LORD,
Why are you installing 11.1.1.4 on a new environment? You should either pick 11.1.2.1 or 11.1.2.2 at this time.
The only good reason to put 11.1.1.4 on is when patching an existing environment.

  • Disable Intel CPU Hyper threading in Oracle RAC environment

    Dear Expert,
Does disable CPU hyper threading will have direct impact or maybe unexpected behavior to Oracle RAC database?
Actually the background of this question is we have many received packet queuing on the network layer waiting to be processed. Investigation leads to the processor utilization which shows that many processor are still in idle state or not used when the other processors are busy processing incoming request.
I have visited some oracle note like
CPU Count Consideration for Oracle Parameter Setting When Using Hyper-Threading Technology (Doc ID 289870.1)
Oracle and Hyper-Threading (Doc ID 205089.1)
Using PROCESSOR_GROUP_NAME to bind a database instance to CPUs or NUMA nodes (Doc ID 1585184.1)
These document already give useful information but i wonder if there is any possibilities risk or another consideration of disabling cpu hyper threading.
Please let me know if any other information required.
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    Jolly

As far as I know it is set as cpu architecture and mobile chips don't have the option. Not 100% as I've never needed to do it.
Better bet would be to check Intel ark and forums with them I expect.

  • Installing ODI 11 on a single server Hyperion 11.1.2.1 environment

We have a single server Dev EPM (Hyp 11.1.2.1) environment (HP, HPCM, HFM, FDM), which is working over all fine. We now would like to use ODI for data and metadata loads. Our plan is to install ODI 11.1.1.6 on the same server where we have the above full EPM stack installed/Configured already. I did a quick study online before attempting ODI, below are the challenges I am facing.
    1. I believe ODI requires Weblogic, hence tried to extend or create a new weblogic domain with the already exsiting weblogic installation of EPM. However weblogic create/extend domain screen does not have ODI in the list of "supported products"?
    2. Do I need to install a fresh copy of weblogic to be able to install ODI or can I use the existing weblogic installation?
Kindly share your thoughts and experiences in this regard.

    959658, Thanks for your comments.
I tried it and it throws the below error/message
INST-07247: Specified Middleware home location is either not valid or missing
enter a valid Middleware home location
I get this error only if I choose to install J2EE Components. I read some docs and understand that J2EE components are primarily used for HA and clustering, apart from this is there anything other major functionality that J2EE components provide? Just want to see what is it that we will miss if we choose to go without J2EE for now given it is a Dev environment.
When you say you were able to proceed with existing installation of weblogic, did you extend or create a weblogic domain to support ODI? cause it looks like the existing EPM weblogic domain does not support ODI.

  • Error 2927 when creating VM from template to remote SMB storage or CSV volume.

Hi everybody! When you try to create a VM from a template cause an error (2927), this occurs only if I create a VM on remote SMB storage or CSV volume, if I create a VM from a template on a local repository server (local disk C:\ for example) Hyper-V,
while no such problem and everything goes well. Already during the week I can not solve this problem, and  and tried many methods but they do not help. Please help me to solve this problem. OS 2012R2 with last update, VMM2012R2 with last update.
    Thx!

Yes I have installed UR2 for VMM and also applied the T-SQL script, I created new test environment, added Hyper-V hosts in my environment.

  • Managing Software Updates

    Hi All
Apologies for the noob question but ive just started using System Centre VMM to manage my Hyper-V Nodes. I am looking for a way to automate the Windows Update Process across not only my Physical hyper-V nodes but also all the Virtual Servers that I run across
    the Estate.
I understand that I can import a WSUS into VMM, sync the updates and create a Baseline, which works perfectly for my Physical Servers.
However, what would be the best way to manage updates against the same baseline for all the Hyper-V Virtual Machines? Is this done through VMM or Configuration Manager normally? Or would I simply add each individual Virtual Machine as an Infastructure server
which would then allow me to run my baseline against it.
I have about 15 Hosts and 100 VMs across the Entire Estate, my goal would be to create a standard Baseline for All Systems and then bring them upto this level, and repeat this process on a periodic basis.
    Any feedback greatly received.
    Thanks
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
You will have more control updating VM's with SCCM than VMM. So if you have an option to update VM's from SCCM, than do that and use VMM to update Hyper-V Host. This is the recommended approach, especially if you have any Hyper-V Clusters in your environment
    - you do not want to update all the nodes in a cluster at a same time.
You can connect the same WSUS server to SCCM and VMM, but remember to manage wsus configuration changes only from SCCM, not from VMM. There is a checkbox in VMM for "Allow Update Server configuration changes" which you would deselect.

