HTMLLoader Scrollbars

I'm working in Flash and have added an HTMLLoader to a
movieclip via actionscript. I can't seem to figure out how to add
scrollbars. The content is clearly bigger than the window, and the
content scrolls if you drag it.
What I've ended up doing is adding the HTMLLoader to a
ScrollPane. It's working, but I'm guessing at the height in order
to show the vertical scrollbar.
I feel like I'm missing something here. Is there a better way
to do this?
Dave

You're probably looking for these:
HTMLLoader.contentWidth
HTMLLoader.contentHeight
which will give you the width/height of the content in your
HTMLLoader, rather than the dimensions of the HTMLLoader object
itself.
In my experience, mousewheel vertical scrolling seems to be
enabled by default for HTMLLoaders. Adding scrollbar functionality
is just a case of using your content height/width values in
conjuction with your scrollbar dimensions, which can be updated
with an
Event.MOUSE_MOVE event listerner, initiated after an
Event.MOUSE_DOWN event on your scroll button.

• HTMLLoader and Scrollbars

I've been following the lynda.com AIR for Flash Devs
tutorial. It shows how to add the Scrollbar Class to an HTMLLoader.
Is it just me, or is Adobe's Scrollbar a rather odd
implementation?
I mean it works, but, for instance, the scroll handle you
grab with your mouse is always much much smaller than it should be
when compared to the actual content.
Also, I have the stage resizing and the scrollbars moving
properly, but I've noticed that resizing the app smaller, always
forces the scrollbar to appear, regardless of the content being
larger than the content area or not.
Is everyone using this implementation for scrolling, or are
people using something else?

OK - my problem with the HTML Control is I can't seem to add it to a child custom class.
i.e. - I have my main Air app and a custom class extending UIComponent. I add the custom class to the stage in the main app, and in the custom class, add an HTML Control. I'm also adding a different HTML Control to the main app.
Only the HTML in the main app actually shows up. No errors given. What am I missing here?

• HTMLLoader, main application window and scrollbars

If I instantiate HTMLLoader with "new HTMLLoader.createRootWindow()," scrollbars show up correctly when text overflows the set width and height. I can add it to the stage, but I'm still left with an empty popped up native window
If I instantiate HTMLLoader with simply "new HTMLLoader()," you can add it to the stage, but it doesn't include scrollbars when the window overflows with text.
What I want to do is incredibly simple - create a new HTMLLoader instance, have as part of my main application's stage, and get the benefit of the built-in scrollbars. Why is that so difficult?

• HTML Frames not using custom scrollbar in Flex 3 mx:HTML

I've been working on an app that uses a custom skin in Flex 3. The app has a help window. The help contains an HTML with frames. Problem is, the main app vertical scrollbar custom skin is being ignored for the HTML Frames scrollbar (what looks like the classic version of Halo - maybe). This only happens with frames. It happens no matter how or where I place my HTML or HTMLLoader. If I dont have frames the custom scrollbar is used. Is there a node im missing in my skin css (obviously not VScrollBar or ScrollBar - the two standard used by Flex)? or some other way to connect the HTML Frames scrollbar to my custom skin.
I'm not a noob but not an expert.

• New Window, HTMLLoader.loadString image problem

Hello,

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Andrew

Add the following code before you call loadString():
htmlLoader.placeLoadStringContentInApplicationSandbox = true;
By default, content added via loadString() is not in the application security sandbox (and it cannot load images from the application directory). By setting this property to true, loadString() content is placed in the application security sandbox.
For more information, see the property's description in the language reference:

• How do you use AIR's WebKit/htmlloader?

