Huge chunk of music missing overnight!

I'm running iTunes 10 on a Windows 7 operating system.
Last night we had friends over and played music through our library all afternoon and evening. This morning when I went to turn some music on again, over 2 and half thousand songs are missing from the library! Out library has been built up over 2 decades and I am totally unimpressed!! I've located some of the music manually, and sometimes the library search will pick up an album if I link one file but on other ocassions,I'm having to manually link ever song. Yet others files and whole albums seem to have completely vanished off our system altogether!!! I'm also having trouble copying cover artwork (it used to be a case of finding the image online and copying it over to iTunes.
I'm at a total loss! I don't even know how this happened let alone why. Can anyone help me? I'm guessing either my husband or one of our kids authorised the update some time last night but I'm now TOTALLY frustrated as we're meant to be going away and leaving our house to house sitters for 2 weeks tomorrow morning. I'd like them to be able to access our itunes library to listen to music while we're away!

Either way, a huge amount of work.
Yes.
I would have to go in and identify the 20,000-or-so songs that I don't care to have synced onto the iPod right
or put them onto a playlist of their own which can be non-synced (yours)
Actually, you do it the other way around. You identify the songs you do want on the iPod and add them to a playlist.
Songs you don't want on the iPod aren't put onto the iPod playlist. Don't put them on any playlist if you don't want.
Then create a smart playlist with...
Match Rule;
Playlist is not {Music for iPod}
This will help to keep your music organized.
and either remove them from the Library (my method)
If they are already in your library, I wouldn't delete them unless you are never going to use them for anything.
Also, you would need to add them back later if you want them on the iPod.
That's kinda like taking CDs you don't listen to right now and boxing them up and putting them into storage.

  • Purchased Music Missing?

An album I bought on itunes has the exclaimation symbol on it. I've seen this question asked a few times, and I've tried to delete the songs and then re-download them from my account. This seemed to make the problem worse, now the songs are greyed out, and won't let me click on them to recive an error message. How do I get my songs back, and why did this happen?

Nevermind, I sycned my ipod to my iTunes and it found the album through my ipod. It's never done that before when I had other music missing, but it's back now so try this if you have a similar problem

  • Will The Sims 3 take a huge chunk out of my memory?

    Hi everyone,
I want to download The sims 3 for my iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, it has 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and Sims uses 2GB RAM, I just want to know will this download take a huge chunk from my memory and will the game slow my iMac down.
It'd be awesome if someone could get back to me
    Many thanks, Amy

think you may confuse storage and work memory
storage as in the harddrive is like a fridge where work memory which you have 8GB is like the kitchen table where the "processing" is done
when one ends the program or game the kitchen table is cleared up for new data so
when your sims game is not running it's not taking up any of your 8GB of memory
and likely the 2GB is storage as in how much it take up on your harddrive

  • Chunks of graphics missing

    G'day folks,
I have written a program which uses a gui, which is a number of JTabbedPanes with JPanels etc, I have the repaint() in there and the program works beautifully on the 8 different computers that I have tested it on which runs from a P150 on Win98SE to a P1.7 on XP, all have jre1.4.1_01, I am having trouble with one particular computer which is a dell P!!!833 with 256 MBRAM running on WinMe. When you click on any tab, the titles of the other tabs dissappear and chunks of graphics go missing (sometimes textfields, labels, whole/parts of panels), I have run it from the command line and there is no exceptions thrown when this is happening so I don't think it is a problem with the program(plus the fact that it works perfectly on 8 other computers). I dug through the archives and found a reference to problems with sony viao products whcih people reported as having problems with getting the blue death screen and they decided that this was due to some of the ATI chips and the 3d graphics in java not working coherently, however the symptoms are different, there is no blue death screen only chunks of graphics missing.
The said computer runs all windows based programs flawlessly, it is only with java (but there are no exceptions thrown, which is wierd cause I've written stuff where there are graphics errors e.g. making a tabbedpane as the contentpane and then when you switch between tabs you get a whole buch of paintcomponent errors etc - there is none of this).
I've basically narrowed it down to being a problem with this one computer and was wondering if anyone could maybe shed some light on the more technical systems networking or any other suggestions!
the said computer has an ATI mobility Rage 128 graphics chip.
    Thanks alot for your help,
    Oz!!!!!!

If it runs fine on 8 other computers, that should pretty much tell ya there's some problem with the video of the problem machine.
A simple test is to right-click on screen and bring up screen Properties, go into Settings, then Advanced, then Troubleshooting panel and turn "Hardware Accelaration" all the way down.
Usually that will fix such problems, and if it does, points to a problem in the video drivers having bugs in that machine. If that does fix it, you can try updating the Video drivers and see if that works.

