HTTP Server TimeOut settings & its Impact

Hello Guys,
We are using OracleAS 10g 9.0.4 on Windows-2000 SP-4. The J2EE enabled application is deployed and and being accssed via web browser. It was done by one of my fellow member who is not with us now. I have some doubt regarding HTTP Server which is available in 10gAS. COuld anybody just help me out....I am regferring Docs. but not able to get it for me...
1. The TimeOut in HTTP Server. What does it mean and if i increase this value...what impact we may have on HTTP request etc.
2. Difference between Port and Listen.? Do we use both of them.?
Please help.
Regards,
Kamesh Rastogi

Hi Kamesh!
From the manuals:
Timeout:
The Timeout specifies the amount of time Apache will wait for a GET, POST, PUT request and ACKs on transmissions. You can safely leave this option on its default values.
Listen:
The Listen directive instructs Apache to listen to more than one IP address or port; by default it responds to requests on all IP interfaces, but only on the port given by the Port directive.
Port:
The Port directive has two behaviors, the first of which is necessary for NCSA backwards compatibility (and which is confusing in the context of Apache).
* In the absence of any Listen or BindAddress directives specifying a port number, a Port directive given in the "main server" (i.e., outside any <VirtualHost> section) sets the network port on which the server listens. If there are any Listen or BindAddress directives specifying :number then Port has no effect on what address the server listens at.
* The Port directive sets the SERVER_PORT environment variable (for CGI and SSI), and is used when the server must generate a URL that refers to itself (for example when creating an external redirect to itself). This behavior is modified by UseCanonicalName.
The primary behavior of Port should be considered to be similar to that of the ServerName directive. The ServerName and Port together specify what you consider to be the canonical address of the server. (See also UseCanonicalName.)

    I have removed __db from here, It works fine :-)
    Any idea y this happens.. my setup was running for more than year now and at once it gives this.. I don't have any definite answer as to what would cause this -- it may be a database lock was left if the cshttpd process wasn't cleanly shut-down. Ideally Calendar Server should recover/check from this situation...

  • How do I adjust the HTTP server receive timeout for one site on Ironport S670

    Hi All,
    How do I adjust the HTTP server receive timeout for one site on Ironport S670?A web based application can take a long time (45 to 60 minutes) to fill a form once a user Login.The proxy will timeout the connection before the result comes back.How do I resolve the issue?
    Thanks

    Sandeep,
    There is no option to adjust timers for one specific website.  Any changes will affect all websites.  The setting is under Security Services > Web Proxy.  If only one site is being problematic for you, I'd recommend you consider bypassing it.
    Is this an HTTPS site?
    You may want to open a TAC case and have them take a deeper look into this.

  • How to set -Xss or ulimit  for Oracle Http Server

    Hi,
    We are facing Out of Memory Error in OHS 11g in our cluster environment. Where I can see below statements in http log file:
    # There is insufficient memory for the Java Runtime Environment to continue.
    # Cannot create GC thread. Out of system resources.
    # Possible reasons:
    # The system is out of physical RAM or swap space
    # In 32 bit mode, the process size limit was hit
    # Possible solutions:
    # Reduce memory load on the system
    # Increase physical memory or swap space
    # Check if swap backing store is full
    # Use 64 bit Java on a 64 bit OS
    # Decrease Java heap size (-Xmx/-Xms)
    # Decrease number of Java threads
    # Decrease Java thread stack sizes (-Xss)
    # Set larger code cache with -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=
    # This output file may be truncated or incomplete.
    #  Out of Memory Error (gcTaskThread.cpp:46), pid=17956, tid=140591807985408
    When I run the ulimit command on machine, stack size is showing as 10MB:
    Result:
    [oracle@XXXXXX bin]$ ulimit -a
    core file size          (blocks, -c) unlimited
    data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
    scheduling priority (-e) 0
    file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
    pending signals (-i) 1031958
    max locked memory       (kbytes, -l) 3500000
    max memory size         (kbytes, -m) unlimited
    open files (-n) 131072
    pipe size            (512 bytes, -p) 8
    POSIX message queues     (bytes, -q) 819200
    real-time priority (-r) 0
    stack size (kbytes, -s) 10240
    cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
    max user processes (-u) 131072
    virtual memory          (kbytes, -v) unlimited
    file locks (-x) unlimited
    Setting the stack size to 512KB or 256KB might resolve the problem.
    I tried setting ulimit -s 512  in my user bash_profile. and ran ulimit -a , then it is showing as
    stack size (kbytes, -s) 512
    If I set at user level, does it have any impact? Or we should set at JVM level using -Xss
    Can some body tell me where can I set -Xss for Oracle HTTP server 11g?
    Regards,
    Vidya

