HTML e-mail for watched forum posts

Any chance of sending the forum posts in HTML format? I find the current presentation unappealing, I would prefer an HTML tabular display (wrapping in cell), something like:
Forum:     <...>
Topic:     <...>
Posted By: <...>
When:      <...>
<MESSAGE>
We could also hide the links to the forum and topic behind nicer labels.
BTW, do we award points to answers in this forum?

Hi Scott,
"Unapealing" it is, but that doesn't get it very high on the long requirements list.
To make it more appealing to reward points is higher up there and I think everyone would love to see that.

Bulk HTML E-mail for a small company

I'm looking for a software program that will allow me to send e-mails to my customers. Not just text but include (HTML) graphics. We are small company and would only be sending our 50 or 100 e-mails at a time. Does such a program exist?

I have been having a similar problem with sporadic email delays for my watches. I didn't get any for the past few days, then got a few days worth today. I haven't been changing anything. I suspect if you hadn't turn notifications off then back on again that yours would have resumed like mine did. I use hotmail, but I don't know if that matters.

Test HTML mail for Outlook

I've created documents in Photoshop, saved them for web and posted them to my FTP site to send out blast e-mail messages to my small group of customers. A moderator in the Photoshop group said I should move my discussion to the Dreamweave forum. I'm on OS X.7.3 and tried to preview these every way I can (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera, and coding programs like Taco edit. They all look great. What eludes me is a way to test what a Windows user with Outlook as their client. The results are always bad, when someone replys back saying things were cut off. It looks as if slices get moved around, or overlap. These look amateurish, but not for everyone.
I don't do Windows, so I can't test these myself. Is there an app that mimics how Outlook renders HTML mail? Then comes th epart about fixing it which is a whole new story.

"Outlook" is too vague a term - do you know which version? Outlook 2003 was generally a good email client and then came 2007 onwards which started using Word to render things and everything became messed up.
I see from your code a few things that will help you out and hopefully solve your issues. Best thing is to set up email accounts with Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail which will give you a good idea of what is, and is not working.
add in the widths and heights to each <td> element. It's repetition but you need to specify sizes on both the <td> and <img> elements as different clients use different render techniques.
add in <img style="display:block" /> to any <img> element.
when you link an image, include < a style="border:none" href=""><img /></a>
Services like http://www.emailonacid.com/, and http://litmus.com/email-testing will give you previews but your best to find a friend with Outlook and get them to test it. Alternatively, sign up with an email client like MailChimp (http://mailchimp.com/) who offer this service. Generally there is a charge involved with these services.

I know there are a bunch of posts on HTML e-mails already,
and I've been searching Google all day, but there seems to be a
plethora of tutorials on how to *construct* an HTML email, but very
little on how to actually make an email out of it.
I have outlook 2003, and after inserting my HTML as text, and
it destroys every piece of code. Some might call that "optimizing"
for email, but I don't like programs messing with code when I don't
ask it to. If there's compatability issues I'll work that out
myself!
What solutions are there for doing this kind of integration
with more manual control? Microsoft products scare me in
general--seeing how Word and Outlook handle html. I'd like to find
a program that will make html emails they way I tell it to...I mean
what do the big boys use? I look at say the newsletters from Adobe
and the code seems clean, untouched, and way heavy on
somewhat-advanced css. How do they integrate these e-mails? I doubt
they're loading up Outlook and "inserting as text" their
html...

They probably use a server to send there emails. I have used

Mark for Review Forum Feature hides posts after 5th time

Hi SDN and BPX Forum Aficionados,
The abuse button has another little known feature that has the potential to really improve the quality of forum content.
You mark a post for review by hitting the ! icon, select a category and please add a couple of words why and it gets marked for moderation.
If there are 4 other people that think a post doesn't belong to this forum, the thread automatically goes into hiding until a moderator has time to look at it and can take action accordingly.

The threshold is set to 5 at the moment throughout all forums. Probably it will have to be fine tuned over time depending on how active a forum is.

At the moment the poster doesn't get a message automatically. Once a moderator has looked at it and rejected the post, there is a possibility of an email being sent. We are looking into that.
It is true, we have to explain a bit more about the functionality of the Report Abuse feature.

Looking for HTML e-mail plugin

Does anyone know of a plugin for Dreamweaver that will allow me to produce a webpage as I normally do, but which will export the HTML code suitable for use as an HTML e-mail?

