Or is it not a software problem. I guess all flash drives are now USB 2.0. Any other ideas to salvage my old files?

    I tried http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60394
Unfortunately, the software installation failed, see below. When following your instructions for my G3 iMac running Mac OS D1-8.6 and a 96MB hard drive, the computer froze during the Install Software part of the installation routine after clicking the Start and the Continue buttons even though all other software was off. Does anybody have a suggestion what may have caused this? Perhaps my non Apple-authorized SCSI board which I put in myself years ago?
    Thanks

  • Cm:select - howo to use distinct and such

    Hello:
    I need to do
    SELECT DISTINCT object_name FROM
    content
How do I do that using cm:select?
Is there a document anywhere that would explain the cm:select query
    language syntax?
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Gennadiy,
Unfortunately, what you want to do cannot be done via the cm:select tag, nor
any of the standard public APIs. As was mentioned previously, if you were
using the reference implementation, you could execute a SQL statement
against the commercePool which looked like:
    SELECT DISTINCT AUTHOR FROM WLCS_DOCUMENT
    or:
    SELECT DISTINCT VALUE FROM WLCS_DOCUMENT_METADATA
WHERE NAME = 'the name of the property you want'
With Documentum, that obviously won't work. However, when you setup WLPS
2.0.1 with Documentum, you configure a JDBC connection pool (dctmPool) that
utilizes the Documentum JDBC driver. You can execute DQL select statements
through this. Also, the Documentum Foundation Classes (DFC) are shipped
with the Documentum WLPS integration piece, so those could be used.
Questions related to how to use DQL or DFC should be directed to Documentum
    support.

    Thanks BUT --
I did read the documentation and there is no way I could find to do what I
    need to do..
I need to get a list of certain attributes from the content repository, not
    just from the arbitrary database.
The documents in the repository have certain attributes - for example"autor"
    - so I need to get all the authors the documents have so I can buildbrowse by
    author drop down list.
cm:select only allows me to get list of documents where for example author
    like "Asimov".
So hence my question - how do I get a list of all possible non repeated
    authors from the repositiory.
    Thanks

    Hi Gennadiy,
The <cm:select ...> tag is used to get information from the Content
    Management source.
You can see the details of this tag at the following documentation URL:
    http://edocs.beasys.com/wlcs/p13ndev/jsptags.htm#1057716
If you want to get info from the database, and want to use a SQL
    statement
such as "SELECT DISTINCT object_name FROM ...", you should probably look
    into the <es:preparedstatement ...>
    tag.
Check the documentation for the <cm:select ...> tag. There just mightbe
enough info there to help you out!

  • Which version of ABAP certification should i take up?

    Hi,
I am new to SAP. I have taken up some training on SAP ABAP for non-SAP authorized training centers and planning to take up certification.
Could some one please explain to me the difference between C_TAW12_71 and C_TAW12_731.
Do you think any ABAP/4 Training taken and materials studied should suffice taking either of 71 or 731 certification?
Are there any specific study materials for each of these certifications?
Which certification do you think I should take up? and what are the benefits of each?
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Ibrahim

I can see that training.sap.com says
C_TAW12_71 has pass percentage of 64%
C_TAW12_731 has pass percentage of 60%.
Is the pass cutoff the same for all regions?
Also who do you think can give a correct answer for the region based pass cutoff, SAP Education or Pearson Vue?
    Thanks
    Ibrahim

  • Third-party hard drive replacement

I want to upgrade the hard drive in my ca. March 2006 MacBook Pro (2.0 GHz) with something bigger than the original 100 GB Seagate that came in it. I have looked online at the various places that offer directions for doing this yourself and, frankly, don't feel comfortable trying this myself. Because I live in a rural area, I am not close to any Apple Authorized Repair Centers, and so I would like to send it off to have the hard drive replaced. I had good luck in the past with iResQ (they fixed a dead Titanium PowerBook that I used before I got this MBP) and I have seen a few other places online.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with first-hand experience with any of these third-party places doing hard drive replacement. Any and all comments (or suggestions - except telling me that I can do it myself) will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Quite true--I should have phrased that more along the lines that you risk voiding your warranty if a non- Apple authorized person does the repair. I believe that if an Apple authorized repair person inflicts damage while in the computer, Apple will still honor the warranty because the damage was done by someone that they authorized to do the work. If someone unauthorized does the work, there is always the possibility that some future problem may be blamed on the unauthorized work and won't be covered. And if the unauthorized person causes actual damage, you're on your own, for that damage anyway. Applecare should still cover something totally unrelated.
The one thing that does change is that the new drive itself will not be covered by Applecare any more. However, it will be covered by the manufacturer's own warranty, which is usually 3-5 years. Everything else in the machine should still be covered by Applecare.

