I am at a loss maybe it is a faulty Express

Ok so I have read page after page of ideas but none are working, I currently have an Airport  Extreme supplying wifi and ethernet cable internet to multiple devices this comes from a DSL modem/router.  I need to get wifi access further down the house but every time I try to extend the current wifi network I am getting nothing, the new airport express will show it is fine with a green light and the setup isn't showing any issues but I have no extra distance with the wifi signal.  If i join an existing network using a cable from the Extreme to the new Express, I am then no longer able to access any webpages, once unplugged and turned off everything will work properly as it did before the introduction of the Express.  I have a spare LAN port where I need the wifi extension hence the original idea was to extend the network though the LAN cable and plug the Express into the wall socket and have a roaming network with better signal at that end of the house.  I am only running Snow Leopard on my Macs (desktop and macbook) and my Extreme reports a Double Nat issue but has done since I set it up.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I could be doing wrong or is it possible i have a faulty Express.  And if it means anything my Express is a refurbished unit from Apple.
Thanks in advance

OK, thank for the update. The next step is to setup the AirPort Express to extend the signal from the AirPort Extreme using Ethernet
If the Express is powered up, power it off for a full minute
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously power up the Express. This is tricky...you almost need 3 hands to do this.
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
I assume that you have already tested the Ethernet cable to verify that it is working correctly
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express
Open AirPort Utility on your Mac
Select the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the row of icons
Type in a name that you want to call the AirPort Express
Type in a device password for the Express
Verify the password
Set time automatically and choose your Time Zone
No other boxes need to be adjusted
Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as the AirPort Extreme network
Radio Mode = Automatic
Radio Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = WPA2 or the same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme network
Verify Password
Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window
Wait a full minute for the Express to restart
You are done

  • GPS lock-loss - maybe a solution

tested a bit with the settings and had a success yesterday
while navigating for 100 km. i didnt lose the lock, although i
still have the problem that the device cant get a lock without
    a-gps. it takes forever.
but for the lock-loser and "recalculating route" i maybe found a
    solution.
please someone try it and tell me your results....

Has anyone still having problems tried this Apple
    article??
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
I have seen the article. The problem I seem to have is that the Ipod shows up in the device manager but not in the disk management section for me to do anything with it.
I did get it working on the Compaq - followed same steps on the Dell with no luck.
I completely removed everything - restarted the computer
from Apple.com downloaded Ipod updater (newest version) itunes and quickplace.
    restarted the computer
    reset the ipod
    connected the ipod
the hardware was found by the computer as an ipod, then as a storage device (drive F).
    that's where I sit
    any ideas?

  • I am at a total loss. I received am airport express to replace a netgear router. I need a step by step list of how to get it working. I am not very technical

I am trying to get an airport express to work, it is replacing a netgear router. Tried following the directions that came with it plus suggestions sent to me  but so  far I am not able to get things going. Can anyone send me a step by step list from start to finish and also explain what numbers, passwords etc that I would have to install. I am the stupid in the KISS method of doing things

    Hi doctorshane
Your router is the heart of your network. Replacing one changes everything.
    Please follow Philly_Phan's instructions here:
My airport express won't stop flashing amber and I can't figure out how to hock it up.ihad a router which worked fine
To which I would add: disconnect your modem from power and let it rest a moment while you configure your Express. Make it a habit to do this whenever you change the device connected to a cable or DSL modem. Most modems will refuse to communicate with anything new, until its memory has been reset with a power cycle.
If you still have difficulty please explain where you are getting stuck. If you reply in that thread, not this one, it would help others with your problem. Don't begin a new question unless the recommendations you receive are getting nowhere or your question doesn't get any replies after a day or so. Philly_Phan's instructions are correct so follow them.
Otherwise, you are likely to repeatedly receive the same advice and will fail to achieve any progress.

  • Loss of internet connection thru airport express

    Hi
Every time I download software updates I lose my internet connection.
I then have great difficulty in re-connecting. I have tried using the lock on the network connections to keep the settings , but for some reason the lock is unlocked after a period of time even though I have not requested it. I suspect that there may be a conflict between the keychain access and the airport express but I cannot prove this for sure. Does anyone have any suggestions ?
    Fred

Lost connections, slow connections and difficulty connecting can all be due to a noisey phone line. I have a dedicated modem line that was giving me all of these problems. I connected a phone to it and listened, the the noise was terrible. Turns out the phone line was rubbing against a tree and shorting out a half mile away. Now it's fixed, and works great.

  • NIC teaming creates packet loss (Windows 2008 R2)?