AFAIK there are no plug-ins or extensions for this.

Use inline CSS styles for fonts and background colors. Use Tables to hold your page elements. Use absolute URLs to images on your web server. Give people who can't see your HTML page in their email client a link to the page on server. And as always, send only to opt in addresses and provide a link at the bottom for folks to opt out. In many ways, using an Email Service for campaigns and newsletters is money well spent.

Margin errors in HTML e-mail test

In a previous post, I had asked for help viewing HTML mail campaign pieces and got the suggestion to try Email on Acid. I did and this was a scream to watch. The results for Outlook (every issue) was less than stellar. However, Gmail reveled the worst results. I use OS X Mail and everything looks great there. The test spits out critical errors. One is that Photoshop doesn't supply a <!DOCTYPE> declaration, but that's easy enough to fix. The consistent errors in Outlook were:
MARGINHEIGHT- MARGINHEIGHT attribute is not supported in BODY tags
Line: 7
and
MARGINWIDTH - MARGINWIDTH attribute is not supported in BODY tags

Any ideas what this is and how to fix?

Short answer. Don't use Photoshop or any graphics app to generate HTML code for you.
The code Photoshop generates is deprecated. Change the following
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">
To this:
<body>
Use graphics apps for images only. Use an HTML editor to create your HTML Emails.
FYI: For security reasons, many web mail users don't see graphics. When I look at your HTML Email without images, I see nothing because there is no real text on the page.

Mail for Exchange - calendar sync fails

Hi,
I upgraded recently my N73 with the latest release of the firmware and the latest release of Mail For Exchange.
Before that change, I had no problem to sync my mobile phone with our server Exchange 2007.
Unfortunately, after the upgrades, like many other people of this forum, I cannot succeed in synchronizing my calendar (it seems that my mobile phone is stuck in the endless loop). I've tried the various solutions written in the other posts of this forum but without success (define an end-date of recurring events, no blank event, ...).
Does anyone solved the issue ?

I uninstalled the last release of MfE. I reinstalled an old version (2.05.003) and it worked immediately ! So many people are spending so much time with the last release trying to sync calendar... :-(

You can secure the forum and subscribe group of people to the secure zone , by this only the subscribers will be able to view the forum and reply on posts.
You can also enable moderation for topics with which only approved topics will be visible on your site.

Is there a way to prevent HTML from being displayed in forum in BC to avoid linking to other sites on an eCommerce site?

Unfortunately there isn't a way to restrict customers to post on your forums links to other sites.
However what I suggest here is to choose to moderate each forum post and this way you can choose to approve or remove links from the posts sent by customers.

While I'm at it I am trying to use a DataExpress control from JB2005 to connect to an Access Database (for practice - we have Oracle but I am practicing on Access). I select the driver

then it asks for the URL, it gives me this option in the ...:
jdbc:odbc:MS Access Database
so where do I add the location of the mdb file? I can't get the control to connect. I can connect to Access if I just use code and read/insert rows of data, but I want to use a DataExpress TableDataSet control so I can load it up with rows of data from a database file in a client application. I can load up an html table of data in a servlet for display . But how can I display data the same way in a client app?
Is this forum even the correct forum for me to ask this question - or should I look for a Borland forum?

I have the same problem in Mavericks, but I'd say, more important, with QuickLook.
Indeed Quicklook can't read avi movies anymore. Actually it always been the case, but with Perian we were able to fix it. The problem is that Perian is no longer available for Mac OS 10.9....
I'd assume that our only hope is Apple themselves... It would be nice from Apple to creat an add-on for quicklook to be able to preview the avi movies.
In regards with quicktime, you can download QuickTime 7 here:

and ask all the .avi movies to be played by QuickTime 7 and not QuickTime X (included into Mac OS).

Embedding html in mail to yahoo and gmail.

I have been sending html pages via email to clients through safari/mail contents of page and so on. The pages are on my server. They contain simple images and a flash file. The problem I am having is that I cannot get the pages to view in Yahoo or Gmail. The preferences are set to view images and allow html. Thanks for any help.

Attention must now fall back to the SMTP server you are using as the Outgoing Server -- are you using more than one, and if so please list?
Is the message stored as any other in your Sent mailbox?