Hi everyone,
A long standing issue in AIR has been the inclusion of an older version of WebKit. The request to update this library has come up many times in the forum and is in the top 10 on the community driven Uplist feature page. As with the recent and ongoing physics discussion, we're not committing to any changes purposed below at this time, as we're purely in an investigation mode at this time. We realize that this is an important feature and we need further clarification on what you're looking for. Please read on for questions from our development team.
We are exploring updating WebKit, but due to our modification of the WebKit source, this will be difficult, and updating WebKit will change the HTML DOM, possibly breaking content authored for our existing DOM.
So we are also exploring leaving HTMLLoader alone, for now, but providing a reasonable alternative.
StageWebView was originally written as a replacement for HTMLLoader on mobile (because we could not use our WebKit on mobile, StageWebView took advantage of the browser provided by the platform).
But it was extended to the desktop as an unsuccessful solution to this problem.
On mobile, content was probably newly written (so it could be tested with StageWebView), and the browsers were similar enough to our WebKit that the DOM impact was minor.
But on the desktop, forcing older content written for our WebKit to run on Internet Explorer 8 (as an example) was a disaster due to the differences in the DOM’s. We resolved this by making HTMLLoader versus StageWebView on the desktop a choice.
Which gets to the questions (for desktop development only).
Which is more attractive, an embedded web browser or using the system browser? Is it valuable to provide both?
For instance, using the native browser can save on code size (perhaps 6 MB), but you must create and test portable HTML, and you face the risk that future updates to the system browser breaks your content.
How much interop do you need between AS and JS?
Hearsay suggests another problem with StageWebView is there is no interop between ActionScript and JavaScript, whereas HTMLLoader had a lot of support.
Would StageWebView be sufficient if it exposed an ExternalInterface, or sandbox bridge, level of functionality? For instance, if AS could register a list of functions which could be called from JS (and vice versa), would that be enough? Or is there something else that HTMLLoader does that is essential?
For instance, one of the ideas being explored is to provide an entirely new class (perhaps as an ANE) which links an unmodified version of the latest WebKit source as a static library. By using unmodified source, we can more readily update to newer versions of WebKit. As well, if we leave the existing classes unchanged, we don’t risk breaking existing content. But if we use unmodified WebKit source, we may find some of HTMLLoader’s functionality impossible to match, which is why I’m interested in understanding the essential functionality, so we can decide if a sufficient, minimal (so it’s easier to support without customizing Webkit) interface for it.
Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris,
Thank you for reaching out to the community! Our team has been working on AIR apps for a while now. It has been frustrating to say the least, trying to integrate sophisticated HTML5 apps into our different AIR apps.
The existing solutions on mobile and desktop are not very satisfying. Mobile has gotten better because of the StageWebView, but there are still several flaws that make the platform unpredictable. On desktop it is even worse and we are facing a tough decision.
We want to integrate an HTML5 app into an already existing AIR app. The two applications will have to communicate in some form with each other. The StageWebView approach with a simple ExternalInterface would suffice, as long as we could pick from the browsers that are installed. The ANE class approach also sounds good, but only if there is a similar way of communication.
We think that keeping the component (WebView or ANE class) as lean as possible is one of the most important things. We don't want to face the same issues in the near future. There is also a need to update that underlying layer fast. Browser vendors (with some exceptions of course ) have much faster release cycles nowadays. They will keep pushing the boundaries and we need to adjust accordingly.
The HTML5/JS should take care of the DOM manipulation, event handling and communicate back to Actionscript in a simple way. There is no need for Actionscript to worry about these things. And if there is, create a simple JS layer using the interface to do the job.
Here is a list of features that are essential to us:
Accessing the local file system (xhr requests on the local file system):
Worst case scenario: Using the ExternalInterface to feed files to the HTML application.
Configure the cache or at least manipulate cache handling
Much better HTML5 / CSS3 support: Video, Audio, SVG, CSS3 Animations, etc.
Easier and faster way to update the underlying WebKit/Chromium (relevant for ANE)
Are there any plans yet? Is it on your roadmap? Are we talking about years or months? Answers to these questions are very crucial for us. Only with those answers will we know, whether we can keep working on the AIR platform or if we have to look for alternatives and migrate our entire application.
We are looking forward to your answers.
Thanks

• Label display issue in Tree component when it is having vertical scrollbar

I am using tree component as dropdown factory for combo box. When i open dropdown, it doesn't have vertical scrollbar and all the root nodes are getting displayed correctly(in closed mode). Now if i try to open any node, i am getting vertical scrollbar as the child nodes are more. Now the problem is if scroll down, some of the nodes(labels) are not getting displayed but i am able to see the icon. If i keep on scrolling bottom to top and top to bottom, some of the nodes are showing labels and some are not(It is inconsistant).
I have not used any custom item renderer for tree control. I used my custom dataDescriptor which i have implemented from ITreeDataDescriptor. Also I tried extending DefalutDataDescriptor, but no luck.

Does it work if the tree is not in a combobox?

• How to add vertical scrollbar to a tree region

Hi,
I have a page containing two regions. The first is a tree region displayed on the left hand side of the page. The second is form region displayed to the right of the tree, showing details relating to the selected node from the tree.
How can I add a vertical scrollbar to the tree, so that I can I browse all nodes in the tree without affecting the position of the form? Currently, if my tree extends beyond the height of the page I have to use the page vertical scrollbar to view the bottom of the tree. This obviously means that the form is no longer in view.
Thanks
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
You can't add a scrollbar directly to the region's contents, but you can wrap the contents within a DIV tag.
In the Region Header add in:
<DIV style="height:500px; overflow:auto">
In the Region Footer add in:
</DIV>
Obviously, change the height value to suit your needs.

