HTML Spacing Puzzle

Greetings,
I'm having trouble with a page that is rendering differently
in DW8 and IE6.
In DW8, the white area appears continguous, as I wish the
final page to render.
But when I hit 'F12' and view it in IE, there appears to be a
blank line between the 'navbar' at the top and the main content of
the page.
You can download the entire page (code, CSS and art) here:
http://www.sportsmogul.com/content/html_puzzle.zip.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Clay

I'm afraid your code is shot to buggary. You have code
outside closing
tags and in some instances no closing tags at all.
I've repaired your nav table and main table (code below). The
gap is now
gone. You may want to use the structure and re-insert your
other tables
which contain the listings.

• Data transfer very slow on mac pro!! mac H/W unable to fit specifications.

Hi,
I am installinginternal disks on the quad mac pro and the transfer ratet in the mac are very slow!!!
the disks are: barracuda 7200.10 disks, 500 GB. Sta II 300, max ST3500630AS firmware 3.AAE . throughput:300mb.jumpred off to get the 300.
MAC tells that the QUAD MAC Pro equipment (2x2.66ghz dualcore intel xeon) comes with a 3.Gigabit specification/ 300MB/sec. (Intel ESB2 AHCI, speed: 3.0 Gigabit. AHCI version 1.10 supported)...
And the benchmarks of the disk ST3500630AS show maximum 80MB/sec and a minimin of 37.3MB/sec, average 63.1 MB/sec. (anandtech tests).
According to seagate.com the maximum sustained data transfer rate:78MB/s
but in the mac the reallity is different: I am getting a transfer rate of 22MB/sec!!!!! . with out any application running and only making copy of the files!!!!
that means that the mac is only providing only 1/3 of the expected transfer rate for the disks..
so, is there a way that the MAC Pro gets all the normal transfer rate for those disks???
Is the Quad MAC Pro hardware unable to get the maximum throughput of the disks???
It seems that the mac is unable to get also the average transfer rate of those disks.. how to correct it???
thanks a lot
Alberto
ps. just for fun: I am getting a faster transfer rate from an old power pc ,and old pc, and firewire 400 and old ide disks!!! (36MB/seg!!!)

Yup.
BThe latest Mac Pro are better, so if you have a new or 2 month old unit, Seagate should work, though I think there should be later firmware.
Some would say those drives take the cake or woRSe.
http://www.barefeats.com/hard91.html
SEAGATE PUZZLES
+Firmware version 3.AEE or later solves the slow sustained large block write speed issue for a single 7200.10 inside the Mac Pro.+
+The remaining performance issue is slow small random read speeds for one, two, three or four drives. No matter how many drives you configure in RAID 0 sets, the average random read speed for combined block sizes from 64K to 1024K is less than 30MB/s (based on QuickBench 3 testing).+
+Until Seagate fixes this, we can't recommend the 7200.10 series as the ideal boot drive for the Mac Pro (or Power Mac).+

• Form tag height cont.

Can anyone please tell me why these two pages are being
rendered so differently in IE than in FF and Safari?? The issue is
the search box form tag on the right side of the dark teal nav bar
in the header area. If I take that out, the spacing is fine in all
three browsers. When I put IN the form tag, despite fussing with
alignment and such, it pushes that table row too high only in IE.
It's still fine in Safari and Firefox.
Spacing is fine on this one without the search box:
http://www.energeticnutrition.com/contact-testlvh2-2.html
Spacing is too tall on the teal bar in this one with the
search box, only in IE.
http://www.energeticnutrition.com/contact-testlvh2-2.html
Any help...please??? :-)
Thanks!

I see you have it sorted now, but one thing you should also
have done is
to remove the style information from the query input field,
as those
styles will override any style you set in the styles I gave
you. You
also had the style display: inline on the form which I said
to remove.
You also didn't give the form an id. The above code looks
like you
didn't try any of my suggestions, but I am glad someone else
found
another solution for you.

Hello Gurus,
has anyone come across this please?
I have successfully made Iviews visible to KM for web page composer and so I was able to drag and drop the iview onto the page but immediately got a 404 the requested resource is not available.
the iview has end user read permissions so I dont think it's a permission problem.
thanks for any advice,

Hi Epexpert,
I have already looked at the log files. You get this message which is puzzling:

• Java-based jigsaw program in my own computer no longer runs

I don't write or understand Java programs. I have, from the original writer, the Jigsaw puzzle routine used by Castlemountains, in my own desktop, for when my internet, or Castlemountains, is not workng. It worked great for a long time, and suddenly it will not. I get an empty box, with a message that says "Error: Click for Details". Doing so produces "Access denied ("Java.io.FilePermission" "\C:\Documents and Settings\Connie\MyDocuments\JigsawCG\imagename2.jpg" "read").
I have tried the Exception list in the Security Settings in the Java Control Panel, which has worked for the web puzzles and another site I use. But, since this isn't a website, it doesn't seem to work. Or I am entering the wrong information. I've tried an many combinations of the above lines as I can think of, from all to any single " " section, to portions of them. So far, I still cannot do the puzzles in my desktop, and the internet was down last month for 2 weeks (due to lightning hitting my outside phone box and AT&T being short of repair crews). I hope there is a solution to this -it's terribly frustrating.

