HTML link to bookmark in pdf file

Hi everyone,
I use the following suffix on an html link in order to link to a specific page within a pdf file:  #page=15  This works but I need to know go one step further and link to a specific bookmark within the pdf. I use the following suffix to try to do this:  #bookmark name  The above syntax doesn't work because the bookmarks all have spaces in their names. Apparently it's supposed to work if I remove the spaces from the bookmark names but this isn't practical because I'm generating the pdf out of Indesign and the bookmarks in the resulting pdf are just a reflection of the table of contents in Indesign. I can't remove the spaces from the TOC entries just so that there's no spaces in the bookmarks in the pdf.
So I need some sort of workaround and wondered if anyone would have any suggestions. Is there some acrobat script or any other solution to this problem?
Really appreciate any help.

Try %20 instead of spaces. HTML links are URL-encoded, and this is the usual translation of a single space, as for example can be seen in links in Google.
If it works, you can automatically convert the bookmark name to URL format with the function encodeURI ("Every non-alphanumeric character is encoded as a percent escape").

Delta Enterprises said it would contact the customers who bought 600,000 of these cribs to send them additional parts to make the mechanism safer.
+The other 985,000 cribs under recall, made in Indonesia and Taiwan, use safety pegs in the gate mechanism that customers must install.+
+The recall is one of the largest in US history and follows another recall of 2,000 cribs, also made in China, which was issued by the CPSC on Thursday. A five-month-old infant suffocated after being trapped between the mattress and the crib side and prompted the recall Playkids USA cribs.+
    hope i explained clearly.
Please help me.. im struggling lot...
    Thanks in advance.

It is, but only if you do it using a script, not through the built-in "Open a web link"-action. Add a "Run a JavaScript"-action with this code:
    app.launchURL("http://www.google.com", true);
Of course, you can change the URL to whatever you want.

  • Paste the link function in a pdf file in the preview is missing?

Paste the link function in a pdf file in the preview is missing? Please insert again, in Lion he was still there, please help me

Don't think so. If it is it would be in the metadata for the PDF -- ctrl D and select the left most tab. There should be a button for additional data if you want to explore.

  • RE: Bookmarking; can you link to an external pdf file?

Hi, I apologize in advance if this question is stupid; I am very new to using Adobe Acrobat 7 and have not had any training using it, much less creating documents, extracting, linking, etc.
My employer creates PDF files of different documents, then wants to compile them into one new PDF file by extracting the information out of the individual PDF's and bookmark the information imported from each file.
The problem I'm running into is that some of the files are "protected" and I can only view or print them, I am unable to extract pages or copy from them.
It seems the only solution would be to make a bookmark that references the external "protected" pdf file from within the new compiled PDF, but I don't know how to do it.
Also, if anyone has a better solution, suggestion or advice for a better way to build these types of documents, I would be very appreciative of any help!
    Thanks!

    Thanks, George!
I really appreciate everyone's help with this!
(It's helping to keep me employed)
You guys are really nice folks!

  • Acrobat 9.3.4 no longer finds bookmarked non-PDF files (and then launches assoc app)

