Http mail on the Mac
Does anyone know if a Universal Binary version of the 'http mail plugin' that let's you view Hotmail through Mac Mail is avaliable yet...?? If not, does anyone know when it will be avaliable...??
I'm currently running it ok through Rosetta... if a little slow. Hangs at times.
It looks like they are working on one. However in doing some research it also looks like Microsoft will be killing what makes this able to work, and also in the future completely disabling even all the granfathered in POP hotmail users.
I would suggest you get your hands on a gmail invitation. That way you don't have to run a plug in at all, and you still have a web based option if you need it. If you need an invitation code, you can now do it via mobile phone.
I know it's a pain to change email accounts, but you can always forward all the ones sent to the hotmail, or keep using it and change your reply to address for a few months to get everyone used to it.

Hi everyone, I have a macbook pro from 2008 which is the model before they became unibody. I have been having trouble using some of the built-in apps ever since i updated to 10.7.4. I cant use mail or the Mac App store becuase when i go to click on a link to purchase something in the Mac App Store of create a new email in Mail, the app just crashes. I am then asked to reopen the app and i try to do the same thing again and they same thing happens. Its really painful as i want to download applications and access my mail on my mac. Could you guys please get back to me on with somethings that i could try to get these apps working again.
ThanksHi Richard,
these are the things for when mail quits
here are the things that come from the console app

To get mail to access my exchange email I have to use a private smtp server as the passing in the settings for our actual exchnage server have never worked. But that does at least work. With iCal I have never been able to access my exchange calendar. It accepts the login and appears to connect but the calendar can never be refreshed so is non-functional.
Contrast that to my iPad where I just put in my email user and pwd (for the same account as above) and both mail and calendar are fully functional (or at least so far). This is appearently due to cal and mail on iPad using OWA for everything but fetching mail. Why oh why is this approach not taken on the mac?John Galloway wrote:
OK, I'll bite. What are these "full desktop" facilities that you don't get on the iPad? (I have been using email for as long as its been around pretty much, but just started using email/cal on the iPad).
You're still missing the point. The iPad uses the same code for the mail and calander apps as the iPhone. So the code was already baked in when the iPad was released. Thus "simple" to have the iPad connect to Exchange 2003. Apple didn't start supporting Exchange the the OSX apps until after that and for whatever reason, decided to only go with the Exchange 2007 protocols. Different programs and different capabilities.
I have never seen the innards of OSX Mail or IOS Mail
Not necessary to see the code for the apps specifically. But if you've ever written any apps, particularly under a large bureaucratic environment where there are many cooks in the kitchen, you'd know what I meant when I said "...What you think can be "carried over" is a substantial rewrite to Mail and iCal. I'm not saying it's not possible, just that it ain't as simple as you think...."
What Apple product is competing with exchange server for email? Sure you can run an email service on OSX...
You've just answered the question. Apple does sell a email server product and they did have MobileMe, soon to be iCloud. Exchange is a competing product.
...but there is pretty much 0 corporate presence of Apple servers (servers not clients) as far as I know. And sure exchange 2003 is old hat, but what percentage of clients still connect to one?
And you know that "zero" figure for sure? Like you know for certain exactly how many (or little) Exchange 2003 servers are still in use? I never said that there were NO Exchange 2003 servers in use. (I have a client still on one, so I know for a fact that it is not zero.) My point was that Apple made a decision whether to spend the time, $$$ nd effort to add in an additional feature to their existing Mail and iCal OSX apps, which uses a different protocol, to a competing product, that is not a new product and is more than one version out and that already has a specific EOL date from the manufacturer (April 2014.) Again, I specifically state that it's not a technical reason that it can't be done. But if you don't understand that it's more likely to be that someone saw the ROI wasn't there, then you likely will never understand.
(You will, of course, want the last word. Please go ahead. I have already given you answers, regardless of your acceptance of their correctness.) -
2 different people using mail on the mac - can't we separate this?
can someone please help me with this?
Can my wife and I each have maybe a different icon to click on to get our email on the mac?
we both have mobile me accounts - but can't we have separate mail icons or does everything have to come into a common inbox and then we have to make sure that we are sending from the right account etc? i'm so confused. you'd think this would be easy? help?If you open a Finder window there should be a blue-shaded column on the left with headings Devices and Places. Under the Places heading you should see your home folder and an Applications folder. iCal and Address Book should be in there. If you see no Applications folder under Places click on your hard disk under Places, where Applications should be the first-listed item. For convenience, drag the iCal and Address Book applications to the Dock.

I have recently installed parallels on my Macbook and created my existing email account within outlook express which has all emails but by doing this it has removed all emails from Mail on the Macbook. I don't won't to delete from outlook then find I have lost them forever. I'm just trying to find out how I can get them back to their original place in Mail.
Any help would be great.Hello,
If has more than one account, the Inbox icon, for example, should have a black triangle if the accounts have been correctly added via the assistant. If that triangle is pointing sideways, then he clicks on it, it should turn downward, and reveal the Inbox for each account. If he does not have but the one account, then the Inbox should be that of the AOL account. Same with Sent Drafts, etc.
If the triangle beside Inbox reveals other folders such as Sent Items, click to open that, and then click Mailbox in the menubar, place cursor on Use this Mailbox for and choose Sent.
AOL is IMAP access, so can be tricky. The folders under AOL lower in the Sidebar are for other archiving. AOL only allows messages to stay in the Inbox and Sent folder for 27 days, and then you must Move the messages to the Saved folder to keep longer on the server. Of course, various On My Mac mailboxes can be created to save messages, and those will be on the hard drive of his Mac.
In Mail 2.x and OS 10.4.10 there is no longer a separator for On My Mac in the Sidebar, but is with 10.3.x and Mail 1.3.x
This may or may not be such a good idea to have switched him without being in front of his computer to provide some instruction

Mail read on iPhone doesn't appear in Mail on the Mac
This is probably a newbie issue, but I can't find any way to resolve it in FAQs etc.
When my wife opens and reads an email message on her iPhone, that message then does not appear in her inbox on our Mac.
Can anyone tell me how to resolve this?
Is it a matter of setting up the mail account separately on the iPhone.
Many thanks for any advice.
ScottReading a recieved message with a POP account with one email client by itself does not prevent the message from being downloaded and read with another email client. The iPhone's Mail client does not include an option for removing messages from the server when downloaded with a POP account as is available with an email client on your computer such as the Mail.app.
A problem with a POP account is only one email client at a time can access the incoming mail server for new messages and download any new messages. If a 2nd email client attempts to do this while another email client is doing the same, the 2nd email client will be temporarily locked out by the incoming mail server. -
I cannot get my mail through the mac mail icon on my desktop,
I am having trouble getting my email on my mac through the mail application. I have to go online all the time & log in to get my mail. It says my accounts are offline. I really need my email to work the way I know how to!!
iCloud Mail requires you to have Lion 10.7.2. Is this what you have? (Please always post your system when you have a question).
If you have an earlier system you will have to set mail up manually for iCloud email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger -
What is the best program for mail on the Mac?
I have .Mac and use the default mail. I am diluged by spam that I keep deleting and trying to remove myself from their list. I don't see any way to Bounce messages back. Also, I can't seem to see where i can view my sent messages.
Any advice?jrobb,
In regard to your sent mail, Saving copies of email you send, and Mac 101: Mail may be helpful.
Bouncing messages is a waste of time, because it only confirms to the sender that your email address is valid.
List removal is only useful for trustworthy companies. Any others will once again benefit from the fact that you have confirmed your email address.
If your primary address has been inundated with Spam, you will probably benefit from creating an alias address for your .Mac email address. These links may be helpful:
1. .Mac: About email aliases
2. Creating an alias
3. Turning an alias on or off

I threw the program away. I need to have it on my computer. Is there anywhere I can find the download for mail for mac. I have looked for the install disks to no avail.. Can anyone help me?
There is nowhere that you can download it from. You need your Mac OS X install disk. If you can't find it, you'll need to replace it. Then you can install Mail from that disk.

Multiple users of Mail on the Mac session
Before switching from PowerMail to Mail, I'd like to know if there's a way with Mail to store my emails in a separate folder from those of my wife so that I could access only my emails when I open Mail and my wife could only access hers. For example, can I create two Mail folders in the ~/Library (or somewhere else) and put an alias in the Dock to force Mail to open my wife's or mine without having to create different user profiles and switch between Mac sessions? Thanks!
Thanks. I guess I'll have to pay for the upgrade and stick with PowerMail until Apple makes the creation of separate profiles part of Mail, which I don't expect to see in the near future. Too bad. But I really want to avoid creating different user accounts on my Mac. Does anyone know of a client that offers the possibility for multiple email profiles that would also happen to be freeware?

Mail on the Mac - does not ask for password
I realize this isn't exactly a Safari topic, but I don't see a category devoted to Mail problems.
I've just recently got a new cable provider and Mail is set up through them and it can send and receive mail ok.
My problem is that I would like to set a password so that only I can see my email. I have a user name and password but Mail never asks for my password when I click to open the Mail application.
What am I doing wrong ? Thanks for your help and if this question should have been placed under another category please let me know.Aloha!
Try this... From the Menu Bar in Mac Mail, click Mail/Preferences. Select the Accounts tab. Click the Account Information tab.
You will See: Incoming Mail Server/UserName/ and Password. If your password is stored there, just delete it. Close the Preferences window and click Save when asked to save changes.
Quit the Mail application, then re-launch it. Click the Get Mail tab top left side of the window. You should be prompted for your password ... type it in but if you are prompted to Save it in your Keychain, click No.
Will that do the job?

How do I return my mail going from the MAC mail back to my AOL
How can I return my mail from the MAC mail to my AOL
Are you viewing it in Artist view or Album view? In Album view, it should still list albums by artist name, then album name. If you're in Album view, you might be looking for Artist view.

When I hit reply on the .Mac Mail site, an incorrect address is generatedW
When I'm using the mail program on the Internet .mac site, and hit reply to respond to a letter I received, inevitably the automatic address generated by the program won't function. The reply button puts the person's name and then e-mail address in brackets on the address line. When I hit the command to send, I receive a message that the address is not a valid e-mail address. Then I have to go back and erase the name and remove the brackets-then I am able to send the e-mail. Is everyone having this problem with mail on the .Mac site? I mean I am not typing in the e-mail address incorrectly. The program generates the return e-mail address when I hit reply and it is always incorrect because it puts the person's name as part of the e-mail. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
Jim LindseyHi,
This happens to me when the person's name you are
replying to contains a comma and webmail tries to
send it to two people.
eg if a mail comes from SURNAME, FORENAME
<[email protected]> then I will get an
error as the program thinks that SURNAME is an
invalid address
but I get an error message every time. It brings up the person's name followed by the email address in brackets. Then when I try to send, I get the message that this is not a valid address. Is this happening with everyone on .Mac site? Surely not or they would fix it. -
Transferring Mail from one Mac to another via Screen Sharing
Hi,
I live in California. My Mother lives in Montreal. She has to computers. A Mac Mini and new MacBook.
What I want to do is transfer her Mail from the Mac Mini to the MacBook via Screen Sharing or Remote Management. In other words, I want to do this from my computer.
How does one go about this? What somewhere is needed to make it all work?
Thanks in advance.you can't screen share between 3 computers. but you can between two. the easiest way is via ichat. users need to log into ichat on both computers and then you can send a request to share screen via ichat. it's also possible to do it without ichat but that might be more difficult that your mother can manage if she is not too computer savvy which I suspect is the case here. first she has to enable screen sharing in her system preferences->sharing. that's easy. but if she has a router (does she) then she need to port forward port public port 5900 on the router to the port 5900 on her computer so that you can get through the router when trying to screen share from outside. particular instructions on port forwarding depend on the router model. once the port is forwarded you can vnc to here computer from where you are by going to go menu-.connect to server in finder. then in the popup enter
vnc://ip.address
where the ip.address is the ip address of her router. she can find it out by going to this website for example
http://www.whatismyip.com/
but all in all, it's much easier with ichat as no port forwarding is required.
