It's not the overlays they are "on" so can anyone advise me please, by the way the "L" doesn't appear in the bottom left hand corner either? and by the way how can I get rid of that irritating Blue badge saying "AutoFill your contact details" all mine are in "address book" already!
You can't drag a transition into the canvas. If you're dragginmg a transition from the effects tab you drag it between the edit point of two clips in the timeline.
Make sure show edit overlays is turned on in the Canvas view popup.

Thank youAssuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product. You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store. -
I have been creating a film on Final Cut Express and half of my film has disappeared! What can I do to retrieve it?! Furthermore, command Z doesn't appear to be working! Any help would be much appreciated!
Check the capture/scratch disc to make sure the media is still there. If it isn't your hard drive may be going bad. If it is, then you may have inadvertently cut part of the video from the Timeline or deleted it from the Browser.
As for the Command z issue, see how many levels of undo you have set in FCE preferences. Also keep in mind that Command z will not work if you close the project and reopen it.

I'm thinking about buying FCE 4 HD and I wanted to know if it could handle a couple of things before I do.
I wanted to do something similar to the closing credits in the movie An Inconvenient truth. Could I do this in FCE or with Livetype 2.

2) For the Crowd or the Cross effects, there are two things going on at once: effects on the text, and effects on the video. My gut feeling is that both FCE and LiveType can do these, with lots of work and patience, but I'll defer to other people to answer.
3) The page peel is a transition built into FCE. -
I've held back on updating to ios7 on my iPad because when I I updated my phone I lost everything and had to go to an apple store. Will this happen to iPad? Can anyone advise me please?
There shouldn't be any problem but, if you are worried, do a backup before the update.

Iam trying to import a short video in final cut express and I'm getting this error... File Error: 1 file(s) recognized. 0 access denied, 1 unknown. How do I solve this problem? The video is on my desktop and it's an mpg file. Please help me
Get a copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert your MPG file to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). In FCE, select one of the setups that uses AIC that best matches your clip (say, 1920x1080i60). Create a new sequence, then import the converted file.
Note that if your MPG file is actually MPEG2 you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component in addition to MPEG Streamclip.
What was the source of the MPG file? How about if you open it in QuickTime, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector. Tell us what it says for codec/compression, frame size & frame rate. -
Size of Final Cut Express and LiveType?
I want to get Final Cut Express soon. on info site it says this for the hard drive requirements:
"500MB disk space required for applications; additional 16GB of additional storage space for Soundtrack and LiveType content (can be installed on separate disks)"
1. I don't need soundtrack, I have better Programs than that, so just Final Cut Express and LiveType, I can install the extra content on my external drive but I need the program and main effects on my Macbook so how much would all this take up on my macbook.
2. I tried copying my school's livetype from the computer but it just did the program with no effects or anything, does me no good. so I'm just gonna buy my own copy. but where it says 500mb for apps is that what its talking about just basically an empty shell no effects or templates or anything, just a useless program.Just a bit of friendly advice ... the folks who contribute to this forum are good people who participate with a genuine interest in helping out, and they don't get paid to do it. People will respond when they have the information and the desire to provide it. Attitude counts for a lot in these forums, and patience is a virtue, if you understand my meaning.

Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????
My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
Please, please can someone tell me why? -
Moving project between Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro back and forth
We are buying new Macs to our studio. One will be main editing suite with Final Cut Studio 2.
Another Mac mini will have Final Cut Express.
I do understand that you cannot open your FCE project in FCS, but can you do it the other way around, using the Mac Mini as "offline suite"?OK, so far, soo good. But can I open a FCP project in FCE?
(Scenario: I start working in FCE, continue in FCP and return to FCE).
I understand if some effects, etc won't show up in FCE. -
Compatibility issues with Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro
I'm getting ready to edit a project and I was wondering if there are any compatibility issues with Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro. I've never used Express put I assume I would be able to make cuts, simple effects and titles. Is this correct.
If I transfer project files from one platform to the other will i run into any issues?

Although they operate in a similar fashion that are not fully compatible. You can open a FCE project in FCP, but once you've edited it in FCP you can't go back to FCE. -

So I gave it a "global port range" of 1-10 and I indicated that the "base host port" was 80, 1025, & 9000 (ports 1,2,3). When I selected the 'enable' it asked for a "host devise" my choices are my IPhone, IMac and the IP address for the dvr, so I choose the dvr. I still cannot connect and canyouseeme still can NOT find these open ports. This is taking up my whole day! I don't know how people figure this stuff out.