I produce a documentation DVD consisting of a one-page PDF file of ~ 1400 bookmarks and a lot of content.  The bookmarks point to the content on the DVD which includes pdf files as well as text, DOC, XLS, and other misc. file types, and a large number of html, swf, flv, .jpg, etc. files which make up 4 complete web sites.  The web sites are entirely contained on the DVD (no extermal internet access is referenced or required)
Content is accessed by clicking a bookmark which simply opens the file (regardless of type.)  Prior to Acrobat 9.3.4, appropriate warnings popped up for non-PDF files but if allowed by the user, the appropriate app was launched for the requested file.
Since applying 9.3.4, a "Launch File" warning box pops up showing the file name (which lacks a device) and when the warning's "Open" button is pressed, a Windows error appears with the message "Windows cannot find 'file.txt'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.  To search for a file....  ", and finally an Adobe Acrobat information box pops up and says "Could not open the file 'path/file.txt'  ".
I have read and re-read about launching external apps, restricted urls and attachments, trust manager preferences, etc. etc.  I've added the files to the privileged locations list under the enhanced security settings and on and on.  It no longer works, yet I tested this DVD on several computers just last week and it worked fine. So, as a shot in the dark, I decided to fire up my laptop and test it there again.
Once on, the laptop immediately wanted to update about 12,000 software products but I politely said "No, wait until i test this out!"  The test was successful and the DVD's pdf file worked great again!  At that point I let the machine apply the Acrobat 9.3.4 update (and some uncountable number of Windows patches and fixes.)  It's running a current version of Win7.  After the reboot, i tried the DVD again (under Acrobat 9.3.4) and it failed as described above.  Because of Win7 I was able to revert to acrobat 9.3.2 using System Restore.  After doing that, the DVD worked again.
Most of our user's machines are either Macs or WinXP (current versions) and i haven't had time to figure out if you can even recover from this update under those OS's.  (It says you cannot remove it from XP, however.)  Regardless, even if i can do it for my laptop and get it working again, i cannot do it for all of our users.
So, my question is if i am not doing something wrong, how do i let someone at Adobe know this release is broken??  If i am doing something wrong on the other hand, what is it and how do i get this to work again??
    Thanks all.

Thanks.  I did submit a report at the site.  I hope somebody reads it as this is a big problem for us.
    Thanks again.

  • Hyperlink to a bookmark in PDF file

I have a PDF file included in my project help source.
I have added a hyperlink in a topic to open that PDF file.
That is working fine and no problems.
Is it possible to define a hyperlink wthin a topic to open the PDF and go to a bookmark within the PDF?
Basically what I want to do is this:
Have an FAQ topic that provides a list of frequently asked questions with corresponding answers.
The answer must be short and concise but allow the user to click a hyperlink to get "more information".
Some of the content that is the "more information" for the answer is not in a topic, but in the PDF.
I would like to define a hyperlink within a topic that opens the PDF to a specific place WITHIN the PDF file.
I assumed the place in the PDF must have a bookmark (is there any other way?).
    I have:
Created the bookmark in a Word document.
Added that bookmark as a bookmark when creating the PDF using Adobe Acrobat.
(This is not ideal as it appears in my PDF as extra bookmarks - I will deal with that after I see if this approach will really work)
I tried doing a standard bookmark hyperlink (e.g., DataDefinitions.PDF#HPI Metrics) but the PDF just opens without going to the specific place within the PDF that has the relevant content.
    Is this even possible?
It just seems like it can be, but maybe I am just experiencing wishful thinking.
As always, thanks for any advice/assitance/suggestions.
    Michael F Weart

    Hi Michael.
There are a couple of ways to achieve this. To link to a specific page by number use:
    <a href="http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#page=3">Link text</a>
To link to a named location (destination) use:
    <a href="http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#nameddest=TOC">Link text</a>

  • Link to BookMark in PDF

    Hi All,
We are developing one Dash Board, which is at  Region level. This dashboard do all the calculations at store level.
We are publishing this as PDF through mail. The first page of dashboard is a summary of all stores, with store information and store score. This PDF also have bookmark to stores for that particular region.
Now we need to link from summary (field: store no) to corresponding bookmark page. So the user need not go to bookmark functionality of PDF  to navigate to corresponding store.
    Awaiting for your valuable comments.
    Regards
    Baby

  • Send over HTML-Link an string to PDF with openparameters ?

    Hi,
is it possible to open an 3D-PDF over an HTML-Link and commit the 3D-PDF any strings (I´m not mean a searchstring for the internal searchfunction)?
    Thanks for help !

