I Tried for three days to download iOS 6 and kept getting error 1403. I finally went to the apple store and they couldn't figure it out either.
I finally got it to download and all I did different from the other 100 times was I went into settings and on the Bluetooth setting I put NO. Not sure if that's what did it but that was the only thing different that I did.

I can not get the phone to update the OS? I tried different wifi points, and still no luck. I tried this at least 6 times with the same result. It looks to download, and then says it is 'preparing' for a while, and then it pukes out the message "Software Update Failed An error occurred downloading iOS 8.1.3". Anyone know how to resolve this? B. via iTunes...won't even proceed... saying my connection Timed out

Note:
- My connection was working perfectly well during those numerous attempts (probably more than 50 times).

I've been trying for 2 weeks to update my iPhone 4S (7.0.6) to iOS 7.1 OTA but it fails all the time...telling me software update failed An error occurred downloading iOS 7.1. ..I need some support pls!!

The problem occurres after the downloading is complete and when its in "Preparing Update" procedure and specfically in its last progress (near the end). Suddenly a message pop ups saying that "Software Update Failed" \n "An error occured downloading iOS 7.1."
I've restarted the update process for the 20 th time!!! and reset my iphone twice to factory settings, but still nothing change, same error occures...

Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes (v11) Installed on your computer

Then Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore

I have issues installing the new OS since it was launch 3/7... Tried both on my iPhone4s and iPad2 directly on the device via OTA, but received the error message multiple times. No luck and tried to install directly on my iTunes with the new version 10.6 using my MacBook Pro.
But today, I tried not to use my router (wifi) and just connected the LAN directly to my MBP over iTunes first with my iPhone and it works... Downloaded ios5.1 at 800MB though and installed it to my iPad2 successfully.
I guess the issue is not with Apple but with some IP issues over my ISP or something to do with my router. Hope this will help.
Again, download and install iOS5.1 over iTunes without the wifi connection.

As Sneaky_Mouse suggested the best option is atm iTunes. Servers are probably going crayze.
If you cannot do it like that as well you can look for an iOS 7 ipsw (image file) and then, hold down either Option or Shift (on a Mac or Windows PC) and click Update; this will allow you to select the ipsw image.

If you did the update through iTunes, try going into the Settings App on your iPhone and doing the Software Update in there. The same thing happened to me, and the wireless update worked.
