Ok make sure you have iTunes 11. Then connect iPod touch to computer then iTunes should pop up automatically. After it opens on the bottom left there should be a tab where it says your name and then iPod. For example (Johns iPod) click on that then it brings all your information of the iPod including restore and updating.
    Dont worry

I recently bought an Ipod touch 2nd gen, (Ebay). It's in great shape and seemed to be wiped clean.
When I connect (via windows computer) to Itunes with usb cord the Ipod icon shows, but the only function you can do is eject. When its in the upper right hand corner and you click on it all you get is a done button, when it's in the side bar right click and your only option is eject, left click has no effect. If I go to "file">devices it's as if there are no devices connected.
I purchased a song with Itunes on the Ipod itself, and it transferred to my library on the computer automatically .
I have an Iphone 5 and a nano that are still functioning with Itunes thru computer so I'm thinking the issue is with the Ipod touch. I've reset it several times, rebooted it, with no change.
nothing on the internet has helped, I called tech support and got disconnected. Should I take it to a retail store? I just don't know where to go next, I'm of course willing to pay for tech or repair. looking for suggestions.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I was downloading updates for ipod touch 2nd gen and twice when I was to processing files stage it clicked off. There was no message on whether it was done or what I was to do next. I needed to reset the ipod. Now what do I do?

I was downloading updates for Ipod touch 2nd gen and when the process was to the processing files point the screen changed and I wasn't given any idea as to whether the process was complete or not and if it was what was to be done next. I needed to reset the Ipod and now I am wondering what to do . Spend another Hour downloading and whatever amount on processing files and end up where I am now . Whats the next step in finding out what to do? This was the second attempt to do this with the first try happening the same except I am not sure how long the processing files part was.. Any suggestions as to what to try will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Likely a batter problem since high temperatures destroy a battery.  I wold make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to see what they say.  It is free except for your time.

  • After updating my ipod touch 2nd gen, almost all my apps won't sync

My daughters each have an iPod touch 2nd generation, and after they both updated their iPod touches, they could no longer sync or install most of theie apps they'v ehad for years.  What do we do now since they can no longer place apps on their ipod touches?

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • Can't Connect To Certain Sites iPod Touch 2nd Gen

    Hello.
I have an iPod Touch 2nd Generation, and I use an Arris modem to connect to the Internet. I do not have a router.
I've recently moved to a new location. I had to switch to a different ISP and modem. The internet has been working completely fine on all of my devices connected to the modem wirelessly except for my iPod Touch.
The best way I can describe the problem is: I cannot connect to certain sites. Due to Apple's complete abandonment of the older iPod Touch generations, I don't use it for anything but Facebook for when I am home and don't want to be sitting at the computer. That being said, there are only 3 sites I can report not working. Google, YouTube and Facebook all don't work for me. However, I have on rare occasion actually been able to connect to Google even though I haven't changed any settings. I can confirm that Reddit and Yahoo do work. I haven't tried other sites. The message I get when I try to connect to these sites is, "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."
The steps I have taken so far (that I can remember) in hopes of fixing this problem are listed below:
Restored my iPod via iTunes to factory settings.
Restored my iPod to previously backed up data.
Reset network settings in iPod settings.
Disconnected and reconnected to modem wireless signal.
Turned off iPod and held down Home and Power button for 10 seconds or so.
Downloaded Facebook Messenger app to attempt to log in that way (did not work).
    Reset modem.
    Probably some other things too.
I would appreciate any help you fine folks over here could provide as I have no other options to turn to.
    Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately, I have no other available networks to test it on. I can say that it was working before I moved. I can connect to the sites completely fine on all other devices connected to the same network. Unless there is some setting on the modem that specifically stops only my iPod Touch I figured it was something on the iPod causing the problem.

  • Smart playlists not live updating on ipod touch (2nd gen)

    Scenario:
I have a smartplaylist with live updating ticked in itunes. this playlists looks for tracks with a star rating between 4 and 5 stars and places them in the playlist. in itunes when i listen to new music with no rating and i give it a rating that meets this rule it works and places that said track in the playlist.
I then sync my ipod and the updated playlist with the new tracks that i have just rated goes on there. all good so far.
But when i rate a track on my ipod when i am away from my computer and i give it 4 or 5 stars it does not "live update" and place it on the said playlist. I have to wait untill i get home and synce with my itunes library for the newly rated tracks to go on my desired playlist.
isnt that the point of "live updating" playlists?
I should be able to rate a track and for it to go onto this playlist whilst i am "on the go"
This way of working always worked on my other ipods. just not with my touch.
any help or advice? is this a known software bug to do with the touch?
Thanks for reading, Comments and suggestions welcome.

Yes, I've had this problem several times. There seem to be certain criteria you can't use in a playlist and expect it to work on you iPod. I don't know if this will solve your problem but here's what I've figured out:
I have a 5G ipod classic. Any playlists that I've created using the criteria 'podcast is true/false' won't live update on the iPod. I've solved this by changing the criteria to 'genre contains podcast' and that works just fine.
The playlists that I've created using the 'playlist is' AND selecting one of (oh how to put this) iTunes library playlists that appear at the top of itunes (in my case "Music" and "TV Shows") (the ones with the icons), also do not live update on the ipod. For whatever reason, these default playlists seem to break live updating on the iPod, but not in iTunes. I got around it by using a whole list of genres to include/exclude to create my music playlist (there's probably a better way to do it). For my playlists that contain TV shows, I set all the TV shows I've ripped from my DVD's to have a genre of 'music and television' and use that to create a playlist. That also works.
You stated that you use the rating criteria to create your playlist, but might you also be using the default lists at the top too? of course, i'm not using an ipod touch so maybe this isn't helpful. I hope it is, because i know how crazy this was making me... good luck...

  • Apps won't update! iPod touch 2nd gen!

I have a almost brand new ipod touch and normally when i have wifi little red numbers will pop up about undates for pre-existing apps, & ill just click "update all" and it works. but now, I press "update all" and it starts to work and then a little msg says "Cannot connect to the iTunes store. I have wifi, and the account that i use is correct, but for some reason it wont update. so now i have a little, red, annoying "10".
    Please Help!

Are you sure your WiFi is working? Can you contact sites with Safari?
You can always update your apps using iTunes and it is probably a whole lot faster.

  • Can anyone help me restore my ipod touch 2nd gen?

Hi there. I am trying to update the software on my ipod touch but I keep getting an error code that states I can't restore it. Error code is 1-
    Any tips?

Hi. Error code 1- indicates that you are unable to update or restore your iPod. To solve this problem you need to put your device into recovery mode. Before you begin ensure that you have some charge in your device.
You should first disconnect your iPod from your computer and make sure it is turned off. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
When you next open itunes it will notify you that your device is in recovery mode and will ask you to restore it. It should all work after this.
If your still unsure take a look at this  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Hope this helps, Ben

  • I just  bought an ipod touch 5th gen but i cant download apps. The icon appears but then it goes away. What do I do?

    k

Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

  • Can't update ipod touch 2nd gen to iOS4

Hi, I have a old ipod touch 2nd gen. I just did a factory restore and it was restore to iOS 2.2.1. When i click Check for Update in iTune, it says 2.2.1 the current version. How do i get to update the ipod touch to iOS4 ?

Are you sure you don't actually have a 1G iPod Touch?  See this article to help you determine what generation it is.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353
If it's truly a 1G iPod Touch, you can only upgrade to iOS 3.1 using this link to purchase the update.

Otherwise, if you do have a 2G iPod Touch, make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes.

  • Update iPod touch 2nd gen to iOS 4.2

    Hi,
I'm having a problem updating my iPod touch 2nd gen to iOS 4.2. When I connect it to iTunes (version 9.2.1 as I'm still on OS 4.11) and click "Update" it returns an error message saying "This iTunes version is the latest version (9.2.1)" and no update will happen.
I'm willing to believe this is due to the fact that I'm using Tiger, but surely Apple would want even users of older versions of their software and hardware to update their stuff, wouldn't they? Anyway, I hope there is a workaround for this, as I'm very keen on starting to use Airplay.
Thx in advance for your help!

"So basically I need to buy a new computer (as I'm pretty sure my G5 cannot be upgraded to Snow Leopard) in order to update my iPod touch to the latest iOS version?"
No. Can your computer not handle Leopard?
"That seems a bit over the top, doesn't it?"
NO. Quite normal that newer products require newer software. Happens constantly across the entire industry.
" And essentially this means that Apple is withholding the benefits of iOS 4.2 from what I believe to be a substantial group of Tiger users. Doesn't seem fair, does it?"
Not even a little unfair at all. It is completely and totally normal, average, everyday.
You want the latest technology and features, you need the latest equipment and software. Nothing the slightest bit unusual about this.
