Https pages blocked

Hello,
Recently, safari (I've tried firefox too) cannot open web pages with https such as my bank, hotmail, and every other website I use that has secure pages. The message is: "safari could not open the page ... because the server is not responding." I have tried empty cache, reset safari, repaired permissions, all to no avail. Can anyone please help me?

It seems to be a "security" problem introduced with 10.5.6.
I opened a case with Apple 2 days after the 10.5.6 update came out (I applied the combo update), the only thing you can do is to try to remove the phising check in the Safari prefs, but please be aware that this is not solving the problem.
I was the first one writing (look for my other posts in the forums) of this problem, and now seems that thousands of upgraders (to 10.5.6) are suffering the same issue.
on my macbook all the "standard" operations (init, reset, cache, proxy, security, little snitch, permissions, repair, new user..etc.etc.etc.) didn't solve the problem.
on my g4 powerbook with 10.5.5 the issue is not present.
with my macbook's wife, from scratch to leopard 1.5.6, very same problem, symptoms are:
- around 70% of https sites blocked (problem may be on the new OS process demanded to manage certificates).
- Inability to read and handle the cookies from https sites (it seems that Mac OS believe that the source who want to modify the cookie is not safe... don't ask me why!)
- slowness of dns lookup (it applies on ISP's DNS and also on other DNS sources. eg: OpenDNS).
Temporary solution?
use an "alternative" way to surf... (Parallels, VM..., Sun's VM).
it seems that Opera is "less" affected by the problem (I'm not sure if they use the internal OS procs to check https sites).
The problem, let me highlight again, seems to be on how MacOSX now treats https/certificates/phising/proxies...
Hope to have a solution soon.

  • My ipad suddenly blocks all wi-fi access with this notice: "Web Page Blocked"

    I've ensured my time is on auto, have reset setting, etc. but nothing works to-date.  Here's the full error notice I receive:  "Web Page Blocked.  An error ocurred while trying to rate the website using the web filtering service.  Web filter service error: invalid licence"  This isn't about a specific site--I won't allow wi-fi to connect.  Any way to disable, stop, etc. this process?

    That sounds like you have a web filtering service configured in your network or router and the license to use the service has expired. Reconfigure your router to remove use of this filter.

  • Unable to connect to https pages using mobile provider

    Hello all,
    I have a brand new iphone 3GS running 3.1.2 and fully updated.
    MY PROBLEM IS:
    I cannot connect to any sites that use https when using my mobile service provider, which is MTN in Ghana. I can however access these sites when connecting by WIFI.
    Sites I cannot access which use https when connecting via my mobile service provider include:
    - gmail.com (which after redirecting, refuses to open the https login page)
    - my bank asbbank.co.nz (which redirects to an https page),
    - facebook (which after entering login info tries to redirect to an https page) - and - ironically - https://support.apple.com.
    The error in each case is a timeout "Cannot open page, safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". Further, I ALSO cannot access my gmail mail account although everything is configured correctly. This gives me an imap error.
    HOWEVER:
    -I can access all http websites using my mobile service provider including yahoo mail, just not https
    -When connecting via WIFI I CAN access all services and websites, including https and I CAN connect to my gmail mail account (without the imap warning proving I have configured it with the proper settings/password)
    I HAVE TRIED (just about everything):
    -clearing cache, cookies, history
    -restarting the iphone, force restarting
    -I have reset all network connections
    -I have wiped my whole iphone to reset all settings and delete all content
    - I have visited my mobile service provider (MTN Ghana) who assure me my iphone is configured correctly, that their servers do not block iphones. A customer care person was able to connect to gmail in front of me with their blackberry phone via the same MTN network. However when this persons sim card was inserted into my iphone (which is legally unlocked from New Zealand) my iphone could not connect to gmail through safari...
    Please, any suggestions are welcome, I have searched long and hard for an answer and am still unsure where the exact problem lies.
    Much thanks, Roger

    Solved. The carrier twice gave me the apn details as wap, and eventually tracked down that it should be 'internet' . Interestingly 2 other carriers in Ghana Tigo and Vodafone also didnt know this and couldnt configure the 3GS...

  • Safari will only load secure https pages

    Just encountered an issue today where safari will only load secure https pages.  Any page that doesn't begin with https gets the "safari can't connect to the server" error.  I can connect to all pages using firefox or chrome on the same system.  I have emptied cache and reset safari except for password info.  Still no luck.  Using Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2) on OSX 10.6.8

    Gah nevermind my nephew was using my account and kept clicking the littlesnitch notifications to make them go away.  Little bugger managed to block everything on port 80 http.  Time to set up a guest account.

  • Add Device sees wireless but printer is wired and can reach the HTTP page on wire

    I installed my new Officejet 8000 Pro A809 with an ethernet but when I run the HP "Add Device" Wizard, it trys to install it as wireless even though I select wired and the install fails.
    I can see the http page for the printer and it shows all sane information about my printer so I believe the ethernet is actually working.
    I am running WinXP with the FW off. The printer is on the same switch as my PC & of course I can see the http page
    In the wizard, although I selected "Wired" of course the wire is working, the "Found Network Printers" page shows that its connection is wireless. None-the-less I click next and a screen comes up for "Starting Network Services" & it rolls though topology, wireless strength, etc. and to sending an SLP request to the IP then it fails & shows an picture of a wireless signal and a big red X.
    The HP Home Network Diagnostics Utility says that software to connect to printer over network is missing BUT I ran the Wizard all the way though a second time, I selected that my device was not online and it finished OK. I ran the UPDATE from the Utility & it did a security update; I rand it again and it did not find any.
    Although my FW is off, I checked the ports that the FW Guide says are needed:
    I can telenet to the printer on ports 9100 & 92200
    I cannot telnet on ports 137,139 or 427
    Ideas?
    Thanks!

