Hyperlinks go dead when I publish!!?

Everything works in iWeb. I replace the template menu links with my own (so I can control font, size, and placing). This has worked on two other sites.
But this time, when I publish the site to a folder all hyperlinks cease to work. Quicktime Videos also lock up, cease to work.
If I go back to the template menu items at the top, everything works. Only the template items are either badly placed, or the wrong color. I know how to change the hyperlink colors, but not the 'template menu link' colors (nor the placing).
Any help would be most appreciated.
Ben

Hi Jabberwock,
It FEELS as if there is some layer covering the links ... but I do a very careful look and can't find a thing. The 'template' menu links do work when published. But my homemade menu links (text - hyperlink) seem to freeze all links and Quicktime Video clips. Here are some of the pages, and 1 video clip link. I've done two other sites exactly the same way as this, with my own navigation menu, and had no problem.

  • Hyperlinks not opening when site published to folder... suggestions please!

I have published an iWeb site to a folder so I can burn the contents onto DVD for students, rather than putting it out on the www.
A PDF file I have hyperlinked to opens fine when I visit the site. A powerpoint show and a word doc however do not. When those hyperlinks are clicked, it opens the folder that it is published to, with the correct file in it, and with that file highlighted. This needs to be clicked on to open the file. How can I get the files to open as soon as the hyperlink is clicked?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You can't unless you publish your site to either MobileMe or a server. Your students will probably not be able to open the files that you have linked to anyway if you burn your site to a DVD, as if you have published your site to a folder, then all your files will be on your hard drive and not on a server, as is the case if you had published your site.
With all links to files, if you publish your site to a server, then all the relevant files are uploaded to your server and this is not the case if you publish to a local folder - this is where your files are and the links are created to where your documents are on your computer. If you want the files too, then you need to ensure that you burn those to a DVD.
Why not publish your site to the web as was intended. Publishing to a folder is only really meant as a way of checking out what your site looks like before publishing or for uploading purposes.

  • Hyperlinks are dead when Pages file is exported as a PDF

When I export a file from Pages '09, version 4.0.5, to a PDF file, the hyperlinks do not work. The Pages help menu states "Hyperlinks in your Pages document are exported to the PDF file. Hyperlinks are also created in the PDF file for table of contents entries, footnotes and endnotes, webpages, email addresses, and bookmarks." I am opening the PDF files in Acrobat Reader. What is the problem here?

I discovered the problem. Being new to Pages, I did not realize that the text layer had to be in front of the transparent shapes that I was using as backgrounds, in order for the links to be clickable in a pdf file.
For sure, putting background objects *_at front_* is not a good idea

  • Picture hyperlinks not working when published? Please help....

Some of the hyperlinks to my pictures do not work when I publish to my folder. I´ve tried to empty Safaris cache but it still doesn´t work. Please help me, pretty urgent....

    hi briebrie,
this is common mistake, see my post in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4004970#4004970
The work around is to leave iWeb default nav bar and header enabled, add your home made nav bar (outside/below of iWeb default nav bar).
Then turn off iWeb nav bar and header when you are done.

  • In iWeb I created a hyperlink to a file on my computer. When I publish I get a 404 error for the link.  Can anyone help?

In iWeb I created a hyperlink to a file on my computer. When I publish I get a 404 error for the link.  Can anyone help?

How would I check to see if the like works when I enable via the inspector pane
If you enable hyperlinks when you click on the link link to the pdf file it will open a browser window and display the pdf file.
I upload the pdf files to the server and link to them as if they were an external web page:
That's been more reliable for me than linking to the file as Link To: A file and have iWeb upload the pdf file to the serve.

  • Hyperlinks don't work after publishing

Hope someone can help. I've had the same site up and running smoothly for a couple of years. Recently added some photo pages. Today, when I published the site to Mobile Me, the links stopped working. I didn't add any new links. Only the navigation bar on the new pages. I checked to make sure hyperlinks were active using the inspector, and they are. To see if something I did with the new pages was the culprit, I deleted both photo pages. All that work! Still, the hyperlinks work while I'm working in iWeb, just not on the published website. The website is www.toysfortotsmedford.org. Hope someone can help. Thanks!
    Nancy

    Bonjour
    It's a Layout trouble.
Your textbox on iWeb becomes a text image on your website (shadow over the text?).
    http://www.toysfortotsmedford.org/Site3/Welcome_files/shapeimage2.png
it overlays the whole page (and the menu).
iWeb > Show > Show Layout > Check this textbox (size and position)
and remove the shadow over the text.
The navigation menu works perfectly on the other pages

  • Why when I publish template to FCPX the design appears as a thumbnail but the view shows the red warning screen with the Number 2?

why when I publish template to FCPX the design appears as a thumbnail but the view shows the red warning screen with the Number 2?

That is priceless!!!  Thanks!  I sure needed a good laugh after spending/wasting hours & days trying to either get my c6280 to give up on its Ink System Failure fixation, or find a decent replacement.  Unfortunately I need the Smart Web Printing feature that I guess only HP has, or I'd try a different brand. And now even HP has very few models with that available.
My error msg is a little different from those previously stated, but close:  0xc18a0201.  Even tho there were frustrations with my c6280, I did like several of its unique features which are hard to find now under $100.  I hate how HP (& I suppose other brands also) are CONSTANTLY changing models & then of course ink cartridges.
Oh heavens, I've had the c6280 a whopping 2 1/2 years!   I'm sure they want us poor slobs to have to buy a new one every year & a day!  To say nothing of the exorbitant prices for ink.  And now if this one is really dead in the water, I have SIX unused #02 ink cartridges which I cannot return---I got them in a combo pack, & for some reason have wound up with THREE lite pink & THREE lite blue cartridges, while having to buy extras of the other colors, that ran out before the others!!!   Yeah, & what's with that not being able to print in BLACK if a color runs out????
Anyway I really loved your essay!   It's a classic!  And says it all!  I hate that we have to be 'slaves' to the electronic 'wonders'!!!

  • Hyperlinks Not Function After Being Published

    Hello,
I've recently switched over to iWeb 08 and really dig all the new functions. I am running into one spot of trouble and hope that someone might shed some light on it for me.
I've got a few images that I use as hyperlinks rather than text. The hyperlinks are fully functional while in iWeb and everything is fine in the inspector window, yet when I publish the site, the links are no longer operational. Some of the text links have now decided to stop working as well.
The non-functioning thumbnail links are at:
    http://www.lolabydesign.com/LolaByDesign/Bead_Gallery.html
The non-functioning text links are at:
    http://www.lolabydesign.com/LolaByDesign/Shop_Instructions.html
I publish to my desktop, then use Fetch to upload the files to my host at netrfirms.
This seems kind of random as other links on the site work fine, and I have never run into this problem before.
Anyone have a quick fix for this one? As the images are thumbnails which point towards the full-size image, using text is not an option in this case.
    Thanks in advance!
    ~Lola

    Hi,
    there's this shapeimage
    http://www.lolabydesign.com/LolaByDesign/ShopInstructions_files/shapeimage4.png
in front of the links, thus they do not work.
If you can send that to back (select, ctrlclicksend back)
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • Does the file format differ when you Publish locally to hard drive vs. to the Connect Pro server?

I notice that when I publish locally to my hard drive to review a set of slides, I see a folder full of files. If I click on index.htm within the folder, I can launch the slides.
When I publish to the Adobe Connect Pro server, I merely see a url for the link to the course.
I'm not sure what this url link represents (as far as the file format is concerned):
Has the presentation been converted to different file format than what is published on my local drive? If so, what format is it in?
If  the presentation has not been converted, does the directory structured published to my local drive get replicated on the Adobe Connect Pro server, and the url is merely a link to the "starting file " within that folder (say, index.htm)?

The published output does not differ between publishing locally and publishing to Connect. The URL on the Connect server does, ultimately, point to the Index.htm or viewer.swf file.

  • When I publish my site on one specific page where i've added {tag_pagecontent} I get the error:Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect. Clear browser cache and try again. If the problem persists please contact website author.