I'm experiencing some packet loss to all of our VMs that we didn't have before we made some changes to our Hyper-V implementation (Windows 2008 R2). Most of the VMs also run 2008 R2 - with 3 that run Server 2003.
The host server is a Dell R610 with three 4 port NICS - two Intel quad port gigabit and a quad port Broadcom.
We us the individual ports of the Broadcom for host management and live migration - no problems here. We use the Intel cards for both iSCSI and VM networks. Calling the two intel cards “A” and “B”, and the ports P1-4 we've used AP1, AP2, BP1, BP2 (ports
1 & 2 of both Intel NICs) for iSCSI connections, and we've created a NIC Team with AP3, AP4, BP3, and BP4 (ports 3 and 4 of both Intel NICs). The team type is "Virtual Machine Load Balancing". We then created a Hyper-V switch based on this team
for use with all of the VMs created on the host. (as a side note: prior to implementing the NIC team, we just had 4 Hyper-V switches, one associated with each of these 4 ports.)
The 4 ports of the NIC team are connected to two different Cisco SG200 switches - AP3 and BP3 are connected to switch1, and AP4 and BP4 are connected to switch2 (in an attempt to maximize redundancy). The two Cisco SG200s are simply connected to the rest
of our network - each to a different switch within the subnet. There is minimal configuration done to the SG200s (for example NO
link aggregation); spanning tree is enable however.
My question is: can the network cables be connected to different switches (as they currently are) and if so is there some configuration piece (either on the switch or within Windows) that I'm missing?
What are the options here if this configuration is incorrect? The packet loss is in the range of 0.1%, but we've had odd spikes where a VM was essentially unavailable for a brief period (a few minutes) then returned to "normal" (0,1% loss).
Pinging a device (like the SG200 itself) or another physical server (for example our domain controller or the hyper-v host itself) results in essentially 0 loss; maybe one or two packets during the course of a 12 hour ping (this was the “normal” ping
response to VMs before we created the NIC team, so I’m quite sure this has something to do with it).
    Thanks in advance!

I believe when utilizing the Virtual Machine Load Balancing the ports must be connected to the same switch, stack, or chassis as the arp for the MAC could move.  I believe, although I could be wrong, that the outages you see is when the machine "moves"
between ports and the arp being updated between the two switches.
I believe you are looking for switch fault tolerance teaming which will allow for the failure of adapter, cabling, or switch which will achieve your goal of maximum redundancy.  This is achieved via spanning tree on the switches, which you indicated
    is already configured.

  • My macbook air was stolen from checked baggage. I have the box with all the information. Is there a way to disable this device?  Block it from my Yahoo email? Locate it? Any ideas?

HI, My Macbook Air was stolen this week from my checked baggage.
I have the box with all the information SN etc.. Is there a way to disable this device?  Block it from my Yahoo email? Locate it? Any ideas?

If you activated "Find My Mac" in iCloud before the loss, maybe. Otherwise no.

  • Liquid spill on the Macbook *sigh*

Okay, so yes. Red wine just spilled on my macbook. It spilled on the bridge between the display and keyboard, and immediately shorted out. I removed the battery and unplugged it and am now leaving it in a warm place, and I tried mopping up as much as possible. It's sitting sideways, draining out what's left inside.
My question is, where do I go from here? How long should I wait before trying to use it again, and what repair options are available?
It's a late 2007 Macbook, so it's still under hardware warranty, but I'd imagine I'd still have to pay if it's liquid damage.
    Thanks a bunch

The CPU/Northbridge/GPU all lie towards the back center of the notebook, where the fan and heatsink are. Since this is liquid damage, it won't be covered by warranty. I would wait significantly longer than a day - several days, or even a week would be better. Ideally, you should remove the top cover of the computer at least, to ensure that ALL the liquid fully evaporates. However, you will still be left with the residue from the wine.
I personally would not bother taking it into the Apple Store; in all likelihood, the computer is fried. All Apple will be able to do for you is offer to send the machine in for assessment, and give you a repair quote. From personal experience, replacing a Macbook logic board is not cost-effective. It's nearly the cost of a new Macbook, and when you factor in the possibility that other components may have been damaged....it won't get any cheaper. My suggestion would be to cut your losses, maybe sell the bricked computer "as-is" on eBay, and get yourself a new one. You can remove the hard disk and put it inside a hard drive enclosure to see if you can retrieve all your data.
If you are technically inclined, you could try to replace the logic board yourself by buying a good, used one. However, if other components besides the logic board were damaged, you might find yourself with a still broken computer, and out a few hundred dollars anyway. But this is another potential option nonetheless.

  • Express to modem issue.