It's very difficult to explain by words.
I need an help in this forum because I want to make my book(interactive pdf) opens an external application that is a sort of presentation with video and images created in director.
If I try to create an hypertextual link between a button and this file  I don't have the chance to choose it. So I thought to write a script like - launch "start.app"- to make my presentation run ( it happens if I ask the script to run).
But I wonder: - how can I make this event happen only  when I ask to my project to do it?-
For example: I am reading my book on adobe digital edition and at the end of the third chapter, there is an image.  I mouse up and I understand it's a button. When I click on, it opens a new window with my presentation running and I watch it. At end I quit and I keep on reading my book on Adobe digital edition.
    Have you an idea?
I hope I have explained it much better?!?!

  • Need help linking to an external PDF file

How can I create a link inside my robohelp project that links to a PDF file that has NOT been copied into the project. I am looking for a link with a relative path in the event the files may someday need to be moved.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Microsoft's HTML Help documentation includes a script with which you can link to an external file. See:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms644690(vs.85).aspx
This opens the external file in the topic pane of the Help viewer. If you'd rather open the file in its native application (Acrobat or Adobe Reader, in your case), you'd need to use a script like this one:

  • How do I create a downloadable link from an Interactive PDF file created out of InDesign CS6?

    Hello,
I created an Interactive PDF file out of InDesign and would like to make the large file a downloadable link and share it with the user in an email. I do not want to use DropBox or GoogleDrive.
The company I contract for has their own site - do I insert the file into the site or can I create a separate link for it?
I will be recreating these presentation PDF's constantly, so I would like to know if there is a simple way to create this link for files in the size of 7-12MB.
Any ideas on downloadable links? I do have flash - but rarely use, perhaps load the file out of flash?
Thank you so much for your help,
    Megan

    Hi Willie,
Thanks for your help. Most likely contact the company who maintains the
site then to share the file with them I'm assuming?

  • Clicking a .pdf link does not open .pdf file, it opens a SAVE DIALOG box

Recently when I click on a .pdf file link I am no longer able to open the file in a adobe reader either within a FIREFOX webpage or open it using the full adobe program. Instead it opens a SAVE dialog box requesting me to save to my harddrive. I am not sure what has happened and am trying to find someone who might know what is going on?

You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • On some sites when I click a link to upen a pdf file Mozilla opens a new tab and nothing happens. Why is this happening?

When the new tab opens in the address bar it shows About:Blank. If I switch to the IE engine it will download the PDF file without any problems so I'm wondering why Native Mozilla is having this problem opening the PDF file. It's a real hastle switching engines, especially when I'm logged into something like a bank web page because I have to re-log in to the site a second time as switching engines cancels my original log-in.

Couldn't it also be the way Mozilla processes things which differ from IE? It works every time I use the IE engine add on which tells me that either Mozilla is processing things differently or that IE is doing something different. I've heard that IE doesn't always follow the same HTML standards that Mozilla does. Could this be the difference and would it be something that Mozilla could change to process the same as IE?

  • How do you create a link to download a PDF file?

I'd like to create links so that when clicked, a PDF file associated with the link will automatically be downloaded. I've created a folder where I've stored all of the PDF files, but where on my web host do I put the folder--is it part of the published iWeb folder or should it be kept separate? (I'm using a 3rd party web host, Lunarpages.com)
Second, to create the links, I've written "Download Page" on for each link, highlighted the words, then enabled it as a hyperlink with the inspector. However, this changes "Download Page" to the name of the PDF file. How can I keep the words "Download Page" without changing it to the name of the file? Also, is this the correct way to have a PDF file automatically downloaded when "Download Page" is clicked?
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi there,
While I do not use iWeb, I do use PDF files on my website.
I first create a new folder to hold my PDF files and upload this to my website. When I create and upload PDF files I will upload to this folder. When someone wants to view this files, all they need to do is click on the link I created. After clicking on link, if the user is on a PC, Acrobat Reader is automatically used to view the file or if they are on a Mac, Preview is usually the default viewer (if the they are using Safari, it will simply open in Safari). Just having the extension on yourfile.pdf will cause this and you will not need to do anything else on your end.
FOR EXAMPLE: Download Sample PDF - try it on different browsers and PC's
As far as 'download page', it automatically starts as soon as you click on link. If you are talking about 'saving' the user will always have that option on their end...