When I publish my site on one specific page where I've added {tag_pagecontent} I get the error:
'Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect. Clear browser cache and try again. If the problem persists please contact website author.'
I'm trying to get a blog module going, I've even deleted the html insert bog with the tag in and re-published which then I don't get the error but as a result no blog either. But then I add the tag in again and publish the error comes back. I've used the dev console and it says that my musicians sample.css is out of date but why is it only out of date when I add in html to my muse site?
HELP!!!! I've searched other threads and to no avail I'm publishing so no direct ftp going on. the only thing I changed in business catalyst was the module stylesheet in order to style the blog. I've tried uploading and replacing all files nothing seems to work. the site is here:
    http://www.musicstudentsforhire.co.uk/musicians-samples.html
It's only this page as it has the blog on. Also I've noticed when I've re-published occasionally it will show the mobile version on my desktop and not the desktop version??? no idea why that's happening so I've had to turn that off. any explanation on why that is happening would also be much appreciated.

I haven't received an answer as of yet, I'll post t on here when I do. I de-activated the mobile site because it's my clients site so he needs it to be operational during the day. I hope someone gives me an answer soon.

Just in-case anyone els runs into this, I figured it out... I was working from my hotel and apperantly the fire wall was not allowing anything to uplaod, but I wasn't getting an error message from iweb, it would say that everything was published succesfully even though it wasn't. Once I went home and used my connection eveything worked fine.

  • Some of my images do not show up (some do) when I publish a Dreamweaver document

Here's my problem: I have been working on a web site, using Dreamweaver CS6. Working on a mac with 10.6.8. The site has several pages, and several of these pages have several images each. All the images are jpgs. Some are RGB files, drawn from digital cameras. The others are grayscale files, drawn from scans from drawings.
On some pages there are no problems. But there is one page of drawings that has three tables--one table has eight cells that each have an RGB image--fine, no problem. Another table has two cells that each have a grayscale image. Also fine. The final table has eight cells that each have a grayscale image. In Dreamweaver the page looks fine, and when I "preview in browser," it looks fine. But when i publish the page, only one of the images is visible. with Safari or Firefox I can determine that there is a file there somewhere, what its name is--but they don't recognize it as an image, and in fact I get a "404" response.
I have examined the code, and can't find ANY difference ebtween the images thast work and those that don't. I have examined the images, and there are no differences among them that I can find--and there shouldn't be.
I tried just creating a new page, and had the same problem with these images.
The one image among the 8 that shows up only did that when i changed iits location in the directory--but changing the location of other files didn't work.
Any ideas? I have gone over and over the files, the code, the information about the links for hours; this is making me very crazy.

OK you need to upload these images to your remote server because they are missing from the server or that they have gone to a different folder.

In future always define your site correctly with all folders and file names without spaces in them.  For example "drawings 20" is not a good name.  You should rename it to "drawings20".
When you have corrected this especially when you have uploaded the photos again then they will appear all right on the page.  after that you need to validate your pages for correct HTML and CSS but this can wait for now.
    Good luck.

  • "Search" is missing when i publish to a folder

I've been looking for the answer for 2 days, but no one seems have symptoms like mine.
    anyhow...
when i publish to a folder, everything works fine including RSS subscribe but, search field is gone in the blog and podcast pages.
everything else is there on the place, except missing search field.
So, i registered .Mac 60 days free and it's working on .Mac. But in local folder and on my non .Mac server it doesn't show up.
I don't want to buy .Mac for me it's not worth. and i just bought non .mac server just two days ago.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
and if you have any idea using comment on blog for non .mac server, please let me know. i use iComment and working well. but it doesnt' look good

Blog Search is a feature only enabled when publishing to .Mac. If you publish to a folder, the search won't publish. It's in the iWeb Help.

  • Problems overwriting when I publish to a folder

When I publish to a folder the updated content of my website I get an error message like "files can be damaged or you don´t have enough privileges to do this". I have to delete all the folder and publish it again in a new folder.
Does anyone know how to solve it?
    Thank´s

Publishing to a folder is all or nothing.
Either say yes to replace the folder or publish to another location and only replace the page (including the folder that's used by that page) you updated.
As an added note, you should never put custom stuff in such a folder after publishing.

When I publish to a folder and post to my Verizon web space I get a 404 (not found) error on slideshows. Did you use an ftp program to upload to Verizon? Can you verify that you have the same files and structure on both servers? I'm wondering if something got left out in the Verizon space.
