HUGE problem (literally) - FCPX about to eat up my HD
Hey there,
this is my current config:
imac 2010 (27", 2.8GHz, 32GB RAM) // 255GB SSD (83.2 GB free) --- "Internal" // 1TB SSD (236.6 GB free) --- "External"
(both SSDs are actually built into the iMac, I just refer to them by different names)
Now, I've been working on the following project in FCPX for weeks now (let's call it Project One). All files for Project One are ony my "External" 1TB drive.
Daisy Disk shows me the following for Project One (482.3GB total):
- RAW clips (217GBs)
- Project One (262.1GBs) --- yellow sector divided into Project One (gray = 259.8GB) and Coloring (gray = 2.1GB).
My issue is that I'm still not done rendering all plugs (esp. Denoising), but Project One keeps on getting bigger and is now eating away my remaining "External" HD space. I think the problem is here in my Import Settings in FCPX:
I thought, I'd need the optimized media so I can see the denoise-function better, but I am now afraid that FCPX will ask for more space, because of the optimized "phantom file". While rendering last night, I already had to delete more space because of a pop-up warning window. I am literally running out of space.
My question to the good people on the forums is:
- can I uncheck "Create Optimized Media" without losing my current project (incl. the current timeline)?
- will the quality of the clips in the new timeline be good enough for a decent quality assessment by my eyes (original photographer here)?
TL;DR:
Why do itunes, iphoto, and FCPX always create multiple copies of my RAW files that ends up eating away my precious SSD storage space? How can I avoid it without losing everything?

Thanks for the help so far. If I understand correctly, the "specs" to my clips are all .mov files (H264), 1080p, either 30 or 60 fps. Nothing fancy, but still big (200+GB).

Thanks for your help. Maybe I mistook the word "Proxy" for "Alias"? I don't understand why Apple would offer any transcoding of the source material, esp. if it's on the HD. Either it gets imported as is, or it doesn't, verdad?
If I understood so far, you want me to:
- go into File-> Delete Generated Library Files -> and delete all "Optimized Media", leaving only the "Proxy"?
Please confirm.
Also, for all the noobs here reading this, can you please state the different uses between "source material" (straight from the camera), "proxy" and "optimized file" in relation to FCPX?

Huge problem using apple mail while sending email to a group...
Hey - I am quite confused... apple mail has huge problems using groups with about 150 addresses when writing and sending an email... the writing of emails is nearly impossible. Once the group name is inserted in the addressline (address book in iCloud!), apple mail uses nearly 100% CPU and further writing is nearly impossible. When sending such an email, all addresses are suddenly visible - though the box is NOT checked and the addresses should be hidden... what can I do? I use this feature (sending mails to groups) on a daily basis and cannot accept visible addresses...

ChristofHow about next time you send to the group, cc yourself, or include yourself in the group. Then receive the email on the iphone, you can "reply all" in order to send to the group. If you use an imap account, you can make a new folder, call it something like "groups", and save different group emails there for the next time you need to "reply all".

hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

Uh oh huge problem please help me!
Ok so long story short, i made a 2nd account, i was on it setting it up etc, i was looking at the recent what i did today, and for some reason i wanted to clear that up because i don't know i just wanted it to be clear i guess because i'm a perfectionist lol idk. ok so anyways, i dragged all that to the trash (i'm an idiot i know, AH i don't even know why i did that but ugh.) so a ton of stuff was then in the trash, including the applications like settings and garageband and a bunch of other stuff.
So then i realize what's now in the garbage and i get it out, put it on the desktop, etc. i click on it on the desktop and some of it opens but not really, because it says i have to reinstall it, or else it just doesn't open at all. so i can't even open the computer settings because that's one of the programs that won't open!!! and i can't use time machine because i just got this computer and hadn't yet set up time machine.
Basically, now i can't open like any of those programs and it's a huge problem. what should i do? i want to just somehow get the computer back to when it came out of the box, like get everything off it, reinstall leopard, and start fresh. how do i do this, or do you have a better idea? oh and also what will happen to my itunes library? how can i keep it the same, because i had spent like hours getting all my songs onto my new computer and getting my iphone to sync with my new computer and making my iphone work officially with my new imac.
Please help me!! oh and please don't be like wow you're stupid why would you throw that away, because i didn't even mean to and i know i'm stupid lol.

I have a huge problem with memory usage.
I am having two very huge problems with the amount of memory the game I'm working on is using. The first is that the background image for a part of my game takes up ~45mb of memory, but believe it or not, that's not my worst problem. i'm not worried about that right now.
The really, really big problem does involve that image, though.
Whn I'm done using the image, I can't get the resources it uses to be freed. As a result, the program uses more and more memory every time you go into that area of the game, because the memory used by tha area is just sitting there.
I used Jprofiler to figure out exactly what wasn't getting released, because I do everything I know how to make everything be garbage collected, including setting all the references to the image to null after you leave that area of the game, but nothing worked.
After I leave the area with the huge memory leak and give everything time to garbage collect, the main screen for memory usage shows about 45mb of memory used by 20 or so instances of int[], which is obviously the image.
However, this obscenely huge int array doesn't show up in the heap snapshot, which according to them means there's no reference to it or the image anywhere in the program.
Here's my question: If there's no reference anywhere to this int array, then why isn't it being garbage collected?Maybe you haven't actually released all references to that data.
Or if you have one 45mb image, maybe you have a bunch of other huge ones and you're just seeing those.
Why do you have a 45mb background image, though? Can't you use a standard technique like tiling it? -
I am having a huge problem with my motherboard(well I think). Whenever I start my computer, the motherboard just beeps, I get no display, it does not go to the bias, I cannot get it to do anything. I have tested the other parts and they all seem fine, I just can't figure out whats wrong. Could it be that it has burned out?? Thanks for any help, my specs r in my sig.

8.0.2 - problem 1 - unable to scroll screen down or up when the keyboard is present. When typing text, I am unable to see the text I am writing due to this problem. Huge problem for emails and other cloud based providers that allow for data text entry. While the keyboard is present, I am unable to scroll down to see the text, the screen automatically scrolls back up to the top of the screen. We need a fix ASAP!
Have you tried resetting your iPad? You will not lose any data. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

How do I get rid of iDisk - it's creating HUGE problems

Somehow iDisk ended up on my computer. It has never been used, but it is now creating a HUGE problem for me and I'd like to remove it completely from my system.
A message box is coming up saying:
WebDAV File System Authentication
Enter your user name and password to access the server
At the url http://idisk.mac.com
In the realm idisk.mac.com
This message box comes up all the time, twice and I can't continue in my current program until I hit the cancel button. The same message box comes up immediately after I cancel the first. It will then rear it's ugly head about 5 minutes later.
My Safari keeps crashing now as well...HELPPPPP.There were some reports of success with those steps in earlier threads, including one report that first running Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions made a difference . It might be worth doing that and restarting, and then trying again.

It's so annoying!! I have created a new Apple ID but after I click verify it just goes back to the previous page!!! It''s really frustrating I have tried for more than 4H, and the problem is not about the apple ID. I can download apps with the apple ID, which means IMessage is the problem! I restarted my iPad, I logged in and out of the apple ID in the store, AND YET IT STILL WON'T WORK, PLEASE HELP!

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.
Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

Huge problems using external iSight or DV video camera on my MPB DCD...
Ok, so I am developing some applications that make use of a video camera for motion tracking, and I have run into a huge problem when trying to use any external video camera. I have both an external iSight in great working order (I have tested it on my tower, which is also brand new, but on 10.4 for reasons of other applications not yet supported on 10.5.1) and also a Sony DCR-TRV520 NTSC Digital Handycam. (Once again, works perfectly when plugged in to the tower.) But if I plug either of them in to my MBP, no programs recognize their existence at all, be it iChat, iMovie, or my application. Nothing shows up in system profiler either. I try reboots, I get nothing... the internal iSight constantly takes over or is my only choice in applications.
And before you even ask, yes, my firewire port works, as I can plug my external firewire solo audio interface into it no problems, and no, I don't have any other firewire devices plugged in when trying to get the computer to recognize they are there.
Quick response would be awesome, as I am on a timeline to finish the program development and it is very important that I get this to work, preferably the Sony.I just read this in their Forum mate ...

Anyone get a huge "Problem Report for iDVD" with hundreds of lines of information?
Anyone get a huge "Problem Report for iDVD" with hundreds of lines of information? This happens right before the DVD would be finished burning but instead crashes and leaves the long report your have to scroll down several times to read. I had to take several screen captures of the screen to get the WHOLE report. Here is two:
(If there is another thread on this - just answer the question or refer me to it. I'm past due on a big project. Don't have time to read all 21,000 discussions in the iDVD thread. Be kind. Thanks )Some things to try first:
1. Disconnect any and all 3rd party devices that didn't ship with your mac directly from apple (both FW and USB included).
2. Restart your mac without any 3rd party devices attached whatsoever. That includes ext. hard drives, blue tooth devices, and any third party memory product/s. Basically, anything that doesn't come directly from apple has to go (at least while troubleshooting).
3. Need you to dispose of the plist for iDvd also. Go to you Home folder, the one that looks like a house > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iDvd.plist and drag and drop this file/s to the trash. Make sure to first quit iDvd prior to disposing of this pref. file/s.
4. Run apple's disc utility and repair permissions. Applicantions > Utilities > Disc Utility > Repair Permissions.
5. Restart your mac yet again, and try iDvd one more time.
6. If it's still at issue then please open iDvd from a separate user account and try your project one more time. If you don't know how to create a separate user account then just come on back and one of will show you how.

I just bought a brand new iPhone 5s and a huge problem is that when i try to sync my music to my iPhone 5s, under the music tab it says that i can only access my music via iCloud. is there anyway to sync your music from your computer?????
The ! sign before the song means that the actual song is no longer on your computer and/or iTunes library.
