You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

I'm tring to install a d2 quadra external drive but can't use the setup assistant because "PowerPC Applications are no longer supported". Anyone have any ideas?
You shouldn't need to install anything just to use the drive. Just connect it to your Mac and it should mount. If it's the Intego Backup Assistant you're trying to install, try the latest version which you can download here:

You can’t open the application “Internet Explorer.app” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
Why are you using IE?
If some site is requiring IE, set your user agent string to claim your using IE.
What is my user agent?

iCab - The Taxi for the Internet

Has a pulldown for picking your user agent string.
There is a safari plugin.

When trying to setup my external hard drive, I get this box that pops up and says this:
You can’t open the application “LaCie Setup Assistant” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.PowerPC was a type of processor used in Mac systems before Apple switched to Intel-based processors. These older chips required applications to be coded differently, to the extent that they will not run on the Intel processors in newer Macs. Apple used to include a translator that allowed these programs to at least run, but this translator is no longer available so if you run into an older PowerPC-based program then OS X will give you this error.

I installed Lion 10.7.4. Went to use Photoshop Cs and got a popup window. You can't open the application Adobe Photoshop CS because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Is there a way of getting this to work or do I have to get newest version of all of my Power PC apps?
Welcome to Apple Communities
PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
4. Install it in the new partition
5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7 -
I just upgraded to OS X Lion and now I can't open the application Adobe ImageReady CS because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
There is no fix. It simply means that the software is outdated. Adobe would need to release a newer non-PPC version that supports Lion. They may have done that already, I don't know.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion my 2004 office will no longer work! I get a power pc is no longer supported? I thought I did something? Nope just apple making us assume the position again!
Is there a patch for this or have to shell out another $100 plus dollars??I wouldn't blame Apple for this. Technology evolves rapidly. MS Office 2004 is 2 generations old and became obsolete 3+ years ago, long before the advent of Lion, much less Mt. Lion. And you need to understand it was written even earlier, in the 2002 time frame. That's really old, technologically speaking. I wouldn't even consider trying to run it on Lion, much less Mt. Lion.
It's time to move on. Get MS Office 2011, it's the current release and frankly is much improved and more secure than Office 2004 ever was. -
How do i fix this? I spent a lot of money on this program and now i cant even use it because i got a new laptop? (Lion)
You can't fix it. PowerPC programs do not run on Lion. extended support for PPC apps was dropped after 5 years. You need 10.6 or prior to run that program.

Im New To Mac (obviously) Do I Need To Download A Supplemental App To Use It? If So What Is The App Called?
Applications designed to run only on the PowerPC processors in the Macs of five and more years ago can't run on new Macs under the Lion operating system. If the authors of your textbooks and the software that accompanies them haven't updated their software in all that time, you can't use it on your Mac. There is no workaround.
PS: Your posts would be much easier for others to read if you used standard capitalization instead of capitalizing every word. -
I downloaded Maverick X 9.2 on my Mac Air. I get this error message: "You can't open the application "microsoft Word" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Help?

after migration to a new macbook i cannot open photoshop. I get error message "you can't open this application "adobe photoshop cs" because powerpc applications are no longer supported"
You cannot run Photoshop CS on a new Intel-based Mac running OS X Mavericks. CS is far too old.
You'll have to buy Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Elements 12. Or subscribe to CC. -
You can't open the applicationNovamediaDiskSupressor because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
I'm new to this, so forgive my ignorance, but when I tried to go to "Applications" to repost, the only options I saw were iChat, AppleWorks, and something else; I did not see "Utilities" > "Console".
However, I did try what Linc posted and it seems to be working so far. I think when I was in Malaysia and used a local aircard, it installed some Vodaphone PPC software onto Snow Leapord, which once I updated to Lion, no longer agreed. -
You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported?
What does this mean? I just bought a digital game from the Blizzard company the makers of Warcraft and Starcraft but I cant install the game. Its says that "PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Another route I tried as I was just messing around trying to figure it out then it said "cant run in "DOS mode"
Welcome Moraco !
Warcraft 3 works great on my macbook (10.8.3)
The installation was made on 10.5
I use this game on 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8
May be you don't have the universal binary patch installed.
Try to download the dmg on Battle.net web site after registration.
Then try to install the game and tell us. -
Please help with the message I am receving on startup ""You can't open the application NovamediaDiskSupressor because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I have read some of the replies in the Apple Support Communities, but as I am no techie, I would have no idea how I would implement that solution.
Please help with what I need to type, how, where, etc.
Many thanks
AppleSueIn HunterCreekI am afraid there is no solution.
PowerPC refers to the processing chip used by Apple before they transferred to Intel chips. They are very different, and applications written only for PPC Macs cannot work on a Mac running Lion.
You could contact the developers to see if they have an updated version in the pipeline. -
Can someone please advise on resolving issue I cant open an important application because powerpc apps are no longer supported. what to do please
using macbook airiOS doesn't run on MacBook Airs.
Use this tip to identify your MacBook Air:
How to find your Mac's model and age?
Only MacBook Air 4,1 and later can't run Snow Leopard natively.
That said, there are options with this tip if it turns out you do have that MacBook Air or a later one:
