I am trying to open pptx files on my MacBook Pro and continue to get "No Text Converter is installed for this application" even though I have dowloaded several converters that were supposed to work and I just downloaded Apache Open Office 3.4.1 with no luck. I am able to open docx files with the converters I have installed but not pptx files.
The PPTX file type is primarily associated with 'Power Point' by Microsoft Corporation.
This is the new format for Microsoft Office documents.
It is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction.
To open Office 2008 for Mac documents (format .xlsx, .docx, .pptx) in Office for Mac 2004, you must download and install the Open XML File Format Converter. This article describes how to obtain and install the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac.

I would trash - iMovie pref file - and re-try - sounds like this got faulty.
• Delete iMovie pref. file. iMovie pref. file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD) / Users / "Your account" / Library / Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie7.plist
com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
chflags nohidden ~/Library (exactly like this - space included)
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

Trying to copy ANY file from my MacBook Pro to an external hard drive spins for 45 minutes then fails. I hate this computer and WISH I never would have wasted my money. Any ideas? WD My Passport 2TB Drive, had to buy a program to make the POS read files. Copies that would take seconds from a Windows based machine never complete. I have to close the transfer or shut off the machine half the time. Worst computer I have EVER owned, crashes non-stop, constantly freezes, and seems like EVERY operation is more complicated with this thing. ShivIs this a clean install or an upgrade? 20 GB, though greater than the minimum, is pretty minimal. How much memory do you have on the system? 2008 would try to create a page file of 1.5x physical memory, so if you are building on a large
memory system, you could be having an issue there.

If the thief enabled activation lock on the device, then there is nothing that can be done. Only the password for the Apple ID that it is locked with can disable activation lock.

Emails sent to me are sometime returned to the sender with the message "Inbox full" even though I have maybe less than 100 emails in the Inbox and I regularly compact them. Firefox is a web browser. It provides access to online content. Things like your email are handled by the content provider. Who is your email provider? You'll have better luck consulting their documentation.
That being said, deleting only email is a great way to free up space. Another option would be to purchase a "Premium" account if your email provider offers this service. Many times more storage space is offered as part of paid subscription.

Did an IOS update last week and after the Ipad rebooted it said slide to unlock then asked for a passcode to be entered..... I have never set a passcode ever ??
What number do I enter to unlock the Ipad ... have tried the usual 0000 and 9999 etc but just locks me out .... HELP !!!
Or is there a way to go back to factory settings ?? (Without losing my Apple ID etc)
ThanksIf this was your first update to iOS 7 then you were asked to CREATE a passcode. Also there would have been a small Skip button to avoid creating the passcode. If, when you encountered that request you went ahead and entered a passcode number then you must use that number to unlock your device. Once the device is unlocked you can change or delete the passcode using the Settings app.
To completely remove the passcode lock you need to connect your iPad to the computer you normally sync with and restore the iPad. This will erase all data on the iPad so be sure your info, photos, etc. are backed up first. -

I opened the saved presentation on a new macbook pro and the images are all distorted. The jpegs are altered and look like they had photo filters applied to them. Some pictures look like infrared photos, color cast and such. I'm running lion on both laptops. the presentation runs fine with no hang ups and the spinning wheel of death.Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

How do I open .wim files on my macbook pro?
When my hard drive crashed for the second time on my HP computer, I knew it was time for a change. The HP help menue gave me the option to backup everything onto an external hard drive. I did this and now when I try to open the files inside, they are all "#.wim" files. The #s go from 0.wim-53.wim. How do I open these files? Some might be microsoft word or powerpoint files but I have not got Microsoft word for mac yet. I understand that this will probably prevent me from opening some of the files but wouldnt I be able to open the others? If you know anything about ".wim" files, please help me.

I am running Firefox 10.0.2 for Linux, and have never had this problem with previous versions. I wonder if it is an issue of Firefox not quitting completely when I close it...meaning it would not clear the history and cookies because it is not technically shut down. This is just a theory, however. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks for the suggestion. I made sure the prefs.js file had read and write permissions, and since then it seems to be saving my settings and deleting all the information I ordered it to on exit.

i recently downloaded two tracks from itunes and they will not play in my windows media center. i have never had this problem but the two tracks play on my PC just not in the windows media center and usually all my itunes music plays in there no problem??? any idea what to do? thanks

The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help. -

Quit - or force quit - iPhoto.
Then relaunch. When the "Mobile Me has ended" panel appears press the "Learn More" button, not the "o.k." button.
Then you should be able to open the Preferences in iPhoto and and open the "Accounts" panel. Remove "Mobile Me" from the iPhoto Accounts.
Then also open the System preferences > Mobile Me panel and sign out of Mobile Me.
If this does not work, try to disconnect from the Internet before you launch iPhoto again.
