I cannot create a database
i installed a oracle database 11g and i notice that at the conclusion of the installation it shows me installation failed
but it gave me others option like try again abort and continue.
and i continue and final is how me completed and finish
but i reliaze that when i wanted to create a database it only gave me the option custom database and notice else
after i have conpletely created the database it was not actually created bcos i could not find it among the icans
what I meant to say EdStevens is that the version and the edition of the database installed uncorrectly brings such failures as I also faced such issues hence
"The problem is with the way you installed it, did u installed desktop or server version"
and Standard One is the version that whenever I installed it, it has worked for me because it requires minimum configuration steps, therefore,
"To resolve the issue install Desktop Version of 11g with Standard One Edition"
and ultimately when you have installed the database correctly then issue commands below to unlock any account you want to play with.
"when you are done with installation issue sqlplus /NOLOG
and c:\>conn / AS SYSDBA at Command line and then
alter user user_name ACCOUNT UNLOCK;"

Cannot create a database connection
Hi,
I am installing WebCenter Suite 11g. In the first time I install oracle 11g in a VM since the oracle 10.2.0.2 is running in my machine and it cannot be stopped.
The VM is in my machine.
In the DB of VM, I create a user named user2 for testing and connect it via SQL developer.
username: test2
password: test2
Host name: 192.168.222.222
Port: 1521
SID: orcl
It works.
Then, I install the RCU in my machine (not in VM). The rcu need me to key in the DB information.
Host name: 192.168.222.222
Prot: 1521
Service name: orcl
username: sys
passord:********
Role: SYSDBA
However, it shows error messages:
Unable to connect to the database useing the provided details.
Please enter a valid hostname and port or check if the listener is up and running
I also try to create a connection in oracle (10.2.0.2) Net manager (my machine, not the VM) and key the above information. However, it is failed.I check the IP address of VM and find the correct IP address is 192.168.1.30
I also key in this address in to network connection of the VM. Then, I close the firewall.
Then, in my machine, I can ping this addresss.
In the VM, I can create database connection using 192.168.222.222 as host name. If I use 192.168.1.30 as hostname, the connection cannot be connected.
But when I install the RCU, and key in the following information, it still shows error:
Unable to connect to the database using the provided details.
Please enter a valid hostname and port or check if the listener is up and running. But the oracle in VM is running.
Host name: 192.168.1.30
Port: 1521
Service name: orcl
username: sys
password: ********
Role: SYSDBA -

Trouble creating a database in MySQL using java
Hi all,
I am trying to create a program that connects to MySQL and can create databases, tables etc. I can connect to MySQL using the program but I cannot create a database (however if i create the database with the command line i can create tables in the database).
When I try to create a database i get the error
com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Unknown database 'persondatabase'Here is the code:
import java.sql.*;
class Connect {
public Connect() {
public Connection connectToMySQL(String database_name) {
Connection con = null;
try {
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///persondatabase", "", "");
catch(ClassNotFoundException e) { System.out.println(e); }
catch(InstantiationException e) { System.out.println(e); }
catch(SQLException e) { System.out.println(e); }
finally {
return con;
public void createDatabase(String database_name) {
Connection con = null;
Statement stmt = null;
try {
con = connectToMySQL(null); //connect to mysql but not to any one databases
con.setAutoCommit(false);
if(!con.isClosed())
System.out.println("Connected to MySQL. Creating the Database " + database_name);
String str = "CREATE DATABASE " + database_name;
stmt = con.createStatement();
stmt.executeUpdate(str);
con.commit();
catch (Exception e2) { }
finally {
try {
stmt.close();
con.close();
}catch (Exception e3) { }
public void createPersonDetailsTable(String database_name, String table_name) {
Connection con = null;
Statement stmt = null;
try {
con = connectToMySQL(database_name);
con.setAutoCommit(false);
if(!con.isClosed())
System.out.println("Connected to " + database_name + " creating the table " + table_name);
String str = "CREATE TABLE " + table_name + "(id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, first_name VARCHAR(25), last_name VARCHAR(25), address VARCHAR(40), suburb VARCHAR(20), state VARCHAR(3), post_code INT(1), contact_number INT(10), email_address VARCHAR(40));";
stmt = con.createStatement();
stmt.executeUpdate(str);
con.commit();
catch (Exception e2) { System.out.println(e2); }
finally {
try {
stmt.close();
con.close();
}catch (Exception e3) { }
}I am wondering if anyone can see where im going wrong? I am currently connecting with an anon account to MySQL.
Here is the program I am using to test the above:
class ConnectionTester {
public ConnectionTester() {
Connect s = new Connect();
s.createDatabase("PersonDatabase"); //this throws the error
//s.createPersonDetailsTable("PersonDatabase", "PersonDetails");
public static void main(String[] arg) {
ConnectionTester start = new ConnectionTester();
}you should rethink whether you need to create a database using java. personally i think it's a bad idea. your database should exist and the schema should be ready to go when your app starts. why do you think you need to create one?

Database Connection Error Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory
Hello everyone,
Background:
I have a newly installed and configured Ubuntu server running Tomcat5.5 and Mysql 5.0. This server was created in an attempt to migrate from a Red Hat server in a similar configuration, running the exact same webapp. Most of the configuration/classpath differences between the two platforms have been ironed out.
The Problem:
When our webapp trys to connect to the database on localhost, an exception 'java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission localhost resolve)' is generated.
The server.xml configuration is below:
<Resource name="jdbc/EconDollarsDB"
auth="Container"
type="javax.sql.DataSource"
username="user"
password="pass"
driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"
url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/DBName?autoReconnect=true"
maxActive="20" maxIdle="5"
/>I can connect to the database just fine using the command line client and the same username/password combo. This configuration has been working fine for at least a year on the older server. The only similar problems I have found on the net (meaning the same exception is generated) involve applets and attempts to connect to different hosts. This case involves a webapp, connecting to localhost, using a configuration that is known to work! I am simply baffled.
The following stacktrace is generated:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Database Connection Error

Its clearly saying the connect permission is missing with the current available policy.
you add the following permisson entry to the <installed JRE>\lib\security\java.policy file.
(e.g) C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_08\lib\security\java.policy
permission java.security.AllPermission;
grant{
permission java.security.AllPermission;
If the application is running standalone then the code is allowed uncontrolled access but for webapplicatons running through browser, the security check is performed for the configured JRE.