  • Importing Virtual Machines

I have a hyper-v server that got the BSOD so I reinstalled the OS and my machines were saved on another drive.  I tried to import the vms but I can't get the network connectivity going.  I created a virtual switch (VLAN 98 Port 1) but its not
allowing me to connect to anything from the virtual machine.  Please help.  Thanks.

    NOC, I'll assume you're using Server 2012 R2 on your Hyper-V host.
    I recommend the following steps:
    - Verify your Hyper-V settings like:
It's domain joined (you'll need that for live-migration)
Check Hyper-V setting. Make sure your Virtual Hard Disk and Virtual Machine settings default to where you want them. Check Live-migration and storage migration settings. Make sure they match the standard set for your environment.
Check your Virtual Switch Manager settings. vSwitch name must match exactly the same vSwitch name on other Hyper-V hosts in your environment to allow live-migration. It's typically set as an external switch. Make sure it's connected the correct NIC from
the drop down menu (the one with access to VLAN 98 in your case). If you want to give the parent partition access to this VLAN check the Allow Management OS.. box. If your physical switch port is configured as truck port (no VLAN 802.1q tagging) check the
Enable VLAN ID.. box and enter the VLAN ID 98 below that.
    - If we're talking about a handful of VMs (under 10), you can recreate them from scratch using the VHDX files. Point the VM disks to the existing disks. You don;t need any files from the old VMs except the VHD/VHDX files. Setup memory/cores/vNICs/... In
most environments you would have this documented some where.. Assuming your physical switch port is configured as trunk port, you would VLAN tag your frames for each VM NIC. Check the Enable VLAN ID and enter the VLAN ID.
Finally start the VM, log in with local admin credentials. The VM will have a new VNIC because of new MAC address presented by the new Hyper-V host. Enter the static IP desired, and verify communication (ping) other machines on the 98 VLAN.
    - If we're talking about dozens or hundreds of VMs, I recommend using Powershell. Most of the scripts you'll need for this task can be found here http://superwidgets.wordpress.com/category/powershell/

  • Ora VM 3.2.2 + AMD Opteron 6100 series: hard partitioning

    Hello,
    I've Ora VM 3.2.2 server on Proliant DL385 G7 with 2 x Opteron 6100 processor.
Please confirm (or disprove) my speculation, that every core, displayed by

    Output from this is:

    CPU0 0 0 0
    CPU1 1 0 0
    CPU2 2 0 0
    CPU3 3 0 0

    CPU22 10 1 3
    CPU23 11 1 3
When I need virtual guest with 3 CPU, can I use only
3 CPU from this list? Isn't in AMD case avalilable any technology
like "INTEL hyperthreading" (from licensing viewpoint)?
    Thank you in advice
    Vladislav Rames

I have 2 HP Blade c7000 enclosures approx half full of HP Blades all AMD (g1s to g7s) as well as many other rack mounted servers. I don't run any hyper-thread cores in my environment.
My understanding is that AMD cores are real cores and need to be licensed as such. If you use HT cores you may have to license them (I don't know). I personally multi-box multiple copies of the same game client on my HP Envy 17 3D which has in i7 with 4 real cores & 4 HT cores & I try to never run my clients on HTs (the MB software allows me to skip the HTs). I definitely see a difference in frame rates and performance if I forget to configure to not use HT cores... If I wouldn't do it to myself I wouldn't do it to my users either... That being said Oracle may count HT cores as real cores for licensing so I wouldn't pin them for that reason alone if they do.

  • How to allocate resources to different groups????

I have a Hyper-V 2012 R2 lab environment. I need to allocate resources to different groups. For example, how can I allocate 60% of hyper-v resources (compute and storage) to group A and 40% to group B. How do I accomplish this? I was thinking that the
answer may be Microsoft Virtual Machine Manager, but I'm not sure.
The infrastructure is multiple clustered Hyper-V 2012 R2 servers connected to an EquilLogic  PS6xxx

Yes, you can use VMM to create separate "Clouds" for different user groups and distribute fabric resources to these private clouds. See
Creating a Private Cloud in VMM Overview for more information.