  • Publish iWeb blog from Windows

Hello everyone. I just created a blog in iWeb and publish it on an FTP server, but the blog will be managed by a friend and I, and my friend uses Windows. I want to know if there is any way for my friend to post on the blog from Windows.
    Thank you.

Frankly, there must a way around this. Granted, there's no chance your friend on the PC can run iWeb, but all iWeb does (assuming you're using a local folder and not MobileMe) is edit the html and xml files. In theory, if your friend can edit these files from afar and update your files with newer versions, there stands no reason that this shouldn't work.
Come to think of it, you could use DropBox. Saving your site to a local folder in your DropBox folder (my website, for example, uses this trick), you can give your friend the authorization to access the folder, which only requires an internet connection to access. From there, he or she may be able to edit the code (adding a new post, for example) and saving the changed documents in the DropBox folder. You can use whatever FTP program you like to upload your website from said local folder.
Does any of that make sense? I'm facing similar problems, trying to give non-Mac authors access to post on my iWeb-constructed website.

  • BBY & Geek Squad Just Tell the Truth

I purchased my current Samsung TV on January 29, 2011. Really, my husband wandered over to the TV section, saw this TV, and like the adult kid he was said he had to have it. Best TV we ever bought. Never had one problem with it. My husband was killed 6 months after getting the TV but when I look at it I remember that little boy smile when he first saw it. We purchased the full protection Black Tie 4 year plan. Best TV ever. In January 2014, I asked the local Owensboro, KY Geek Squad to check out an issue regarding a loss of audio and video when the local cable company sent thru the Emergency Broadcast System Test. The TV's audio would cease and video would go gray and would only return when I changed the channel. The GS tech told me it was the "assy pcb main". I specifically asked if the part would be the exact same part # that was in the TV now and if it would be new not refurbished because the TV worked great, had a great picture. He said yes and ordered the part.
There are times one should listen to one's instincts and in this case I trusted GS and not my instincts. Big mistake. The GS tech came back, put in the part (in a hurry), did not resize, the part was obviously refurbished. I called GS and scheduled for a return visit to get the size of picture too fit the screen. Apparently, the part had been in a 46inch TV   While waiting for GS to return, I called Samsung. Samsung asked who put the part in the TV and told me it was the wrong part. I was then informed at that time by Samsung that GS was not a Samsung Authorized Service Center. They gave me the phone numbers of local Samsung ASC's trained work on their TVs and identify issues. After all that, the problem wasn't my TV it was the cable box. When the GS tech came back, he brought another part that someone had spilled coffee all over and it was sticky. The picture was all out of whack. I called and asked if GS would send someone more experienced and requested the specific part recommended for this TV model and version by Samsung. They said they would and another tech came. I asked this different GS tech if he was an authorized Samsung tech and he said "yes, we have six hours of training on repairing Samsung TVs".  Oh my, six hours, I felt so much better. He is qualified for brain surgery and dishonest. Great.  The TV is still out of whack. I did ask both GS techs if they had looked at the service manual for this model before coming out and both said "no."  So much for doing your research.  My poor once perfect TV has been mutilated by GS. After days of calling with my only request being that they order the correct part and not a refurbished one, I get a guy "Cole" who tells me he is ordering it directly from Samsung as we are speaking and that he is the Director over all the Geek Squad Techs. Cole tells me they are Samsung Authorized Service Techs but Cole doesn't know the number assigned to GS by Samsung nor where to find it. Odd.  Turns out he didn't order the part directly from anywhere either.  3 weeks later I get a call from Ramona telling me my options under my warranty. First, I can request a non GS authorized Samsung Service Center come to my home to try and repair the TV or I have the option to have my TV junked out. My TV is far from junk and I took the option of the outside repair which Ramona said she would inform Cole about. About an hour later, Ross whose title comes right out of a Psychology book Milgrim's study on authority (you know the white coat, push the button) I almost laughed thinking it was a joke. Title: Special Forces Team Director for Geek Squad. A title meant to get one to comply with authority. Ross nicely asked what was going on and so I go through the whole story again for the 100th time. He asked how the TV had sentimential value. I have to go through explaining how we came to own the TV and how my husband was killed. Great. Ross says he will have someone out the next morning to repair the TV. The next day it is 10 am, Katrina calls for Cole telling me and I quote "Cole has made the decision to junk out your TV. I need to give you a confirmation number so you can go to the local Best Buy store and pick out a comparible model." I asked why he suddenly without cause made this decision. Katrina rudely said it didn't matter. I asked if I had any other options. Katrina said "Cole has taken away all other options." Wow. Powerful almighty Cole has removed my options under a warranty I purchased because he is angry because he got caught lying about being a Samsung Authorized Service Center. A bit childish and very vendictive.
I go to the local store and of course they try to give you a list of every model that doesn't come close to your model. They are listing the models that are on the Samsung website on sale. I go home do my research and make a choice. I call before I go back to the store to order my choice and I am told great. I get there and they have printed out paperwork on a different model because the model I wanted is not in stock, they can't order it, and it isn't in the warehouse. It is available on Best Buy.com but I have to give them my TV first before they can place the order on Best Buy.com. Why would I do such a stupid thing? To date, I have yet to get one honest answer from Best Buy or Geek Squad. The only consistency has been their dishonesty. This TV is proof of their fraud. Don't think so. Not giving them this TV first.
Maybe I'm old fashioned or maybe I just don't belong in this time. I found myself thinking of the CEO,Founder of Best Buy who must have at one time had a dream of what he wanted his company to become and reflect. Does it bother him what they do, how it reflects on his name, on what he built? I recall a time when how you conducted your business reflected on your name, your reputation, your honor, and it mattered. Yes, it is only TV. I happen to have a fond memory attached to it of my husband's child like smile trying to sway me to give in and buy it. More than anything I know when people speak my husband's name, it is with honor knowing he was an honest man. Mr. CEO, Founder of Best Buy what have they done to your name? As of today, regardless of whether you were aware or not you are responsible for the actions of those employed by the company you created. It is they who have dishonored your name, your business, and made both untrustworthy.  A person's legacy is not in how rich they were in life but in how they treated others in life. Mr. CEO Founder, what will be your legacy? No doubt people will say you were rich but more importantly will they say that you were an honest man who treated people fairly. Time to make a decision. Death comes when we least expect it and leaves little time to make things right. I of all people know. Clear your name if you care about it or do nothing and your legacy will be that of a dishonorable, dishonest man.

    Hello celticmyth,
It's never precisely fair to compare one person's loss to another's, but when I lost my Dad several years ago, everything that I had of his was suddenly imbued with an almost overpowering sense of his person. It seemed that I could bear the loss of him just a little better by being close to those objects that he had shared with me, that he had once held dear. I think I might have a touch of understanding for your feelings about your TV and how you see your husband's smile reflected in it. I'm very, deeply sorry for your loss.
While I can't speak to all of the issues surrounding Geek Squad's attempts to repair your TV, it's clear from your description that in each case the results were unsatisfactory. It is ever our goal to keep our commitments: if you were promised that the part would be new, it should have been. When asked about Geek Squad technician's qualifications to complete the repairs, your query should have been met with a straightforward answer. I apologize for your having to cope with situations where you felt that there was obfuscation at the very least.
It is also the goal of Geek Squad to complete repairs successfully as quickly as possible so that you do not have to be without the use of your TV for overly long. When this can't be achieved, we may make the decision to authorize the replacement of the TV under the terms of Geek Squad Protection. In most cases, this is greeted with delight by customers who have been in repair limbo for a while. In a case such as yours, where the TV represents a joyful memory, this simple replacement authorization can become a much more complex proposition. It is not our intent to create ill will or hurt, but to ensure that you have a working TV. It is regrettable if this action on our part added more frustration to an already aggravating process.
In order for your local Best Buy to proceed with the replacement of your original TV, it will have to be surrendered to us. Based on the notes recorded from your telephone conversations with us and what you've said above, the store will be able to assist with ordering the TV you've selected by providing a store credit in exchange for the TV. Alas, the credit cannot be provided before we accept possession of the TV, in the same way that we do not provide a refund for an item without first accepting the returned product from you.
I encourage you to continue to work with your local Best Buy store representatives toward the replacement of your TV. It is my hope that your selection will give you many years of enjoyment and remain a reminder of a treasured moment with your husband.
I'm very grateful that you shared your experience with me.
    Sincerely,