I'm setting up a friend who is a recent converter to MAC.
Comcast three in one modem phone/tv-cable/internet.
I plug the modem to the express. and then I check it on her laptop. I'm communicating wirelessly just fine from macbook to express. updated the software and everything.
But it wont go online. I've called comcast. They say its an apple thing.. lol (dont they always). lol.
Anyways any info would be great.
Side note: The internet works fine when plugged from the macbook right to the modem via ethernet cable.
    Thank you -Jeffg

I did do a full shutdown of the comcast box.
and still no connection but there is one thing i didnt do and that was pull out the backup battery on the comcast box.
it allows the box to function under a power loss. maybe i should try that. thank you

  • 3750's - Throughput Issue.

I have a throughput issue on 3750's that I cannot find a reason for.
Here are the models and SW versions:
Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
    1 28 WS-C3750G-24TS 12.2(20)SE C3750-I5-M
    * 2 52 WS-C3750-48TS 12.2(20)SE C3750-I5-M
    3 52 WS-C3750-48P 12.2(20)SE C3750-I5-M
I am encountering slow response between servers in one vlan and SOME clients in another vlan.
If I place a "SLOW CLIENT" in the same VLAN as the server (Same ports/cabling etc) the throughput problem goes away.
The intervlan routing takes place withing the stack itself and not externally.
I can find no reason for this behavior, CPU/Memory are well within limits.
I have been reading IOS release notes but can find no mention of this. I see no other people on this forum having similar issues.
Does anyone have any thoughts ?

If you have double checked the client and switchport settings to make sure they match exactly then I'm not sure . It could be something like this , at least soemthing to check.

Cisco has found occasional intermittent contact on the 3750 product
stacking cable when using the "Fox" labled speciified cables. The location
below shows a photograph of the label showing the word "Fox" printed on the
    label.
    Sjc-fs1\WG-D\DSBU-Escalation\Published\Bugs\CSCed30201\3750_Bad_Stacking_Cable_Label.doc
    WORKAROUND:
These "Fox" labeled cables should be replaced. Contact Cisco's TAC and
    request a cable only replacement.
No problem exists with the 3750 switch itself and should NOT be replaced.
The customer should be advised that the "Fox" labeled cable should be
destroyed so that the customer will not accidentally place the defective
cable back in service at some later time.
    BACKGROUND:
Failures were found in Cisco's DSBU lab that cause an intermittency resulting
    in reduced traffic speed.
Failure analysis was completed by the cable / receptical vendor. The failure
indicated a substandard design, with an out of tolerance tongue in the plug and
potential misalignment in the receptical. This vendor has been disqualified
    at this time.

  • Coding challenge suggestion

I received my introduction to Labview last summer with the Tic Tac Toe coding challenge and had a great time doing it!  I'm a bit suprised another one hasn't been run since then.  In keeping with the principle of Tic Tac Toe I have a few ideas for a coding challenge:
(These all are based around game theory concepts because that is what I find fun and interesting.)
In all of these games the winner of the match is the program that scores more points.  I propose the overall challenge winner is decided by W-L record from the matches rather than a sum of points from all matches.  I also think each match should be run with some known N number of games.  Having a known end point introduces some interesting decisions.
Prisoner's Dilemma - Straight 1v1 heads up play
    (Possible point values: A&B stay silent - 3, 3;  A defects & B stays silent - 5, 0;  A&B defect - 1, 1)
Since always choosing Defect guarantees against a loss, maybe there should be some minimum score that must be achieved in order to qualify for a win.  For example, given a match of 100 games, if A Defects every game while B employs the common Tit for Tat strategy, at the end of the game A will win with 104 points agaunst B's 99 points.  If both of them remain silent for the entire game each will score 300 points.  Maybe the qualification score should be 200 or so.
    Diner's Dilemma - A multiplayer version of Prisoner's Dilemma
Multi Choice Prisoner's Dilemma - A PD variant that allows each player more than one choice
"Consider the following two-player game: both players simultaneously choose a whole number from 0 to 3. Both players then win the smaller of the two numbers in points. In addition, if one player chooses a larger number than the other, then s/he has to give up two points to the other." Copied from Wikipedia
For example, if A choses 3 and B chooses 2, each player receives the small of the two numbers or 2 in this case.  Furthermore, A forfeits 2 of his points to B because he chose the higher number.  Final outcome for this game is A=0, B=4.

  • Some organs don't play in new Logic Express files after JamPacks installed

After loading only the instruments from the Symphony Orchestra and World Music GarageBand Jam Packs, I lost the ability to hear most of the organs available in Logic Express and all of the organs available in GarageBand after inserting them into Logic Express tracks. These same organ sounds still play in any Logic Express file set up prior to the installation of the JamPacks and they continue to play in GarageBand. Can an uninstall/reinstall of Logic Express 7.2.3 be a fix for this or is there an easier way to return the lost instruments to Logic Express?
1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Midisport 4x4, iControl

The loss of instrument sounds in Logic Express had nothing to do with the installation of GarageBand JamPacks. The midi channel setting in the Inspector box of the Arrange window in Logic Express needed to be set to channel 1 to get midi data from other than channel 1 to play some of the inserted CoreAudio instruments. I don't understand what's going on but now I'm able to get the instruments that would not play.

  • Mac Mini with DVI to video adapter REFUSES to display on TV!! Please help!!

I purchased an apple DVI to Video adapter - which says for Mac mini and power mac G5 on the package. However not matter what I do, I can't get a picture on my TV, I have tried on 2 TV's and I get nothing but blank screen on both, with occassional grey flicking.
I thought maybe the adapter was faulty so had it changed, the new one shows the exact same behaviour. I have started up in safe mode, with the TV connected and still nothing, I have reset the PRAM and still nothing. Trashed the windowserver plists - and still nothing!!
I have searched through the forums as much as I can and can't find any answers.
Someone please help me out and tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks very much.
    Naj

    Hi Thesserax,
Thanks for your reply, however I have already tried your suggestions - my tv's do not let me switch manually between PAL/NTSC, and I am definately on the correct channel.
I also tried connecting it to the TV and VNC'ing into it to try to change the resolution, however I although I see the correct CRT resolution opions i.e. 800x600 and 1024x768 only, I notice that I don't see any tv specific options such as overscan, and that the rates are stuck at 60Hz (NSTC) - I am in europe so the tv is PAL 50Hz and the adapter is also labelled PAL.
    Any other ideas, please?
    Thank you

  • How to connect two thunderbolt devices to Macbook Air?

I have been using an Apple thunderbolt to VGA adapter to connect my digital projector to a Macbook Air.  Now I need to also connect a pro audio firewire mixer, which has a firewire 400 cable.  If I didn't have to connect the projector as well, I presume that the way to go would be to use an Apple thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter with an 800 to 400 adapter on the end, but as I have two devices I am rather stumped.
I know that thunderbolt/mini display is for daisy chaining, so there isn't such a thing as a thunderbolt hub, except that I could maybe use the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (expensive as it is, it may be a cheaper option than others).  I have read mixed reviews of this device, but it looks like it could essentially work - one thunderbolt cable to connect the Macbook to the dock, then use the Firewire 800 port on the dock with an 800-400 adapter for the mixer and the second thunderbolt port on the dock for the projector with the VGA adapter.  I am wondering if there are any other possible solutions though, other than buying a Macbook Pro!
    Thanks,
    Nick

Sounds like a good suggestion but it is from 2009 and out of stock at Amazon.
This URL lists a newer one and says it is Mac compatible.  I also do not have any experience with this product.

General advice:  Keep all the packaging material in case you need to to return it in the 30 day Amazon return period (assuming it qualifies for a return).  Purchase it on a credit card with consumer protection that entitles you to a refund if the seller will not accept the return.

  • Color inversion from iMac to TV

    Hey,
My iMac desktop is extended to a Sony EX402 40" TV screen with this:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-di...er-1080p-34025
The problem is when im watching content on the TV it will go black after a couple of min and im getting color inversion. Its also a familiar problem for the Apple TV (scroll down for screenshots):
    http://www.macstories.net/news/apple...d-philips-tvs/
Anyone knows a solution for this? I tried several HDMI ports on my TV but no luck. I could try to plug a different HDMI cable in or maybe the adapter is faulty
Im getting this on my SONY tv:
    Anyone familiar with this?

Did you check Sony's support pages to see if there's a firmware update available for your TV? For example this which gives you version M8.717. (That link is to Sony UK. You better find the relevant page for your region.)
If that doesn't solve it then I'd suspect the HDMI converter.
My iMac is an older model, the late 2009 21.5" model. But I have it connected to a Sony V530 with no problems using a Kanex mini DisplayPort to HDMI converter (this one). Initially I had problems with the sound. I only got mono sound, but it turned out to be a problem with the HDMI socket on the TV. After I moved the cable to another socket, I got stereo sound.

The issue is sporadic.  I cannot find a consistent pattern.  I was able to create a title, and then it seemed that after creating a second title (new sequence, same project) the issue appeared while typing the text.  But it happened again while attempting to open a title (maybe it was already faulty, but it saved).  Sometimes you can blow right through the error, but I've also been getting some of this:
