i bought an ipod touch it worked for a while then it went in to dfu mode and said to plug in to itunes and i did but that didnt do anything and it wouldnt show up on itunes ethier plz help

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think.  I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point.  Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before  I take it back the better I think.

  • Photostream works for a while, then stops and won't upload to iCloud anymore.  Rebooting the phone resolves the issue.  Anyone know why?

I have an iPhone 4S.  Photo stream works for a while but then it will just stop and not upload any photos to iCloud.  Rebooting the phone resolves the problem.  This happens very often and is frustrating for something that should just work.  Once they get uploaded, they are downloaded to other devices without a problem.
Any idea what could be going wrong with it?  I hate taking pictures of stuff that I need on my other devices not knowing if they're going to make it there or not.
    Thanks!

    Hey Allistah,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like Photo Stream works but stops and a restart fixes it. A frustrating situation for sure. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Ipod Touch Stopped Working For No Reason!!

    Hi, First time post.
Basically, until about a week ago my ipod was working perfectly.
It ran out of battery so charged up over night as usual.
When i tried to turn it on the next day nothing happened at all. I tried to plug it into charge in the wall and on my computer but nothing happened!
My computer does not even recognise i have connected my ipod now.
I have tried using a new cable with no success. I have also tried all the reset combinations with no success either.
When i plug my ipod in to either the wall or the computer it heats up quite a bit but nothing happens.
    Please Help!!
    Thanks

    Hi Bairn2009,
Try resetting the iPod touch by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple logo as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743
If the iPod starts up like normal and is still not recognized by iTunes, try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852
If the iPod does not restart normally, it may need hardware repair.
This article: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/service/faq/#repair2 provides more information about repair options.

  • My ipod is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes tells me that it can't connect to my ipod because it needs the passcode, but my ipod will not let me type it in..... i've restored it, but that didnt do anything. ? what can i do????

    PLEASE HELP.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

but i am curious as to why my iPod is not turning on now, i've held the on button down for a while which
didnt do anything so i held the on button and the middle button... this didnt do anything either... i left my
iPod for a whole day to charge the other week and the next day it came on but kept turning itself off...
since then as i said its been in the docks but its never turned itself back on as it would usually do if it went dead
please help?! i need my iPod back before school otherwise i will die!
thanks, i'll be greatful if you reply.
    Kirsty x

After coneecting to a charging source for half an hour:
    - connect it to your computer.  If it shows in iTunes, restore the iPod via iTunes
    - If it does not show, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow you to restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My MacBook won't go passed a grey screen and the apple logo . It has a loading bar but doesn't do anything and just shuts down after the loading bar is complete... HELP!

Please please help!  I'm a college student taking finals. Need it fixed asap

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 3
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 4
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 5
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 6.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 7
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 8
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 9
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 10
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 11
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Safari will work for a while, then slows to "Spinning Ball of Death" & typing jumps, erases & may not space

I have a 10.5.8 Macbook, Leopard & almost exclusively use Safari. Got it in November of 2008. (Trackpad Clicker has not worked for ages. I have to use a mouse.)
Also, just recently, when using the keyboard to type, I may lose most if not all that I just typed, sometimes it doesn't space or move down more than to next line & often when I hit a symbol key, the cursor may end up anywhere.
For ages it has been doing what is stated in Subject/Question.
I can use it for a while, frequently clear Safari Cache. (Can't seem to clear Home->Library->Cache anymore. Much in there, but I fear that with the problems that I have had with this Mac since the first year that I will remove something that is necessary & really shouldn't be in that Cache. I did do it a few times way back, but it won't even let me move things to trash anymore.
I know that I need a new Macbook, but I can't afford one & really need larger than a 13" screen, as I have 3 different eye problems. My friend got a deal on a  "bells & whistles" Toshiba 17" laptop during "Black Friday" for something over $400. Something comparable in a Macbook would be ~$2,800-2,900 plus tax!!! Ridiculous. I got a Mac to not have to deal with viruses & the like & to have  one like my musician friend who needed direction with a computer & wanted a Macbook because of the "Garage Band". I bought mine ~3months after he bought his & wouldn't you know, mine is a Leopard & his a Tiger AND they had upgraded "Garage Band" on mine... so, nothing in common.
I have had nothing but trouble with my macbook since 1 year after I got it. As I was trashing what should have been "unsaved" & "saved" downloads, I happened to have my iPhoto open & near the end, I walked by to see all of my photos & documents disappearing to trash. Nothing has been the same since. The "Genius" was rude & no one could tell me what went wrong or fix my problem. I had over 8,000 items that were no longer in folders or albums or anything. All that was done was to move them from my trash to desktop to ONE folder for which I was left to deal. (Possibly go back to that time in my Time Machine??? But don't really know how to "pick out" all that was good, leave out the "mess" & still have all the new that I have done in the past 2.5 years??)
I had paid for 1 year of classes AND for the 3 year coverage & APPLE CARE. I was on the phone with those guys for hours & hours & months on end to NO avail. I am not a "happy camper". I think that they owe me a new one, even after all this time. My intent was to write them a very long detailed letter, but lightening has struck my house & fried all my components EXCEPT this "P.O.S", which would have been paid for by the Insurance company... Argh. And then my freezer went out & the new one was "DOA" & I have been fighting them & my dog has been lame for a year now, & I am a non-practicing vet, because of debilitating Depression. It has been over 10 months & my roof & chimney are still not repaired. I know... "TMI", but I guess I am venting to let you know why I haven't addressed Apple about my "P.O.S" macbook.
Any help wrt new WARNING message,(previous question), Safari winding down every time after some use, why my keyboard is going nutso & what to do about all the 1000's of files that are in my Macbook, (I thought that we moved most of them to an external HD, My Book. I have one for the Time Machine back up & one for "Storage". But, alas, it seems that most are still in my macbook & there is very little memory & that may well be a big part of my problem.)
Thanks for bearing with this "newbie on here".
I realize now, that this probably should have been at least 3 questions or more, sorry. If I have to redo, I will.
Just wrote a separate one regarding the "WARNING-SUSPECTED PHISHING SITE, every time I click on a new website on Safari.
Thanks to any & all. (Forgive me, if I don't know all the ettiquette & rules of this site. (Be kind & guide me.)