  • How to Download Leopard from the Apple site

Well my MBP dumped its hard drive this weekend. I have installed a new HD but I can't find my Leopard installation disk any where.
Is there a way I can download the entire OS from the Apple site?

No. Your Mac if it came with Leopard shipped with operating system discs for Leopard restoring. If you lost your discs, call AppleCare for replacement discs. If you bought your Mac from a non-Apple authorized source, contact them for the discs, and ask them to contact AppleCare for the discs if they lost them. The discs that shipped with the Mac should not be separated from the Mac, and should always be kept in a safe place.

  • Report on memory upgrade

A couple of months back, I posted several questions regarding memory upgrade for my Mini 1.5 Core solo. I thought I would take a couple of minutes and report on the results.
With memory prices dropping like they have, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to 2G. Wow! This is now the computer I thought I bought. I run Mail, Firefox, Excel [PPC], Word [PPC] and Quicken [PPC] - plus Norton AV [PPC] - regularly, and Google Earth, iTunes, iPhoto occasionally. Plus an HP printer [PPC driver]. My Page Outs were running 30-40% of Page Ins for my typical use. I waited for program swapping as well as function swapping within a program.
I now wait for virtually nothing! Page Outs are barely above 0%. Programs load faster, though actual processing appears just about the same [as expected].
I purchased Micron memory from Crucial, as I knew it would be "right". It is now selling for $132/2x1G, free shipping, plus tax in many states. In order to insure no problems with validity of my AppleCare Warr, I had it installed by my local [non-Apple] Authorized Service Center for $45. I justified 2G versus 1G by looking at 2x512M costing me about $113 [installed] to double the memory versus 2G costing me about $177 to quadruple the memory.
As I watch Activity Monitor, it is likely that 1G would have accomplished most of the improvement that I see, but I am NOT sorry I went to 2G now when memory is cheap.
Thanks to all who gave me their advice when I first posted.
MacMini 1.5 Intel Core Solo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just got the 2 GB Upgrade Kit from Crucial for $120 /w free shipping. Came to about $130 after tax.
I purchased a 1.83 Mac Mini with 512 MB of ram and an 80 GB hard drive 3 months ago. I decided it was the best solution for a recent computer failure. Although quite fast especially for CPU intensive tasks the system would hang on particular tasks.
    1) Parallels was virtually unusable (even more so if I had anything else running)
    2) iTunes had problems displaying all of my album covers in the jukebox mode
    3) Protoshop / Painter slow to load
    4) Widgets were slow to load
Having the correct tools for the job, installation of the 2 GB kit was rather simple. I didn’t seat the top SO DIMM correctly the first time around but I was smart to test the system before closing the case.
    Improvement was noticed almost immediately.
    1) Boot times increased
    2) The infrequent Beach Balls disappeared
    3) Parallels is not only usable it’s like having a 2nd computer
    4) iTunes has no hang ups
    5) Photoshop and painter can handle large images with many layers without slowing down. (Large brushes in painter kill the system, but that’s CPU related)
    6) Widgets launch faster but not as quick as I would have expected
Over all the upgrade was completely worth it. It is like a whole new computer. Bottom line 512 MB is the bare minimum for OS X 10.4 assuming you do nothing more then Brows the internet, Chat on line or use it as a media device.
I have a hard time justifying the upgrade through Apple’s site. It’s not worth the $120 premium when instillation should be simple for even an above average computer user. Either way I couldn’t recommend any one use a mini with 10.4 with anything less then 1 GB