CREATE DATABASE cannot create a control file
I know, it's not supported. Please refrain from reminding me.
I am trying to install a second database on an Oracle 8i installation (8.1.7.4) on a Windows 2003 server. I cannot use DBCA because it doesn't work, so I create the databases manually using the script produced by DBCA.
So I run the following:
connect INTERNAL@TEST
startup nomount pfile="C:\oracle\admin\COHPTEST\pfile\initTEST.ora"
CREATE DATABASE TEST
LOGFILE 'D:\oracle\oradata\TEST\redo01.log' SIZE 1024K,
'D:\oracle\oradata\TEST\redo02.log' SIZE 1024K,
'D:\oracle\oradata\TEST\redo03.log' SIZE 1024K
MAXLOGFILES 32
MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
MAXLOGHISTORY 1
DATAFILE 'D:\oracle\oradata\TEST\system01.dbf' SIZE 264M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240K
MAXDATAFILES 254
MAXINSTANCES 1
CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1
NATIONAL CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1;
I receive the following error:
ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-00200: controlfile could not be created
ORA-00202: controlfile: 'D:\oracle\oradata\TEST\ctrl01.ctl'
ORA-27040: skgfrcre: create error, unable to create file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 3) The system cannot find the path specified.
More information:
1) Added the "Everyone" account to full control on the D: drive, to eliminate the possibility of access issues.
2) The control files, the alertLog, and just about every other file do not exist before, or after the error.
3) I cannot produce more detailed information other than what you see. I do not know of a trace that will track this, which would be helpful.
4) I've tried from both SQLPLUS and SVRMGRL, as well as using INTERNAL, SYS accounts as well as adding sysdba privileges.
I would love to upgrade this instance, but it has other databases on it, and only one box to run this DB on.
SO, just to be sure, telling me to upgrade isn't what I am hoping to learn. I would appreciate some insight on how to display the account svrmgrl runs under, or how to get it to run under another user ID that would be great, or why it can't create the file, or a manual way to create the file (CREATE CONTROLFILE is for existing db's only right? )Hello, my name is stupid.
I was using a remote file in my TNS_ADMIN environment value. It was pointing to the old database the whole time. The old database was up and down all day, but no one was on it to notice.
Answer: Please check your TNS_ADMIN file, to make sure that you do not have any naming conflicts with the database you are creating, and another database with the same name in your collection of databases.
What happened:
The reason it could not create the files: There was another TEST database, which was what was connected to, and I tried to create the files on another server which did not have a D: Drive.
When I switched to C: it stated the files were already in existence, which I knew wasn't true, and what led me to look at what I was connecting to.
When I checked my TNSNames.Ora file, I noticed the 2nd entry for a database also named "TEST" that a previous DBA had left in there, I realized I was working on the wrong database because it connected to the first database in the TNSNames listed for that SID.
I removed the entry from the TNSNames file, and the database was created successfully (Manually, DBCA still doesn't work).
Thanks for all that tried to help, but introspection was the only solution. -

Outlook 2013 Contact manager cannot create database
Hi,
I have installed my Office 2013 Home & Business on a Windows Server 2012 R2. My outlook 2013 is working. Thereafter I downloaded the 2013 Contact manager and tried to create a database.
An error message from Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2013 Database Tool says
'Cannot retrieve the list of SQL Server instances. Please make sure that SQL Server 2005 or greater is installed and that the service is running.'
I have also installed an older versions of SQL Server 2008 - I have the same error message. It seems that the BCM software cannot detect the older SQL server 2008 also.
Any pointers for me to resolve this?
I dont find any thread that deals with my problem. Since then, I have installed the SQL Server 2008 and it still does not read the application. The error is as below.Hi,
Please refer to this kb below:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/942496
Althought the kb is for Outlook 2007, it can still be a reference in your scenario:
This problem may occur if the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service is not running. The SQL Server service is required by Business Contact Manager. This problem occurs because the Windows Welcome screen may prevent the SQL Server service from starting when you first
restart the computer after you install Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager.
Please try if this helps:
Exit Outlook.
On Desktop, right-click This PC, and then click Manage.
Click Services and Applications.
Double-click Services.
In the services pane, click SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ).
Click Restart the service.
Exit Computer Management, and then start Outlook.
If the issue persists, what does the event log messages say? If there's not much private, please post the logs in the forum.

Melon Chen

Cannot create a data source to local database
I have a Windows 8 PC that I am using for testing purposes to create a desktop application. I have installed a copy of Visual Studio community and SQL Server 2014 Express.
I have created a database and I can use both SSMS and the Tools menu in VS to see and manipulate the database. However what I can't do is create a data source so that I can connect the database to my app.
I have tried a number of methods (including trying to create an ODBC connection) but each time I get an error message indicating that I do not have access rights.
Can someone please help me with connecting my app to my datbase please.Hi,
You can create a JDBC DataSource using the Visual Administrator GUI as given in the link http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/c0/3ad4d5cdc66447a188b582aad537d3/content.htm
In your J2EE Application you can obtain the connection using InitialContext lookup for 'jdbc/<Alias Name>'.
Also please select the correct SQL Engine option