    Hi Marco,
    I believe you'll need to setup a MX record under 'More Actions' for your domain in Site Settings / Site Domains.
    Select the option "Use another external service for email" and enter your primary mail server's hostname at priority 10.
    Think you can repeat this step for your secondary mail server (priority 20) if you have one.
    Regards
    Mike

    TIA!After a database re-install on my Windows 7 laptop 2 months ago I tried to install the HTTP server but had trouble getting it to work. After a day or two I gave up and used the EPG which works with some performance issues - pages can take many seconds to render. I think there is a conflict between the EPG and security software on the laptop but have not been able to pin down the exact problem. Anyway, the EPG is not an option for you and even Oracle does not reccommend it for production implementations. The EPG is okay for quick-and-dirty R & D but real implentation should have something better. I prefer the EPG on my laptop because the Apex listener required an extra window to be open that I was likely to close by mistake (my error yes. Reality is sometimes stupid).
    I have had several sucessful installs on older versions of Apex on Oracle 9 and 10 on Windows XP using the HTTP server but always struggle with the configuration; getting the settings in the .conf file (whatever it is called now) correct remains difficult (at least for me). I keep installation notes on problems encountered and their solutions. Typical issues I encounter are
    1. Incorrect configuration file settings
    2. Improper loading of images
    3. Missing installation steps (unlocking ANONYMOUS, for instance, or not updating the PL/SQL version).
    4. Make sure the correct URL is being used
    5. When using the HTTP Server making sure it is running by using its URL is very heplful
    Follow the installation instructions for your platform and listener. If something does not work first review the installtion instructions very carefully, then perform web searches for answers to the problem. Except for last time when I lost patience with the HTTP server the installations have always worked.
    I also find Windows 7 painful - the added security prevents me from editing needed files without jumping through hoops. I don't even want to think about Windows 8 ...

  • AppFabric 1.1 with Windows 7 losing or abandone sessions and ignore the timeout settings

    Hi,
    We have a enterprise financial web solution using aspx and AppFabric 1.1 and we have an issue with Sessions as the get abandoned or appFabric is ignoring the timeout settings.
    I tried almost everything: use sql and xml configuration, deactivate firewalls, ensure all sessions are set to 20 minutes expirations. We have the appFabric settings on the web.config and our project is multilayer but sessions are mainly
    created/consumed at the web project level..
    We use AppFabric 1.1 with Sql Server 2008R2 over a Windows7 x64 environment.
    I also tried all the options using powerShell command: get-command -module DistributedCacheAdministration, I increased the TTL to 38 mins but still nothing makes any difference. Sessions are lost between ~~ 5 to 10 minutes no matter if
    you are playing with the solution or you left aside..
    Please help. I really appreciate any suggestion, idea, recommendation..

    Hello, we are unable to use JDev 9.0.3.1035.
    We installed your distribution and set it up as follows:
    1. Linked to CVS and checked out our project which works just fine under JDev 9.0.2
    2. Added libraries for Jakarta ECS and MS SQL Server JDBC drivers.
    Then we can run it once successfully. Close browser and terminate embedded OC4J Server and run project again and we get the following error:

This problem occurs both in Win 2000 PRO and Win XP Pro. We have tried every combination of OC4J server host names, HTTP Server ports and Web Browser proxy settings.
    A similar problem was fixed in Rel 9.0.2 by changing the Host Name of the embedded OC4J server to localhost from the IP address.

    Hi, we installed and configured JDEV 9.0.3.1035 and are experiencing this persistent problem, whenever we try to run our app the second or any subsequent time:

    This is happening since we switched from JDEV 9.0.2 which always started up cleanly. It appears that the port is not being released on OC4J server termination. We are not running any other web servers and verified all open ports with netstat -a.

  • ASA-5585-X 8.4(6)5 Idle connections are not being removed according to timeout settings

    Hi,
    Just a quick question if anybody has run into a bug where the ASAs "timeout" settings are not being applied to idle connections.
    It seems that our ASA running the software level 8.4(6)5 is not tearing down connections. This mainly seems to be a problem in one Security Context where there are around 300k UDP connections (related to VOIP phones) that are not being torn down. Idle timers on the connections are going as far as 700 hours. Common to all the UDP connections is also the fact that only 19 Bytes of data has been transmitted on the connection built on the firewall. I am not sure what the purpose of these UDP Connections is as both the source and destination port is a random high port.
    I was not able find any Bug ID which description would match the situation I am seeing. I did not see anything in the release notes of 8.4(7) or its interrim release either that would list thing kind of bug.
    - Jouni

    Hi Jouni,
    This caveat seems to be the closest match as 8.4.6 is the affected ASA code.
    CSCuh13899
    Symptoms:-
    Some connection may not removed even after reaching idle timeout.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuh13899/?reffering_site=dumpcr
    You can upgrade to the next stable ASA code as suggested in the referred document.

  • How to restart HTTP Server, OC4J after failure.

    Hi ,
    I want to test "Death detection and Automatic Restart" feature for a failed instance.
    Environment details :
    - Oracle 10g AS Release 2. (J2EE and Web Cache)
    - Microsoft Windows XP OS
    Here are the steps that I have done to implement this for HTTP Server.
    1) Following change done in opmn.cml file
    <process-set id="HTTP_Server" restart-on-death="true" numprocs="1">
    <module-data>
    <category id="start-parameters">
    <data id="config-file" value="D:\OraHome_1\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf"/>
    <data id="start-mode" value="ssl-disabled"/>
    <data id="command-line" value="-D MyDefine"/>
    </category>
    <category id="ping-parameters">
    <data id="ping-url" value="/"/>
    </category>
    <category id="restart-parameters">
    <data id="reverseping-timeout" value="345"/>
    <data id="no-reverseping-failed-ping-limit" value="3"/>
    <data id="reverseping-failed-ping-limit" value="6"/>
    </category>
    </module-data>
    <start timeout="60" retry="3"/>
    <stop timeout="60"/>
    <restart timeout="30"/>
    <ping timeout="30" interval="30"/>
    </process-set>
    2) Running following command
    - opmnctl reload opmn.xml
    - dcmctl resyncinstance -ct ohs
    - dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn
    To test this out, I execute this command
    - opmnctl stopproc ias-component=HTTP_Server
    Will the HTTP Server restart automatically after 30 second ?
    Is the "restart-on-death" feature is default ?

    From Metalink Note:298551.1
    By default, as in the schema definition file, opmn.xsd, the restart-on-death parameter takes a default BOOLEAN value of "TRUE" which means that OPMN mandate is to ping the managed processes ( OC4J instances and Apache ) at certain pre-defined intervals, monitor them for a response within a certain specified timeout period and retry the operation 3 times before concluding that the process is dead due to its non-responsive state and killing and restarting it to guarantee that the managed processes are up and able to service client requests on an ongoing basis - this is OPMN's mandate in ensuring failover and availability of the processes it manages.
    "restart-on-death" is defalt?

  • Any advice as to why I'm getting Email Server Timeouts for my 2 email accounts (ports 993 & 110)?

