Try the following to rule out a software problem:

Place the iPOd in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

Using Mac OSX Install Disc 1, I am not able to get any further than the Partition tab. It allows me to select my hard drive selection, but will not allow me to make any other selections. Does anyone know their way around this obstacle? Thanks!

Hello, The Hatter, I read about the 'trick' of backing up, erasing, and restoring too, but I figured it would take longer than defragmenting the disk.
But the defragmentation process has just finished! so I'm gonna try to run Boot Camp again soon!

And P.S. I didn't clone my system onto the external drive, I just inserted the Mac OS X Install CD, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and installed a fresh Snow Leopard system onto the predetermined partition. I will use that in cases of emergency, when my main/internal system becomes unusable.

How long did you wait for the download to run? The last time I downloaded the Windows support files for Boot Camp, it was going very slowly, so I swapped away to another task. Several minutes later I came back and it had moved a little, but not much, so I went on with other things. When I got back to it several hours later, the download had completed. Perhaps you just need to let it go overnight to perform the downloads...

My iPad will not progress past the home screen, and my computer doesn't allow me to download my data from it. What do I do? I wanted to try to restore it, but I don't want to lose my "stuff".

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose your "stuff" with Recovery Mode.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up

But now stupid Windows Live Hotmail has made it impossible for me to "use" my email, such as doing Bcs or Attaching something, or even typing new text in the message box. Hotmail tells me I have to update my Firefox browser. But updating to Firefox 3.0 due my OS system limits does not now allow me to open onto the internet even after a successful download of 3.0. Does this happen immediately after you log in? If so, one of your login items is probably causing it.

I have recently purchased finale 2011, and it installs, but will not run? Any idea what the problem is?

I have recently purchased the finale 2011 music program, and it installs without any problems, but will not run when I try to start up the program. It acts like it is going to start, but stops when loading the plugins. I have been talking with Finale tech support for three days, and they are coming up empty, but they are still trying. ... And no I am not trying to connect both at once. To be sure I have switched the iPad off completely and switched the speaker off & on but still with the same failure to pair. The iPhone sees the speaker but then gives me the pairing unsuccessful message when asked to connect.
