I am trying to uninstall Reader XI.

By doing this some weeks ago, the plugin crashes I was experiencing vanished, and Skype and DNS started working again. Trying to uninstall via control panel and I get the message "Error opening the installation log file." It then asks me to verify that the location exist and is writable. I managed to write a file the other day and found it via Windows Explorer. Program file (x86) /adobe is there.
That was done after uninstalling the plugins, rebooting, downloading new plugins, and checking, and if necessary deleting in the Syswow64 file under Windows/Syswow64/macromed as well as invariably a copy was left there after the plugin uninstall.
How to uninstall XI?

tried all that and I am aware of the IE flash plugin in requirement for Skype after the Gates company took it over, but although have it, it DON’T work. Why did they “fix” that which weren’t broke?
Still have no Skype, and no possibility of using DNS, and that is likely to continue for many weeks, until someone pulls out their finger and stops sucking on the product!!!
PS, managed to uninstall Adobe, unfortunately, changed nothing.

I am trying to uninstall Reader X in hopes that when I reinstall it some other issues will clear up. However, when clicking remove or update in Control Panel, I get the same result. "This patch package could not be opened...." Same message I have seen in a host of other postings.

You could try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove all traces of any existing versions of Reader. This utility is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can conflict with Win 7, but you can still find it in sites like http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

I tried to open a file using reader 10. Now reader has taken over all my apps including explorer and live mail and nothing will open unless I uninstall reader. System is windows 7. How can I reverse this?

I was trying to open a file, the box came up saying that windows could not open the file and choose another program to open the file, I chose reader as it was the first option offered. Reader could not open the file either but when I closed the file I fount that nearly all the desktop icons had changed to reader icons and when I tried to open them a box comes up advising that reader cannot open that file. I downloaded muse cc 2014. It worked fine for a while (couple of bugs though). Yesterday it would crash whenever it was launched. So i tried to uninstall and re-install. No Luck. A msi file is short for microsoft installer. It normally is for installation, removal, and maintenance for a program. So iTunes.msi would be used for the updating of the program. For some reason it isnt finding this so we can't update, install, or remove it.
From what I have seen windows installer cleanup utility solved related problems before.
I found this forum about removing and installing a new iTunes. It was about someone who was trying to isntall iTunes, and was looking for msi file and asked for help. Using this should allow you to be able to install iTunes. It won't give you the msi file but will allow you to isntall iTunes over again.

Another option in case you can't get an msi. (Or even if you can ... the msi's mentioned in the messages may be damaged rather than missing.)
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I click on the Mozilla icon and it will not load. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but that doesn't work either

Right-click on your Windows Taskbar and select Start Task Manager. Look in Task Manager for processes running that are Firefox-related, such as Firefox.exe or plugin-container.exe. If you see either of those, right-click each of them and select "End process". Then try again to start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. 
*If Firefox will start in Safe Mode, select the option you are presented with to disable your add-ons and plug-ins and restart Firefox normally. You likely have a plug-in, add-on, or a combination of two or more that is causing the problem. Because Firefox allows users to customize endlessly, sometimes there can be conflicts between customized items. From the Firefox menu bar, go to Tools -> Add-ons then re-enable them one by one, restarting Firefox after each and testing after each one to see which one or combination of two or more is causing the problem. 
*If Firefox will not start in Safe Mode, make sure you again check Task Manager and end any running instances, then uninstall Firefox and download a fresh copy from mozilla.org/firefox using another browser temporarily. Re-install Firefox (see: [[Installing Firefox on Windows]] for more help ) and try running Firefox again.

Hope you have a backup.
Reinstalling OS X should not have any effect on applications or user data.
Erase and Install will wipe out the disk clean.
Safari and Mail should not be deleted.

Getting error message when trying to install Reader 9 on Win 7 64 bit w/IE 9

I hope I can be concise and not have this all sound too convoluted but I am so confused by this time that I may not be able to hide it. I have recently bought an HP Omni 220 PC, 64 bit, with Win 7, Intel Core i7, and IE9. Reader didn't come installed and I have been battling for weeks now trying to get it set up.
I couldn't get Reader 10 to install so I installed Reader 9 thinking to update to 10. While I can open and read PDF files beautifully on my desktop, Reader 9 allowed me to open .PDF files online only about 2 times and then stopped. When I tried to open a PDF link my IE 9 would crash and recover and tell me some problem had caused IE to have to close and recover. I tried 'repairing' the installation through the "Repair" option on the drop down menu which you get when you right click on the .msi installer. When the repair is running I get an error which reads:
"Warning 1909.Could not create shortcut Adobe Reader 9.lnk. Verify that the destination folder exists and that you can access it."
I have no idea what destination folder this refers to or how to fix it.
I uninstalled Reader 9, attempted again to install Reader 10. I think I've figured out that the 10 installer (which disappears and nothing happens when I try to run it) is actually a program different from the actual installation program but I fear I'd just run into this same destination folder boo-boo with the 10 installation as I have the 9 installation. At least the 9 will run without disappearing.
In short, finally, how can I fix this Warning 1909 to get Reader 9 installed so that I can actually read PDF files in IE9 and hope to update to 10?

Ok, I have now gotten Reader 10 installed, can open files from my desktop but IE 9 keeps crashing when I try to open PDF files even though I exited and relaunched IE 9. I did take ownership of all the folders containing Reader 10 and then clicked OK when I got the error notice about the shortcut being installed. I did make a copy of the crash error report and it reads as follows:
