I am confused on my upgrade

I am eligible for a upgrade on my phone, but my contract is not up till March. And from my understanding from talking to the online support and reading the website, unlimited data is no longer available, but i have unlimited now. Yet if i cancel my contract now, when i could upgrade now, i get charge a termination fee. Am I correct in this?

You get an upgrade 20 months into your 24 months contact that's why you are eligible now. You still ave to finish out all 24 months to not get charged a ETF. If you cancel now you have to pay an ETF. If you currently have smartphone that would be $150.
If you take a discounted upgrade and/or extend your contract you lose unlimited. If you want to keep unlimited you have to pay full price for the phone, which you can do at any time.

• Confusing behavior with upgraded RAM

Hi All,
I Upgraded the RAM of my MacMini (1.66Ghz Intel) about 3 months ago. I swapped out the 2x512MB for 2x1GB DDR2 667Mhz Corsair RAM. The RAM was recognized and I had not had any problems until this weekend. I don't reboot this machine much, but I had installed a printer driver and the installer wanted a restart. After restarting, OS X says it only sees 512MB in one of the two RAM slots (the first one), the other is listed as 'empty'.
This is really confusing because I would think it would either recognize 1GB or nothing, how could it only recognize half the memory of one of the DDR2 slots? Don't really want to open it up again, and I have already tried zapping the PRAM but no change.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Alex

Hi AndyO,
Thanks again. Ok, So I'm starting to think it's some kind of hardware problem. Here are the tests I did.
First I removed one of the two 512MB, and it booted and showed 512. Next I installed 1GB + the 512 that was present, it did not boot at all. Next I removed both and installed a single 1GB in the lower slot. It booted and showed 1GB of ram. Next I added the second 1GB and it would not boot. Finally I put the 1GB that caused it not to boot, in the lower slot alone and it booted and showed 1GB. This leads me to believe the ram is not the problem. It seems to be the paired RAM since, when I put a single chip in the upper slot it would also boot.
So, is this the most likely problem? either the slot itself or the board? Seems like it wouldnt want to boot if the board had a problem but thats just my guess. Any more ideas would be helpful. Right now I am running a Single 1GB chip untill I can figure out this issue.

• Confused about the upgrade

I was predicted a speed of 28/6 when i signed up to bt infinity which as i live a fair way from the exchange i was more than happy with. After installation we got an amazing 37meg which over time settled to a rock steady 29 which has been great.
I just received a notice saying i can "upgrade" my service to speeds of up to 80/20. Great i thought until i got to the signup page and it predicts i will have a download speed of 26 meg.
Now i imagine due to the distance i live from the exchange i wont get anywhere near 80. Thats fine. My question is would i likely see my speed drop as per the predictor? stay the same? or get a marginal improvement?
I notice it starts your contract again which doesnt worry me as im happy with the service i have and would have no problem renewing im just wondering if it is worth doing this and if it would have a positive (if only slightly) effect on my service, a negative one or no effect whatsoever?
Any advice?

Your fibre connection has not impact on how far you are from the exchange, only how far you are from you local FTTC cabinet. What are you estimates when you put in your telephone number into the checker? http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017&s_cid=con_FURL_...
If the speeds are still near what you getting, it may be likely you may see no increase.

Experts,
I am very much confused regarding the upgrading of SAP NW PI 7.1 EHP1. Following is the scenario:

Should i need to update my PI 7.1 EHP1 or it already has the updated software.
Can anyone help me in clearing this confusion.

• Annual upgrade, NE2, and more early upgrade confusion

I see a lot of confusion here regarding upgrade eligibility and credits. I've tried to research to get a clearer understanding but there are still some things that are hazy to me.
Regarding NE2 - I found this: "Annual Upgrade was a marketing program available to customers who signed up for a two-year plan of at least $49.99 or higher. Enrolled customers were eligible to upgrade after one-year."
Great, but when exactly did this "marketing program" end? Is it only available to the primary line if there are multiple lines on an account? Does the $49.99 refer to JUST the calling plan, or total (including data/messaging/etc)?
I've seen plenty of articles like this talking about Verizon giving early upgrades to those who would normally not be eligible. Trying to figure out what the criteria is, it seem like this early upgrade offer was extended to customers who purchased phones last year, up to late 2010. Aside from that though, I can't really tell what makes a one customer "eligible" and the next ineligible. I was wondering if anyone had information on this that could clarify the issue.
Also, I've noticed many smartphone owners, even those that purchased recent phones like the Thunderbolt on contract, say that they've been able to get early upgrades. I'm just curous as to what qualifies someone for an early upgrade and what Verizon looks at when deciding eligiblity, since with everyone's different experiences, it seems like there aren't many hard and fast rules. Thanks for any help

andrewtorres87 wrote:
Thanks for the replies guys, that gives me a much better idea of what's going on as far as early upgrades go. Like everyone else, I'd love to be able to upgrade a little early, but when I check upgrade date, it seems to be on the typical 20 month schedule. I was just wondering if I might have some sort of eligibilty though since I renewed my contract in 11/2010, well before the NE2 and annual upgrades were discontinued. I'm pretty sure I would meet the calling plan requirement since my plan includes voice/unlimited messaging/data, but I'm on a family plan and don't know that I'm the "primary" line. Although I'm 99% sure nobody else on our plan has been eligible for NE2/annual upgrade either...You can sign into MyVerizon to see which line on your account is the primary line. Or you can look at your bill. Normally, the primary line is listed 1st. If you signed a contract for your line in November of 2010 yet are not eligible for an upgrade, then you can be certain that your line is not the primary on your Family Plan.
It'd be nice if I could find someone to look at the acoount and offer some sort of explanation as to why/why not I'd be eligible for annual upgrade, but the only "help" I've gotten is reps telling me when my upgrade date is, which is already well known. Or telling me to open a new line if I really want to upgrade now, which just seems like a wasteful option, not really saving any money over the long term compared to just buying a device at full retail. Reps will NEVER give the annual upgrade date PRIOR to the line actually becoming eligible for the upgrade. This is because it is not a definite upgrade eligibility, but a conditional one. If your plan changes prior to your line reaching the annual upgrade eligibility, you could lose the ability to become eligible. Then you would just complain to Verizon that you were told you could upgrade at a certain date and are not able to do so.
For example, you have a Family Plan with 1 Primary(contract signed in 11/2010) and 3 secondary lines(contracts signed in 11/2010). The Primary line decides in July of this year to leave the plan to join up as a secondary on a different Family Plan. In this case, although the Primary WOULD have been eligible for an annual upgrade in 11/2011 had they stayed on the original Family Plan, it would no longer become eligible for the annual upgrade because it is now a secondary phone on a different plan and the $9.99 line access fee would not qualify for the annual upgrade. If this person was originally told that they would be eligible for an upgrade in November of 2011, they would then complain that they weren't able to upgrade now! Furthermore, the secondary line which was switched to the Primary line on the original Family Plan WOULD NOT be eligible for an annual upgrade in 11/2010 because it became the Primary line AFTER annual upgrades were discontinued in January of 2011.
I am (mostly) satisfied with the actual data/voice service I get from Verizon, but their customer service seems to be on the decline, I'm my experience at least. They seem to be more concerned with getting new contracts (customers) than providing services to long-time customers and doing what they can to keep them happy. Just an observation as a VZW customer of 12+ years. Not to say this isn't expected, as they're a huge company and didn't get where they are by NOT putting $ first, but as the carrier with the reputation of having the best customer service, I've found myself being less and less impressed over the years. Sorry to vent here, but hopefully honest feedback is something that could be at least a bit useful to Verizon.

• Can I install Windows 7 upgrade (from XP) to BootCamp?