  • Since the Nov update about a third of my songs have a circle with an exclamation mark inside it. These song will not play on my computer. I reload with my own cd collection, it works for a while then the same thing happens. Message says "Song could not be

Since Nov update about a third of my songs have a circle with an exclamation mark inside the circle. These songs will not play on my computer. Message says  "The song .... could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  I have reloaded these back onto itunes with my own CD collection. They work for a short while, then the same thing happens. I don't  know what is causing this or how to fix it.

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • HT4913 Trying to add new macbook air to itunes match. process starts but never succeeds. works for a while then give error  about itunes server.

Trying to add my new Macbook Air to iTunes match. Process starts but goes nowhere. After some time I get error about iTunes server losing connection. Help! I want to access all my music.

Hi Rob- I'm guessing it has something to do with all the update stuff Apple keeps doing (with Yosemite, etc.,) extremely frustrating - also whenever I load up iTunes on any of my devices- I am asked to enter my passcode- which I will do- then I am asked to do it 2 or 3 more times - right after the other- crazy how annoying something like that can be- I have looked online for solutions- i.e. close out of the account, reset the passcode- all of it- nothing seems to fix that situation either-  what I have discovered (playing around) is on my iPhone 6+ if I go to settings and turn OFF iTunes match- then turn it back ON- suddenly all the music that wasn't loaded shows up magically- but I had to do that each time I'd update songs in my playlist on the iMac- then go to the iPhone and turn off the match- then turn it back on- almost like it is resetting things-

  • Can't generate Waveform in video - worked for a while then Stopped!

Importing mpg video had been working fine.  I imported several, cleaned up the sound, then saved in flv format - no problems.  Then suddenly it stopped.  I still get the video, but no waveform - no audio.
Called tech support, wasted 2 hours with someone who didn't know anything other than reinstalling the software.  Reinstalled, updated, still no good.
I vaguely remember that when I initially installed the 30-day trial version of CS4, the mpg audio (from Handycam) didn't work.  Then when I purchased, I downloaded an update from Adobe that added support for other codecs.  That's when it started working.
Any ideas on what updates/codecs that would be?
And now the media encoder drops the audio too, from the mpg's when converted to flv.  that's why i'm thinking it's a simple codec issue but I'm not getting anywhere.

    Hi greer,
Right around that time this morning we had a problem with some of our browser servers that may have caused the issues you saw. Can you give us some details about what time you were testing, what url(s) you were testing, and which browsers you were testing?
Did you see any of your screenshots succeed, or were they all failing?
Regardless, we restored the servers fairly quickly and got everything working, is everything working ok for you now?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Remote works for a while, then fails to connect

I upgraded my first-gen iPhone to software v2.0, and installed the Remote app. It connects to iTunes on my Mac and it works fine, for a while.
Then an hour or so later, when I launch the Remote app again, it gives me the "Could not find library" error.
The only way to fix this is to close & restart iTunes on my Mac.
Rebooting the iPhone doesn't help. I've got the firewall disabled on my Mac. And the Mac is set to never go to sleep.
The computer is a Mac mini running OS X 10.4.11, with the latest version of iTunes (currently 7.7.1).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Anthony DiSante

...aaaaand I've now upgraded from 10.5.1 to 10.5.4; that also didn't fix the problem.
I've discovered that disabling & re-enabling the computer's network connection does fix the problem. So as a workaround, I've created 2 new "Locations" in my Mac's network preferences, one called "Online" and the other "Offline", in the latter of which I've just disabled all the network adapters. I then created the following script (which I named togglenet.sh):
    #!/bin/sh
    scselect Offline
    sleep 5
    scselect Online
So I can execute that by SSHing from my iPhone to my Mac. Or I might install Apache on my Mac so I can make a CGI script out of it, so I'd just need to hit the page using Safari to run it.
So, at least there is a workaround; but I REALLY hope Apple just fixes this friggin' bug.

I re-installed the printer and didn't share it and it has now worked flawlessly for over a week.