    Email Server Timeouts for my two email accounts:
    For the time periods April 12-21, 2012 and April 27-present, 2012 I have been unable to access my email account at ***** through the pop server. The server returns them message "The connection to the server “*****” on port 110 timed out."
    I have also had the same problem accessing my gmail account via IMAP, receiving the following message: "The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 993 timed out."
    I used the Connection Doctor program connected to Apple Mail and received the following information:
    Mail was able to connect to the internet.
    Gmail: Could not connect to this Gmail IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.
    BayanMail: Could not connect to this POP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences.
    SMTP smtp.gmail.com:*****@gmail.com Connection and login to server succeeded.
    *****Mail SMTP server: Connection to server succeeded; login not required.
    Can you help me with this problem?
    I am running OS 10.6.8
    Mail 4.5

    The Motorola Droid Razr has a camera that sets up the shot to take a quality picture so its not in an instant. My wife also doesn't like that feature but I believe in the settings you can disable some of those functions. You have to read the owners manual for optimal settings.
    Now email sent from the native app that came with the phone is totally useless. If you have a email service like Gmail or Yahoo Mail or Outlook Email go to the google play store and use the stand alone app. I can tell you that when we email photos the best email app is GMail or Microsoft Outlook Mail.
    I take a picture and then select Gmail and it attaches and sends with great speed and Outlook works this way also since the attachment size is greater than other email programs. Your local isp or even exchange server will not send such large attachments
    And I agree those apps preloaded should be able to be removed. If I buy my phone I should say what I want on it. But alas unless you do some other methods you can find on the web those dumb apps will remain.
    Good Luck

  • Single Sign-on and HTTP Server not started

    I have installed oracle9iAS on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 (SLES 8) which is certified by Oracle to run oracle9iAS. Everything was working propely after installation but when I restarted the server, the listener, the iasdb instance, and the EM started properly but when I went to http://servername:1810 and clicked on start all i got them all started but the HTTP Server and the Single Sign-on. When I tried to start the HTTP Server individually i got the following error:
    oracle.sysman.emSDK.util.jdk.EMException: The opmn request has failed. From opmn: HTTP/1.1 204 No Content Content-Length: 0 Content-Type: text/html Response: 0 of 1 processes started. Check opmn log files such as ipm.log and ons.log for detailed.
    I checked the log and its showing the following:

    I tried to start it from command line with the command
    $dcmctl start -ct ohs
    and it returned ADMN-906025
    Anyone can help me solving this problem??

    This error Can be caused by a syntax error in your httpd.conf file, check it / correct it try reloading OHS.
    Ensure that emctl is not running when you run any dcmctl commands! If you have already run any dcmctl commands with emctl running that can cause your problem - if so to fix it solution is really to re-install.

  • How to deal with deadlock on wwv_flow_data table when http server times out

    There are some threads about a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table. None of them contain a real explanation for this behaviour. In my case I will try to explain what I think is happening. Maybe it helps somebody who is hitting the same matter.
    In my case with APEX 3.2.1 I am navigating from one page to another. Doing this APEX will lock the table wwv_flow_data. As soon as the other page is shown the lock will be released. But now this other page contains a bad performing query (standaard report region). After 5 minutes the http server (modplsql) will time out and present the message "No response from the application server" on the screen. In the meanwhile the query is still running on the database server and the lock stays on the wwv_flow_data table.
    Normal user behaviour will be that the user will use the back button to return to the previous page and tries it again to navigate to the other page or
    the user will try to refresh the page with the bad performing query.
    And voila now you will have a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table since a second session is trying to do the same thing while the first hasn't finished yet.
    How to deal with it?
    First of all. Have a good look at the bad performing query. Maybe you can improve it that it will succeed before the http server will timeout.
    In my case the 11gr1 optimizer couldn't handle a subquery factoring clause in the best way. After changing it back to a classical inline query the problem was solved.
    Secondly you could increase the timeout parameter of the http server. Although this not the best way.
    Maybe it would better if APEX in a next version would release the lock on the table wwv_flow_date earlier or do a rollback just before the moment that the http server is timing out.

    Mathieu Meeuwissen

    Hello Shmoove,
    I saw your reply here and you probably understand the problems the HTTP 100 response may cause.
    I am trying to send image that was taken by getSnapshot. The problem is that the server respond with this HTTP 100 message.
    I suspect that the reason that my server doesn't recognize the file that I'm sending from J2me is that the "server to client" response to the 100 message comes after the second message of (see what the TCPIP viewer shows down here):
