HTML Email - Inline CSS

Hello,
My inline CSS doesnt seem to be working in all eamil clients. Can you tell me what I have wrong with this:

Do as Murray says and remove that part of the style, you don't need it. Sometimes the extra ' will make it quirky. I hope the body of the email is a dark color since your using white text color (#FFFFFF). It should render in most if not all emails.

Oddly enough, when creating HTML emails, you WANT to use inline styled Tables or image maps instead of floats.
Mail Chimp and iContact have some excellent templates and tutorials to help you get started with HTML email campaigns.

Email campaign - inline css - a:link, a:hover

What do people do about setting the color of the a:link and a:hover when setting up a page for email distribution using inline css?
From what I've read you can't declare inline styles for the above mentioned styles?
Is it ok to put those in css <style></style> tags in the head section of the page and just let those email clients that can deal with it do so and forget those that can't, or is there a better alternative?

As to your question most emails use the default but I can see no problem in placing the alternative in a css style sheet.

Ok, that's what I thought. I'll use inline css styling for pretty much everything I can to be on the safe side and just put css that can't be inserted inline in an embedded style sheet. I guess its no big deal if a few email client don't like it.

CSS Button Links in HTML email not working in TB

Greetings,
Our company is creating an html email for customers and we are noticing the CSS button links don't work when viewing in Thunderbird 31 and 32 beta.
Does TB require unique coding to get these to work?
Any assistance would be appreciated...

From the point of view of a user who views received email messages in Thunderbird, it doesn't support scripting. Straight links should work and and you can attach a link to an image.
Note that Thunderbird does NOT offer active links in the Compose window. So however you create it, you won't see it as the recipient does unless you save it and view it as a draft.

Why is my HTML email showing up wrong in different email account?

I've seen this before and I think it has to do with CSS (which I realize isn't supposed to be in emails), but I'm super new to this and have scoured the internet to find out exactly what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it. It shows up properly in my Yahoo acccount, but not in my Gmail accounts (which initially threw it in Spam, if that has anything to do with it). I only know the very basics of HTML and CSS, but still have get this work done and I'm assuming someone will be able to view the code and see what my issue is pretty quick - I hope! It previews in browsers just fine, it's only when I'm click "Forward to a Friend" to send it to myself to test.

So, is it CSS causing this? Are the Tables setup incorrectly? Something not Inline? Not enough info for you? Gmail HATES ME?!
I'm just not seeing it and need to put the question out there while I continue to search for an anwer. Please respond!

Many mail clients reject images, JavaScript and embedded CSS styles. For best results use plain text near the top to communicate your message and give a link to the actual web page on your server.
For mail clients that do have limited support for HTML, use uncomplicated tables and inline CSS rules (inside the body tag).
All that meta data description is a red flag to spam filters. You shouldn't be using meta description or keywords in e-mails.

Help needed with creating HTML email in Dreamweaver

Hi everyone, would really appreciate some help with a dilemma or two that I have.
I have created the following newsletter in Dreamweaver and uploaded it to our website:

Now, when I go into my email mass mailing client (Handymailer) and send a test out, I encounter a couple of problems.
Firstly, in Outlook when I receive the email, the grey table on the right of the eshot, is crushed and a lot of the single line text is forced to go over two lines...
Secondly, in Hotmail, the table displays fine, but it does say that "This message is too wide to fit your screen. Show full message."
Once I click "Show full message" it displays in full, but I then need to scroll across to the middle of the browser to view the email.
If I left align the newsletter will this problem be solved? Or is there a way in Dreamweaver that I can edit the entire page size so that it's not too wide?
The table is 600px wide so I assumed that any email sent out would shrink to this size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is the first full HTML email I have sent out so it's going to be far from perfect!

Make the transparent gif 1px high.
Is it the links in the right column that go onto two lines? If so that could be because the links are wider than the actual column itself..so you will have to make column wider.
If you can't sort it, have a look at the code below, copy and paste into a new Dreamweaver document and test out. Inline css styling is used in the code below. I've masked your email so no spam bots get hold of it.

How to send html email notification in bpel

hi gurus,
i want to send html email notification from bpel.
before, i already successful send html email with attachment, but when i send an email without attachment, then the body message will turn into a plain text.
as i check from the email accepted, email with attachment will have a mime type "text/html" but if no attachment then it will be "text/plain"
from the bpel configuration, by default the mime type already set to "text/html; charset=UTF-8", below is the sample configuration in my bpel process

i think this suppose to be a easy configuration, but i'm not sure whether i miss something in configuration the email process or this is a bugs in bpel.

update, i found a temporary solutions.
so i add a attachment from the process design, and then i change it from the source.

make sure you put the mime type multipart/alternative into the email payload content. by default, when you add attachment, it will generate mime type multipart mixed automatically.
if you don't change it to multipart/alternative, your email will show a attachment, but actually your email doesn't contain any attachment.
and then for the message and mimetype make sure you have that ns10:bodypart, because this email already been set as a multipart email.
when you add attachment, by default it will generate 2 body part, first one is for the body message and the second one is for the attachment. since i only want to use the body message only, then i have to erase the second bodypart
with this workaround, i can send a html email without attachment perfectly.
but i have to take note, when i updating the email process from process design, then the source will be generated again automatically, and the edited one will be replaced.