Andy

Hi all. I am trying to get pictures to pop up in a box when

Hi,
The 5D mark III requires ACR 6.7 or higher - PSE 9 can only goes as far as ACR 6.5.
You need to update to a newer version of PSE or use the free DNG converter to turn the CR2 files into DNGs which can then be read by PSE9.

• How can I allow a user to control my Edge Animation using only the scrollbar?

I have seen a few examples of an Edge Animation being conrolled by the scrollbar, and I am wondering how I could achieve the same effect.
Example:
http://dominikruckli.ch/scrolltest/scrolltest.html
I have searched the corners of the internet and have found 2 or 3 different tutorials, but none of them have proven successful.
In basic terms, I am creating an animation that involves a character getting from Point A to Point B, from the beginning of my timeline to the end.
Rather than exporting my animation so that it plays automatically, by itself, I would like for a user to scroll vertically, and the playing of the animation moves in conjunction with the scroll bar.
As the user scrolls from top to bottom on the scrollbar, the character in my animation moves from Point A to Point B.
Also, if the user stops scrolling... the character will stop moving as well.
In addition, I would like the surrounding area, outside of my stage, to remain hidden. I do not want to allow the user the ability to scroll around and see off of my designated stage area. I only want the scroll bar to act as a playhead for the animation.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Note:
If you have special CSS (or other form of Code), please provide specific instructions on how to insert this code, where it should be located, what part(s) of the code should be altered, and any additional instructions on how to apply any form of coding. (Screenshots would be amazing)

Never mind. I figured it out myself. I changed the myComp.play("scenefour"); to myComp.getStage().play("scenefour"); and it worked fine.

To disable the horizontal scrollbar and to create a next button to navigate through the records. At present I create a JSF page and drag and drop my table view and then using the Tuning property I have limited the number of records to be shown. But I need to add a button and then code it to display the next few records. Can someone kindly suggest a suitable mechanism to get this accomplished.

Hi Erp,
At present these are the entries that I have in my JSPX page.
I have a Table, Iterator and a Input List of Values. As per the scenario, I want a few rows to appear on the table for which I wanted to disable the horizontal scroll bar and then once I click on the list of values it must prompt me with the remaining page numbers.
Earlier there are about 150 records in the table. I want to show them as 15 per page.
For which I have added the Iterator and a LOV component code in my JSPX page.
<af:iterator id="i1"
value="#{bindings.NsEventDetailsView1.collectionModel}"
var="row"
binding="#{pageFlowScope.testPageBean.myIterator}"/>
<af:inputListOfValues label="Label 1"
popupTitle="Search and Result Dialog" id="ilov1"/>
Then I created the bean class as per the example.
Below is the bean class:
import javax.faces.event.ValueChangeEvent;
import oracle.adf.view.rich.context.AdfFacesContext;
import org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.component.UIXIterator;
import org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.event.AttributeChangeEvent;
public class TestPagebean {
public TestPagebean() {
public void i1ov1_valueChangeListener(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
// Add event code here...
private UIXIterator myiter;
public void setI1(UIXIterator myiter) {
this.myiter=myiter;
public UIXIterator getmyiter() {
this.myiter=myiter;
public UIXIterator setmyiter() {
return myiter;
UIXIterator valueIterator = getmyiter();
if (!valueChangeEvent.getNewValue().equals(valueChangeEvent.getOldValue())) {
int newPage =
Integer.parseInt(valueChangeEvent.getNewValue().toString());
int pageStart = (newPage) * valueIterator.getRows();
valueIterator.setFirst(pageStart);
AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(valueIterator);
But i am getting errors in the bean class.
1. Block expecting }
2. public UIXIterator getmyiter() {
this.myiter=myiter;
Return Statement missing
3. Block expecting {
4. Type or variable 'valueChangeEvent' not found
5. Method 'getNewValue' not found
6. Method 'getOldValue' not found
7. Method 'toString' not found
Can you suggest a possible solution?

• How do you add a Vertical scrollbar to a JTextArea?

How do you add a Vertical scrollbar to a JTextArea? This is what I've tried so far but it hasn't worked. I got that off of someone asking a similiar question here.
aTextArea = new JTextArea(10, 40);
JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(aTextArea);
aTextArea.setText( " " );

JScrollPane(component)
this constructor will only show the scrollbar (vertical and/or horizontal) as needed..so, if the scrollpane viewport is larger than the component, then it will not show the scrollbar.
you can force the scrollbar to alway show
setHorizontalScrollBarPolicy(int policy)
setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(int policy)