    OK, plugging the Ethernet cable into the printer should turn off the printer's wireless radio, but in case it did not, click the button near the blue light (or go to Setup > Network > Turn off wireless radio on the front panel).
    Now, don't bother with the Add Device wizard, let's just add it manually:
    Verify that you can browse to the printer's internal web page by its IP address.  If you cannot, disable your security system's firewall (not Windows firewall, it is usually not in the way).
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • A fix for the Mozilla Firefox SSL Certificate Validation Security Weakness vulnerability? This appears to be an issue with not revalidating certificates when loading HTTPS pages from cache.

    We have to close vulnerabilities for PCI & Cybertrust certification. Researching the issue, it appears to be related to certificates not being revalidated when loading HTTPS pages from cache. The bug report I found is:

    We've already established it is not a add-ons problem but obviously there will be less add-ons in this new profile to help exclude.
    Since there is two PC profiles on the PC, I tried the second profile, same problem. Used the RESET FF function on the second PC profile...same thing...even followed the instruct for uninstall &re-install...same problem.

    How do I create a https page?

    Not in iWeb, nor in any other application.
    https is a secure protocal. It's about encrypting webpages and content.
    It's done at the server.

  • Embedding web viewer in an https page

    It seems that there is an another problem.
    The webviewer is embed in a https page. The index.html is calling the frame : src="http://contentviewer.adobe.com/s/...
    If I replace with https it doesn't work anymore.
    So the question should be :
    How to embed the webviewer in a https session? ;-)

    Hello Bob,
    This is the context :
    - My client try to embedd the webviewer in an https page.
    - We specified the URL in the account admin with the correct landing page URL.
    - We took the bridgedemo files from adobe and replaced the stings with the correct parameter (from the share e-mail from the app)
    - When we go to the page, the webviewer says : "not authorized to see the content"
    - In fact, the URL param. is not correct > the space is interpreted as %20 and it need to be %2520 (as the URL form the share email)
    - If i manually change the src url with %2520 (the first problem) it launch the folio and i can see the content. That works in Chrome
    - But in firefox it doesn't work. Maybe the problem is because it's an iframe calling an http page in an https?
    Another problem is even we change the url parameter in the source code (index.html) the query stay with %20 and not %2520
    when we inspect the file.
    Maybe can you take a look? I can PM the URL.

    I can't load http web pages in Safari, but can load https pages. Have similar problem with Opera, but no problem loading http web pages on my iPad. The problem started yesterday and is on my iMac.  So am guessing that it is a mavericks setting issue?
    Any suggestions on what to do?

  • How to give Username and password when calling HTTP page?

    I have this code when i run this I get credentials error. How to give credentials .The authentication is set to windows in the https page. Means pop up will appear to get the credentials
    declare
    req UTL_HTTP.REQ;
    resp UTL_HTTP.RESP;
    value varchar2(1024);
    p_url varchar2(4000);
    OPT varchar2(1000);
    BEGIN
    dbms_output.put_line('');
    p_url:='http://www.xyz.com/';
    dbms_output.put_line(p_url);
    req := UTL_HTTP.begin_REQUEST(p_url);
    utl_http.set_header(req, 'User-Agent', 'Mozilla/4.0');
    resp := utl_http.get_response(req);
    loop
    utl_http.read_line(resp, value, true);
    dbms_output.put_line(value);
    end loop;
    exception
    when utl_http.end_of_body then
    utl_http.end_response(resp);
    END;
    When i run this i get
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"/>
    <title>401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.</title>
    <style type="text/css">

    Basic authentication is set using the UTL_HTTP.Set_Authentication() call.
    If you are using a proxy and need procy authentication, you can set the username and password for proxy access, as part of the proxy URL. E.g.
    utl_http.set_proxy( 'http://proxyuser:[email protected]', null );NTLM (Windows NT LAN Manager) authentication is proprietary and not part of the HTTP specifications. If that is needed, try and use the username and password as part of the URL - or do some research on how to manually perform NTLM authentication.
    If you are using HTTPS, you need an Oracle Wallet with that server's certificate (making it a trusted certificate), and then set/use the wallet using the UTL_HTTP.Set_Wallet() call. See sample code in {message:id=10820182}.

  • Moving from secure https page to non secure page on same site

    Secure https page navigation to a non secure http page still has you in a secure url when navigating within the same site, when user clicks to leave the secure page to go to a non secure page the address bar still has them in a secure https url. Is there a way to code the nav to not allow this to occur? Tried adding a full url to the non secure pages and that worked but then my active states of the nav stops working. Any ideas or scripts that may help here? Thanks!

    There's a script for that! Here's a link to it...

  • Internal System Error prevents access to https pages of HP Deskjet 3052A

    OK, sorry, try this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-104282-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

    If this is still a problem, try this:Instead of going to an HTTPS page from the HTTP page, start out in the HTTPS pages. Example: Normally, you would go to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to access your printer's web interface, and then you click the link to one of the HTTPS pages.Try this: Go to httpS://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (capitalized only for effect). This will bring you to the homepage of the printer, but there won't be any information on it. Click the Settings Tab, and then the Security link. You will be brought to a screen to create a password for the Admin account for the SSL pages. Once you've created this password, it will all work the way it's supposed to. The problem is that the web interface requires you to create a password in order to access the SSL pages, but HP messed up and put the page to create the account on an SSL page. So, you can't access the page to create your account, because you haven't created the account yet. I just spent the last hour and a half chatting with tech support on this and I finally found the backdoor solution. I asked them to pass it on so, maybe someday it'll be fixed in a firmware update.  Try this and let me know if it works for you. I've seen many other people with the same problem and no solution.