  • Huge percentage of files "missing"

yeah, we all are having out iTunes 11 crises, here's mine
a huge percentage of my files (I'm going to guess 40% or so) are now showing up as missing. Once I click on the file and select the resulting Locate option I can type the title of the song and, sure enough, it's located... in the folder for the album it's on, in the iTunes folder on my HD.... right where it's supposed to be and has been for years. Also, you have to do this for every single file. I've not found an option that says "would you like to locate the rest of your 10,000 missing files?' or the equiv...
What gives, Apple? None of this was broken before 11. There's a LOT of really cool stuff going on now, for sure. That said, it seems like a lot of things that weren't broken were "fixed" (where's the "display duplicates" function?) or are now broken.
I'm sure this will all be great in a month or two, but for now you guys really need to burn some midnight oil on the first set of patches.

I just found I have more music than before?!?!?!
    I had 5700 songs now it's over 6300 songs.
I hate the plain look of it too.  the color is gone and the cool metal look.

  • Itunes just deleted a big chunk of music from my ipod and will no longer let me create a playlist.  It also deleted my playlists.

My ipod stopped playing music today. It was just skipping everything, so I restarted it, as per Apple's instructions on their troubleshooting page.  Then, when I plugged it into Itunes, it started syncing to the computer, which was fine, until I realized after that I was missing loads of music, including but not limited to, my entire Beatles collection, which I do not own on CD anymore.  What happened, and how do I create playlists again?

I've since tried restoring from the Previous Itunes Library folder, but even files that date from times when I am 100% positive the missing music existed both on my laptop and my ipod, the songs are gone. Which would make sense, if itunes somehow managed to delete the actual files from my hard drive (how?!)... Does anyone know how or why this could have happened? I believe this happened after updating to the previous version of itunes (I upgraded to 11.1.3 after noticing the missing music, in hopes that it might undo the damage, but no dice).

  • A huge amount of businesses missing from Apple maps

    Hi all,
I like so many other people am posting up about the new Apple Maps that have been forced upon us. I've been aware of the major mistakes on the news, ie misplaced towns and railway stations but I think there is a bigger problem that isn't being as well addressed. That is the massive amount of small scale data that is missing all together. Over the last two hours I've been testing a few places I know very well and had some really shocking results. I live in Sale (Manchester) and we are lucky to have lots of nice restaurants and coffee shops. Out of the six long established coffee shops only one appears on Apple maps! Out of all the many restaurants (40+) six appear. Also many businesses that are on the map with the icons Apple have used are in completely the wrong place.
So I also did a search for pubs in a place called Longridge I know very well and out of the ten pubs one appears as a result but if you zoom in a further three can be seen using the icons. I have also noticed that the M60 doesn't have any junction numbers which made travelling to a venue on Saturday difficult, I ended up looking at Googlemaps through the safari browser but ofc it's now sluggish and difficult to use as its not integrated.
So if Apple maps perform as bad as this across the UK then it's no even close to being as reliable as I'd need it to be, I just don't feel I can trust what it's telling me and that's the worst situation to be in when you rely on a map to get around so much.
I am a huge fan of Apple products but am very aware they are not perfect, but even with the no flash support thing, you know there is a reason behind what they are trying to do. However for the first time in a long time I'm now wondering what the **** Apple are playing at. Surely they must know how bad this software is right? I would love to know how it all panned out, ie did Apple get pushed by Google or did they jump? I mean its just insane, Google Maps is already doing everything the customer want so why not carry on using them? Are Apple so stubborn that they would rather nobble every one of their loyal customers than hold hands with Google. I don't know, if anyone out there has any info on what actually happened here then please post up.
As far as I can see Apple Maps is nowhere near ready (although the 3D cities are very nice) and so I'm really hoping they realise this isn't on.
    Cheers,
    Lee

Nokia did the same mistake several years ago stop listening customers!
Now apple is doing the same thing.. if the management has any common sense they will give people to option downgrade (old users) and option to choose between map google and apple maps...
Challenge for apple maps....give your customer choice to choose between maps google and maps apple
then make apple maps so much better that people want volunterily to choose to apple maps?
Is this too much to ask?
Apple are you realizing how much corporate customers you are forcing to move to android phone because of this?
We want our maps google back!

  • Some musics missing on iTunes

    Hi all!
I'm just a recent user of iTunes.
I updated all my music to it, without problems. But meanwhile I run into a small issue: some musics (mp3 files) are missing on iTunes.
I did not move or edit them. iTunes just doesn't recognize them. I tried to add them manually to iTunes, but they don't appear on the library. Tried to convert them to .aac and then add but it didn't work either.
Some of the files missing are from an album with about 11 songs. 3 are on iTunes. The others aren't. This happened for at least 15 songs.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

You have apparently encountered the very common problem of iTunes being strict/finicky/incompetent (pick your own interpretation) about slight variations in MP3 tags.
Treat the files with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator. That usually allows them to be added to iTunes.

  • Summary thread: Apps Dead and Music Missing - Restore required for fix

This is a summary thread, so that we can get this problem noticed by apple. If you are having this problem, please post here so this issue is addressed in only one place. If you find other posts on this matter, please post the link here.
    Problem:
All downloaded apps are dead, they initiate but return you right away to the home screen.
    ipod music is missing.
The problem is only fixed by doing a restore.
This issue might be associated with the 2.0.1 update.
The problem usually starts after a new app is downloaded.

...and a few more long ones for good measure. To my mind the consensus is iTunes 7.7.1 broke something with DRM and reverting to iTunes 7.7 might solve it until Apple fixes the problem. However there are those that disagree. Much speculation.

The app problems referred to there are the very same in these forums.
    Jeff suggests:
{quote}The problem with Apps crashing within 2-3 seconds is probably because of the DRM bug in itunes 7.7.1. It corrupts the DRM (Digital Rights Management) on the iphone. If you have the bug you will see two problems…apps quit in 2-3 seconds and all music seems to have “disappeared” off your iphone.
The fix is to downgrade to itunes 7.7. Apple approved a link to be put on the discussions forum. I have posted the link to the forum below. Read the posts from oldest to newest and it tells you exactly how to downgrade. I have been on 7.7 for 2 weeks now with no app crashing issues and hundreds of other people have seen it fix the problem. I would not go back to 7.7.1 until 7.7.2 comes out.

  • IOS5 update now music "missing" on iPhone

Since updating to iOS5 i have noticed that it has changed some of the Artists names on my iPhone 4. iTunes is still "correct". Everything is done on auto sync.
For example on iTunes if an artist has another artist featuring on the track I will amend the track title to say Song X Featuring Artist X and the Artist stays as the main artist only. Now all songs featuring a second artist appear in a separate list - Dr Dre Featuring Eminem or Snoop Dogg is now as 3 artists not 1 (Dr. Dre)...
Some other examples of music that has moved:
    At The Drive In
    At The Drive-In
Appears as two separate artists because of the - which is present in itunes for all At The Drive-In songs. Same issue with Blink-182. Another issue: Under artist Justin Timberlake has the "Justified" Album under his name but "Future/Sex/Love/Sounds" is not there. I can only find it under Composers. It has done similar things for Compliations aswell. When this thing happend on my iPod Classic i could manually edit the Artist name on iTunes to make them appear under 1 artist and remove compliations from the search as some artists went missing.
Also some album artwork has gone from my iPhone when it is on iTunes and was on my iPhone prior to the i0S5 update.
Anyone know how to get the artist names to change and all albums appear under artist on my iPhone when iTunes is "correct"?

I have fixed the issue. It does take a little work.
On your itunes view right click and add the album artist list. iOS5 uses the "Album Artist" instead of the "Artist" to sort which is a little odd. If Album Artist is not complete it falls back on Artist. Just ensure that Album Artist is the same as the Artist.
E.g. Blink 182 was coming up as Blink-182 or Blink 182 on different songs. I just made the Album Artist field consistent across all songs. If the song has someone featuring on it i would add this to the song title not the Artist or Album Artist. That solved that part.
Re. Compilations if you go to ipod on your iphone if you click more you can see all your compliations. I don't use this feature i just look under Artist. Therefore i selected every song on my itunes "Get Info" and this and only this tick the part of compliation box and ensure it says NO. The Complations field will be empty for every single song in itunes.
If you wanted to use Complations on things like "Now thats what i call music" or whatever you can go into the song on Get Info and select it as part of compliation.
    Worked for me

  • Apps not working in IOS5 and music missing

I have installed IOS5 on my iPhone 4 and now when I click on most of the apps the screen flashes and the apps dont open.  even iBooks doesnt open. yet these same apps open on my ipad2.
Also, all of my music and videos that were on the phone are no longer there.  i have turned on iCloud on the phone and on my macbook pro where everything was previously backed up.  what am i missing?
    thanks

  • Shared Music Missing

I have my ATV synced to my Mac/iTunes, and I read that ATV will automatically stream from a synced Mac/iTunes, but I don't see any "Shared Music" on the ATV menus. And I can't access that music. It used to be there, but has been missing for some time now. Syncing works fine though.

I'm having a similar issue. I synced all media in iTunes to my Apple TV (there is nothing that is on my iMac that isn't on my Apple TV now). When I try to add a shared library on Apple TV, I get a code, but can't find a place to enter that code in iTunes.
Based on your answer, does this mean that only non-synced media will be available to stream? Would this then explain why I can't add a "Shared Library" on my Apple TV?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Music missing from ipod?

for some reason my ipod would not play and just keep running from one song to the next.i connected to computer to update and now all my songs are missing from the ipod and nothing i try puts is back.i have removed and put everything back, latest update, restore back to the begining still my ipod is blank.need help on what to do next.thanks loraine

i do normally auto update, and there is some music in itunes that I have moved around or deleted, more specifically, itunes cannot find it-however the music HAS stayed on my ipod!! do you know why this is?
    Not really sure.
Have you tried a Reset on the iPod?
If it keeps happening (and you don't want it to, you may have to Restore.)
should I just uncheck all the old music that I have deleted, then only update the checked stuff? (just to keep it organized?)
How are you deleting the music? Directly from the folder or are you using iTunes to delete it?
If you use iTunes, it will not be in iTunes to check or uncheck. I recommend you use iTunes to manage your music, then you don't have to worry abou twhere it is stored or what it is named, etc.