Hi, I can use UTL_SMTP to send an HTML email ok, but does anyone have an example of how to include an inline embedded image in the email? Thanks!

If you want to send the html page and have it
reference the images and css files on your web
site, that's pretty easy. Just create a message
with text/html content that is your html page.
If you want to include all the images and css files
in your message along with the html page, you'll
need to create a multipart/related message and
you'll need to change all the html to reference the
images and css files using "cid:" references.

HTML Email Rollover question

Hi Guys
I am looking at adding an image rollover to some links on my HTML email, i have read alot on using css but am sure its not supported unless it's inline. my coding knowlege limited so i may not be fully understanding the expliantions given.
basically is there anyway to add an image rollover without using css?

With the exception of GMail, style rules are permitted in the head element, see.

Cross Platform HTML Email Questions

I am creating new html emails from within dreamweaver for use in a service like constant contact. The service I use is COMF5. They have a rudimentary (but nice) WSYIWYG editor so I am giving it a whirl in Dreamweaver.
I first made the mistake of creating a beautiful file in CSS, pasted it in the editor and found divs and info floating all over the place.
I just found an article by an adobe pro on doing this and ZOMG, what a huge help. Here is what I think I underatand and my question:
1. Everything is tables, inclding the background which is created at 98%.
2. The body is to be nested tables.
3. Attributes are to be defined within the table by use of the property bar and not to include creating css rules.
4. The one exception is inline styles created within the boundaries of the table.
5. Important rule is to not have CSS sitting at top of code in document.
My big question at present is, how can I code links to be other than blue and underlined? I would use CSS to do that on my pages.

I'll second what Joey said. Everything inline with email clients. They are too unreliable, especially with Outlook. Constant Contact though can be a pain in that you can't just add links to the email if you want them to be tracked. Search their documentation for the "SimpleURLProperty" tag that they use. If you do not include this, and the code they leave for you in the code view when you import your own code, none of their tracking features will work. And this goes for images as well as text links. Lots of conditions when sending through Constant Contact if tracking is a key. One of the key reasons I have used other services for awhile now.

Allow HTML Editing without CSS

I would like to create some HTML pages without CSS. My Dreamweaver CS5 forces me to setup CSS styles for everything. There are cases when I do not want to do this:
emails with HTML
email ezines
basic FBML coding
I have had many versions of Dreamweaver and been able to do this before. I have been using CSS for past two years, but have the need here and there to do old fashioned HTML. How can I change preferences in Dreamweaver to allow this in design view.

HTML styles are deprecated now. This isn't a Dreamweaver thing, it's a web standards thing. If you want to use HTML to style your code, you'll have to do it manually. A much better option is inline CSS (inside the body tag).
Example of inline CSS:

<p style="color:#000000; font-weight:normal">This text is black and normal.<p>

Best way to prepare HTML email

I would like to survey the group here and get some advice on
creating
HTML-formatted email. Most of the time that I produce it, it
is almost by
accident -- some weird cut-and-paste maneuver from an
existing work. But I
am awash with questions:
- Compose it in Dreamweaver or use Outlook?
- Include photos by URL reference or embed them in the email?
- Use CSS formatting, and if so, reference an external .css
file or embed
styles?
- Various DOs and DON'Ts to insure against being trapped in
spam filters.
Perhaps this is better addressed in the Outlook newsgroup,
and indeed, I
have posed it there, as well. Be that as it may, I would be
most grateful
for any and all advice and/or for being pointed to any good
online articles
on the subject.

Why are my inline css styles for BC tags being ignored and just default to blue underlines?

I am familiar with inline css styling for email campaigns and have always customised links in emails with the code I sent:
however Im puzzled why this code doesn't work with BC tags {tag_viewinbrowser} and {tag_unsubscribe}, any help would
be great as I think the default blue links look ugly.
This is my code: <a href="" style="color:#78787c; text-decoration:underline;">{tag_viewinbrowser}</a>
All other links I have styled appear as they should, its just BC tags where the style seems to be ignored?

You can put <style>span#unsubscribe a{color:red;}</style> code in your newsletter html that can address the DOM that is specific to those links. BC is adding it's own anchor tags for those links so your style isn't touching it. Rewrite your tag to look like this. <span id="unsubscribe">{tag_unsubscribe}</span> . That with the style code will solve your problem.

Using MUSE to create HTML email

I'd like to use MUSE to create HTML email. This requires embedding (or adding inline) the CSS file(s). Any suggestions as to how to accomplish this??

Hello Ben,
It is not possible to add inline styles/CSS within Muse. I would suggest you here to Export your webpages to HTML by clicking on File>Export to HTML and then make the changes manually in the HTML code using some HTML editor.