I currently use Snow Leopard and have a Boot Camp partition running Windows XP Professional. It was a pain to install, because I had the upgrade version, and you can't eject CDs from the optical drive during the installation process to put the old CD in to prove you already own a copy of Windows. Let's just say I found a way around that and was able to install XP which currently works fine.
I am now considering trying out Windows 7. If I get it, it will be the upgrade version as well. Will it be possible to install that to Boot Camp from XP? I know there are issues upgrading from XP to Windows 7, in that it has to be a custom install. I don't care about losing Windows settings and files; in fact, I would much prefer to do a clean install. Does anyone know if that is possible using an upgrade CD or will I have the same problem of not being able to eject the CD to put an old one in during the installation process?

If you thought what I was saying was off-base, perhaps you still don't understand my question, since none of your answers has addressed it.
I don't want to do the "upgrade" process. I was very familiar, even before you posted several links saying the same thing over and over, that you can't do that from XP to Win 7 anyway, but even if you could you wouldn't want to. I get the difference of upgrade v. migrate, etc., etc. Please don't link to it again. That is not my question.
All I want to know is this: If you are using an upgrade CD to install Windows 7 (as opposed to a full install CD, and not to be confused with the "upgrade" process), will there be an issue with switching it out during installation and not being able to get it out of the optical drive?
When I clean-installed XP to Boot Camp using an upgrade XP CD, you couldn't do that, because it needed proof of a prior copy of Windows during the installation process and there was no way to switch out the discs. This was a weird glitch of needing to eject from the optical drive during the installation process but having no way to do so at that particular point in the installation. It had nothing to do with anything about Windows licenses, upgrade pathways, etc. It was a technical oddity because of the hardware.
From Apple support site re. XP and Vista with Boot Camp:
"Important: _You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc._ Service pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations. Do not install an earlier version of Windows XP and attempt to update it later to service pack 2. Use only 32-bit versions of Windows."
You don't need to answer this. BlueDevilKurz somehow understood exactly what I was asking and responded several posts ago as well as anyone can until Windows 7 is actually released and we know for sure. But if you want to, it's a Yes or No question, with a second bonus Yes or No question.
1. Can I use an upgrade Windows 7 CD/DVD (rather than full install media) to install Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition that currently has XP?
2. Can I use an upgrade Windows 7 CD/DVD (rather than full install media) to install Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition that is currently empty (no XP installed)?

• Logical Component after upgrade

Hi,
I have slight confusion.
We upgraded our SCM system from SCM 7.0 to SCM 7.01 (Ehp1). now our product version is "EHP1 FOR SAP SCM 7.0"
and Product instance is "SAP SCM ENHANCE PACKAGE"
in logical component which is used in Charm and monitoring.
following are the current details
logical componenet: Z_SCM
Product/Prod. Instance SAP SCM [SCM Server]
product version: SAP SCM 7.0
Now i want the correct assignment of logical component which includes product version and product instance.
How do I get same logical component name with new product instance, so that my charm and monitoring is not affected.
Its same case for PI. from SAP netweaver PI(7.11) to SAP Netweaver (7.3)
BR,
Shyam

Hello Shyam,
Sorry, you are correct, the logical template needs to be copied from a system group and SAP SCM 7.0 and SAP SCM 7.0 EHP
are in different system groups, and you won't be able to pick up your SCM 7.0 systems in the SCM 7.0 EHP logical.
What might be possible, and I don't know if it would be practical is to retire Logical Z_SCM that was based on SCM 7.0, and by retire I mean remove, and then create the same nameed Logical Z_SCM but copied from the template of SCM 7.0 EHP, then you could see your SCM 7.0 EHP systems and pull them into the new logical Z_SCM and add that back to the solution.
I have not tried this, but if you have a test environment you could try this to see. Logically it should work. Its certainly something you could prove or disprove on a test system.
Regards,
Paul

• Sound effects not working after upgrade

After upgrading to Yosemite, my system sound effects are no longer working. Instead of hearing my selected Basso sound, my entire screen flashes. Other sounds, such as the audio track of a video, still work fine. If I use the "afplay" command I can hear a system sound. I also get sounds for incoming and outgoing mail. But clicking one of the system alert sounds in the "Sounds" preference pane does nothing audible, and in other places where I used to get a Basso sound, my screen flashes instead. I'm aware of the Accessibility option that gives the screen flash in lieu of an audible alert, but that is turned off, and I have tried turning it on and back off again, to no avail. My "Alert volume" is all the way up in the "Sounds" preference pane, and I've slid that back and forth too.
Can anyone suggest a way to reset whatever got confused in the upgrade, and get my alert sounds back?
I'm on a 13" mid-2009 MacBook Pro, if that matters.
Thanks!

I had same exact problem - Reset PRAM and not works fine. I followed instructions here, and step 5 fixed it: http://www.iphonetopics.com/no-sound-after-upgrading-to-os-x-yosemite/

• Upgrading Exchange 2013 to SP1

I have 3 Exchange 2013 servers in my environment. Each server is a CAS and Mailbox server. Each server is also setup in a DAG. I want to update them to SP1 and am a little confused on the upgrade process. Can I just install SP1 on one server at a time
or do I need to make special considerations on which server gets upgraded first? What about the DAG? Thanks.

Hi Will,
Before you install the SP1 you should consider:
Make sure that you have a valid and tested backup of you Exchange Server, Mailbox Database(s) and Active Directory
Make sure that all third-party vendors that you use on your environment support the Service Pack 1
Make sure that there are no backup jobs running the upgrade process
Stop all backup services; and third-party services, such as System Center Operations Manager and so forth
Make sure that you don’t have any pending restart due Windows Updates and/or previous roles/features installed on the server
If you have a DAG then it is important to put the server in maintenance mode
For further info in performing maintenance on DAG Members
here
After all considerations you should update to SP1 after you download it you can run the update from command line o run the setup.
Hope it helps.

• Upgrade 2009 27" iMac's Graphics Card?

Hello All
I have read many confusing posts about upgrading graphics cards in iMacs but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer yet as to whether i can do this.
I have a Late 2009 27-inch iMac (model iMac10,1) with ATI Radeon HD 4670 256mb graphics.
I just need to know if it is possible before I buy a card and begin the tedious process of taking the computer apart, and which cards will work and are available for purchase.
Any help would be appreciated,
xeni

The processor is integral with and soldered to the logic board. It cannot be changed. You would ahve to get aq new logic boarda nd that is a significant portion of the cost of new uprated iMac with the specs you want.
The word is that Apple will only replace a defective GPU card with the same type and capacity, so I doubt they will help. Also the iMac does not use the common GPU cards as used in tower computers. It is a proprietary format with a crazy heat sink system:

The "card" is under the heat sink plate (lower right)

• I am confused (Micro)

I currently have a Zen Micro, but am confused after just upgrading to Windows XP. Which is better for me: . vs 2. ? I am not using a music subscription service, just tranfering music from data cd's and music cd's. The rest of the time I am just editing track information. Is . ok for this? I have 2. now but am having problems with it.
Should the Micro be recognized as another hard dri've? (G: for example). Currently, I only can access it through My Computer but it is under the 'Other' category. So my computer says the Micro is not a hard dri've, or removeable one. Also, MediaSource is giving me problems because it won't let me change multiple track information. On my previous computer (windows 98), I was able to do this (with .). Now I am having trouble.
What should I do, and could changing the firmware fix this? Thank you.

. If you're not using subscription based services for getting music, I'd suggest ..0.
2. The Micro isn't recognised as a hard dri've unless you set it to removable disk mode. You wont be able to transfer music onto the player and make it playable, this is only for usb mass storage.

• Upgrading from version 4.5 HD

I have FCP 4.5 HD. As most of you know, 4.5 is dropping frames with the new OS 10.4.9. I wasnt sure, but is there a way to update 4.5 to 5 without having to buy FCP 5 in full? Is there just an upgrade I can purchase? Any advice would be greatful. I dont really want to Archive and re-install the OS.

Since Apple's special crossgrade offer has expired, there's been much confusion about the upgrade process for FCP 4 through 5 users. But one thing is certain, upgrading from 4.5 is and will continue to be a paid upgrade - not somethig you can download online free.
I'd recommend waiting until NAB to see what Apple announces in regard to FCP 6. In the meantime you're best bet maybe to reinstall your previous OS.