  • Are there any concerns with running Cisco VSS in a MS Hyper-V Environment?

    Hello,
I'm in the process of purchasing dual 6807-XL switches that will run in a VSS configuration and I was wondering if there are any concerns or items I should be cognitive about?  We are a MS Hyper-V shop in the arena of server virtualization.  Although I don't work on any of the servers as I handle all network-related operations, I would still like to know of any "gotchas" before I install/configure our new chassis.  I guess what I'm looking for is interoperability issues in relation to a VM environment when running a network core using VSS.  Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    TLock

    Reza,
I have another question regarding VSS I thought I'd post here rather than to a new DB.  According to Cisco, "If for some rare reason all VSL connections are lost between the virtual switch members leaving both the virtual switch members up, the VSS will transition to the dual active recovery mode (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-6500-virtual-switching-system-1440/prod_qas0900aecd806ed74b.html)."  How does this affect traffic for switches connected via MEC?  Will it began using STP/MST, if configured, for switches with dual links to different chassis?  Just curious.  I plan on testing various scenarios prior to putting these chassis into production by simulating some of the common network outages we've had in the past.  Thanks in advance!

  • Can you use an application in hyper-v environment in Windows server from each client computer or that is not possible?

    hi,
I like to know besides running 2 or more operating systems, like exchange or SQL  ect .
what other benefits it has for example when you install 2-3  applications in t hyper_v environment can you use those applications from each client computer or that is not possible at all. ( I don't mean cloud )
    thanks

    thanks,
so , now what is the benefit of hyper-v role on essential 2012r2 .  it that means that I can install only one operating system on it only one instance and no more. also I can run some applications on this server  just like you say with RDP licence
for each user to acces this virtual server!
and if I want more instances then I have to get datacenter.

  • Problems converting a 2008 R2 server into a Hyper-V environment.

    Hello.
I have a 2008 R2 Standard server running on a IBM 3650 M4 platform and I wish to convert this to a vm so that I can run this in my Hyper-V environment, but I'm running into some trouble as I do so.
I have used the latest version of "disk2vhd.exe" to create the vhdx-file and had no problems during this procedure, but when I create a new vm and attach the disk I will not boot.  The first and only thing that appears when
started is a blinking prompt in top left corner.
The Hyper-V manager is running on a 2012 R2 Standard.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You can do P2V (esp. for test & development) but for true production workload you'd better provision your VMs from scratch. If you still need that particular VM P2V'ed then make sure you re-boot in in service mode to initiate storage and network stacks
drivers set re-build as physical and virtualized hardware are quite different.
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Capturing in Hyper-V environment

I have a complex training environment set up in a hyper-v environment.  It consists of 6 different servers with different applications on each server.  I am trying to create simulations within this environment but cannot get Captivate to take screenshots let alone add text boxes and click boxes.  The print screen button won't work either.  I have a work around for getting the screen shot but I have to touch each slide and manually add every interactions.  Has anyone worked with Captivate and Hyper-V?  Hyper-V is installed on a server 2008 machine.  My captivate is on Vista and I have tried installing on both, and remoting in to the server 08 machine.

    Hi Claudia,
No I never captured anything in the Hyper-V environment. I just hoped that my suggestions could help you out ;o)
I have had similar experiences with other programs, where I had to capture each screen manually by using Print-screen through a remote desktop session and then adding the interactions in Captivate manually. This was a project with an accounting system that was accessed through a IE webbrowser. If I tried to record / capture anything through Captivate like I would normally do, then the application simply shut down. Finally we figured out that apparantly Captivate "hijacks" some browser functionality and that the accounting system interpreted this as a hacking attempt and simply closed down. We had to use remote desktop to be able to even grab the needed screenshots from the application.
The only thing I can think of is that Captivate is not supported on Windows Server 2008 (which I also suppose is a x64 system since you use Hyper-V) and that is why you can't record when it's installed locally on the server. When you try to remote in to the server, then you won't be able to get Captivate to add the captions etc. automatically unfortunately since the application you are recording is not the "active layer" for Captivate.
Maybe someone else has some suggestions that can help you.