I think it's more related to the Java plug-in. The same thing happens in IE.
Now that I have added numerous exceptions to the Java list, I can do the puzzles at the Castlemountains website on my desktop IF my internet connection is working, and I can do them in my laptop IF it is where it can access my wi-fi (or any wi-fi). However, this is not always the case, and that is when I really need it to work. I only need to be connected to start the puzzle at Castlemountains. After that, It runs without an internet connection.
What I have is the same routine the website uses, but I got it from the fellow who wrote it, not from Castlemountains. It consists of a file called "puzzle.jar", another called "index.html", and an image file that I choose myself. Also a file with instructions for changing settings (for a different image of my own). When I dbl-click "index.html", the puzzle opens in the default browser. It always worked until one of the more recent updates to either the browsers or to Java. When I needed it, of course, was when my internet was out, so I couldn't research it for a couple of weeks.
I hope this is more help to you. All the answers I find on Google seem to be people building websites. They give me lots of Java code (I think) and I don't understand it enough for it to be useful to me.
Thanks!

• Irregular spacing between entries on main page (BLOG.html)

Hi--
Why does the spacing between entries on the main BLOG page (blog.html) differ according to how long the entry is?
If the 'header sections' are the same size, why is their appearance on the main blog 'index page' different sizes?
I.e., if the contents of an entry exceed the template size, there is excessive blank space below that entry's header and the previous entry(below)--even if the 'header sections' are the same size.
Is anyone from Apple on these forums???
Thx,
Steve

At last...something I know an answer to...
when you are in iweb and have the blog main page open click on inspector and the the RSS tab.
Select blog from the blog / podcast options and then the number of excerpts to show option is there, the excerpt length option is another great feature.
hope this helps.

• Setting tabs or spacing in HTML files?

Is there a way to format text in HTML files that are output from Labview?
I am trying to make a report and find that setting up strings with the concatenate (even tabs and spaces) doesn't seem
to be very WYSIWYG...
For example, I have the following VI that I have tried with spaces and tab tokens with no success to set my text output
to a nice format. The concatenate seems to trim spaces even in the middle of the field as the following line is printed like
this:
PASS/ FAIL- -TEST NAME where I would expect it to be more like: PASS/ FAIL- -TEST NAME
I have also tried the "Set The Report tab Width" feature and this doesn't seem to set the tabs when I use the tab tokens in place of the spaces shown in my VI.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

In HTML, multiple spaces is interpreted as one space.
Use as one space character.
Thanks-
Is there a way to specify more than one or do I need to feed 4 of these into the concatenate to produce 4 spaces on the HTML output?

• Spacing Issues when making PDF of HTML file

I am making changes to a website and need to convert an html file into a pdf file (for easy printability on the website). When I try to create the PDF file (in Acrobat) by opening the HTML file, it does not keep the same formating. Anyplace there is a picture on right hand side of the page, the wording to the left of the picture drops to below the picture and I need it to stay next to the picture.
Any suggestions? Thanks

You might also have to change the paper size before you print. Keep in mind that HTML has a floating format and typically looks different on different machines.

• 2x spacing in HTML editor

Using the HTML editor, whenever enter is hit, it creates what looks like a 2x space.
How can enter be keyed so that the 2x space not appear but only a single space appears without using shift-enter?
Thanks

Hi,
Use html tags to avoid this type of issue i.e. - {div}This is division{div}{p}This is paragraph{p}{ul}{li}This is un-ordered list{li}{ul} etc.
Replace {} with < and >.
Hope this helps.

• Spacing Issues and You Tube embed not playing in IE8, OK in Chrome or Safari

There are spacing issues (makes the website pages look like they are puzzle pieces) on all the webpages in
IE8, but in Safari and Chrome the website works fine. Same for the You Tube embed.
My wife did the layout of the website in Ilustrator and then transfered over the design to Dreamweaver CS3
(she's a graphic designer - I stopped asking questions long ago). Since she uses a Mac, it looked fine to her
in Safari. She took it to her work computer (PC) and tried to see if there were any issues detected when viewing in CS5
and she said it was fine.

• Can no longer open NY Times puzzles: "puz could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred.?

Since updating Firefox, I can no longer open the NY Times daily/Sunday puzzle in the program used for crossword puzzles. Older puzzles sall open.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
* Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded

• [SOLVED] Puzzled: Web site visible on network but not outside network

Edit: Ok, nevermind . . . somehow the problem has resolved itself. Perhaps my ISP was having a bad hair day or something.
I'm puzzled by this small problem I'm having. It is NOT a critical problem or anything, just something I'd like to solve.
I've installed the LAMP packages, set up a small MySQL database and made a very simple web interface for it. The web pages open fine on my main computer and all the other computers on our network, but it is not visible outside our network.
I am behind a router and I have forwarded port 80 to my local IP. I've set httpd: ALL, http: ALL and (finally) ALL: ALL: ACCEPT in /etc/hosts.
I got to thinking maybe my ISP (RoadRunner) is blocking port 80 requests to my home, so I changed the port to 9292 and forwarded that to my local IP. Still not visible from the outside.
I've tinkered with the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file (pasted in below) but still there is no outside connectivity, changing the listen settings and the server name settings. I can still access it fine from this side of the router. I've restarted the httpd service many times.
I've done all I can think to do to solve the issue. it is likely I am overlooking something very basic. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Below is my httpd.conf.
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 192.168.1.100:9292
#Listen *:9292

You could try a factory reset of the home hub, as sometimes the config can get corrupted.
