I cannot maintain a consistent connection with Verizon DSL

I have had my DSL since May (when i purchased my mac) and cannot keep a consistent connection to the internet. Surfing the internet is not the problem (though I do get "your computer is not connected to the internet" messages frequently) The real problem is with downloads. Mainly, I can't download. I have had 3 apple updates that i have needed to download for the past month and i cannot keep the connection to my DSL to get them. I have phoned Verizon who says that i am connected, my modem is fine and so is my phone line. I have changed the ethernet cable. Apple support is always closed when i am home and actually in front of my computer. Has anyone else experienced this with Verizon DSL and conquered it?
Thanks.

I would suspect the modem. Has Verizon been out to check it? They should also check your phone line. You shouldn't be paying for service you don't get. I think you need to complain loudly, get a case number and work it out with them that you are not paying for service you're not getting.

    Hi Tahan007,
    Check these threads out:
Cannot connect to the App Store since upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Cannot connect to App Store since 10.8.1
why is my app store sign in saying connection failed?
Also if you're running any anti-virus SW, you might try temporarily disabling it

Lucky you, it did not work for many users (which as it should be) so MS produced a new version, for ML and Mavericks.
It's in the App Store, for free.

It also looks like you attempted to use Apple Remote Desktop, which does not do Windows.

  • Does Thunderbird automatically maintain a constant connection with the email server?

    Hi all,
I have only recently installed Thunderbird and I was wondering whether the software maintains a constant connection with the email server(s)?
I have a few email accounts configured and I need to be notified immediately when a new email arrives in an inbox of any of them, so would it be possible for the program to maintain a constant connection, if doesn't do os already? Is there an add-on for this?
    Thanks!

If you click on the name of your email account (such as *****.gmai.com) and view settings for this account, and Server settings, there is an option to Check for new messages every XX minutes. I would not recommend a setting of less than 5 minutes.

  • Outgoing Mail Problem with Verizon DSL

I live in Hampton Roads, VA area and have Verizon's DSL with wireless gateway equipment on Dell Computer. My iMAC connects wirelessly to the gateway and connects to Internet fine and receives email fine on the Verizon POP account. I have verified settings and read most of the topics on the post and am very frustrated. There does not seem to be a definative answer on whether outgoing mail should work with Verizon DSL. Any new insights on this topic or something to look at? Dell is set to use Port 25 and sends fine so I know this is the port to use.

What does “is not working” mean? What’s the problem exactly?
If you cannot send with the outgoing (SMTP) server provided by your ISP, the problem could be that you’re telling Mail to authenticate, but the outgoing server doesn’t actually require authentication because it can determine who you are by other means.

  • Setting up Time Capsule to Work With Verizon DSL

I am not able to establish a new network using the Time Capsule I just purchased. The funny thing is that the capsule is replacing an Airport Express that works just fine. Same cables, same location, just that the time capsule cannot get an appropriate IP address from the DSL modem. Anyone have any experience in setting up the unit (using Airport Utility) to connect with Verizon?

I realise that, because it's 802.11g the MacBook will not be able to achieve the potential connection speed of the 'N' Time Capsule, however, even if I had the TC, with a G4 PowerBook on the LAN everything would connect at the (lower) 11g speed anyhow, wouldn't it?
As you have already ascertained, any 802.11g device connected to a 802.11n network will only operate at the highest available bandwidth that 802.11g allows ... mainly 54 Mbps. In addition, when even a single 802.11g device connects to a 802.11n network, 802.11n clients will only get about 70% of 802.11n's top bandwidth. To get around this, you can configure a "dual band" network. With this type of network, you can run both "g" and "n" clients on separate network to get the highest bandwidth possible for each. So, in your case, the Time Capsule will run a "n" only network and your AX will provide the "g" only one. The AX would be connected directly to the TC by Ethernet and reconfigured as a bridge so clients on either network would "see" each other.

  • Help setting up wireless network with Verizon DSL

I bought a MacBook Pro and an Air Port Extreme yesterday. I have an iMAC G5 from October 2004. I have Verizon DSL service and a Westell Series 6100 modem.
Bottom line --> I can't get the wireless connection to work.
I have successfully used a wired dsl connection with my iMAC G5. But, I tried to just disconnect the ethernet cable from my computer and put it into the Airport Extreme and that didn't work. I used the utility to set up the base station and the network, but I'm not sure if I did it properly.
I know a PPPoE is involved but I'm not sure of how to configure the system properly. I'm also not sure if the problem is with the configuration of the AirPort extreme or with my Verizon modem.
All I know is that I want to see a green light on that thing and not a flashing orange one.
Does any one have some instructions for setting up your AirPort Extreme using Verizon DSL? Has anyone else had similar problems? Thanks in advance!
    MacBook Pro & iMAC G%   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Just finished solving this problem. I am not a strong tech guy, but I know that since it works for others it is just a question of poking and pushing. Anyway it was nine hours in the making...
My snow airport working with an airport express had been bullet proof with verizon dsl for a couple of years. I wanted to upgrade since I am now Intel mac and hit the blinking amber light.
I am only going to be able to give the big picture... The AEBS found and worked with all my computers from the beginning, so the problem became that the default IP Address and Subnet Mask were wrong and never automatically adjusted by the assistants.
Take your working plug-in ethernet connections or the working snow connections from the Airport Utility Internet Connect page. I used the manual configure process to access the info screens.
I copied all the numbers down, but I believe you only have to insert the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address and DNS servers. I put "dsl.verizon.net" in the domain search box.
Go up to the IPv4 pull down menu and select manual and put in the numbers you copied. Then click Update. When the software returns control, the AEBS will still be orange.
Toggle the IPv4 to "using DHCP" Click Update.
This should bring the green light.
I think I then updated the Network Preference Pane, probably had to manually put in my wireless password again. Browser and mail program worked.
I think that was all. I may have had to repeat the toggle to make it stick, but I am operational for the last several hours, including the airport express, a G4 laptop and a Sony PC.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can't I maintain a wireless connection with my p1102w?

Hi, I need help with my LaserJet P1102W.  Though mine is fairly new and prints fine, I simply cannot get it to maintain a wireless connection to my HP laptop.  I have re-installed the drivers and re-configured everything possible with the wireless settings, but nothing works.  Once I shut down the printer or my PC, then the connection is lost and has to be re-configured the next time I turn the printer on and try to print!  In fact, lately I've just given up and connected my HP laptop to it via a USB cable, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a wireless printer.  I am at my wits end.  And by the way, I have a VERY strong wireless connection in my house with Verizon FIOS -- download speeds routinely exceed 16 MB/sec.  Is there a simple solution or fix?

I have the same issue. My IP5 has always had weaker wifi than our IP4, Ipad mini and Ipod. Now its to the point where i have to be in the same room as my wireless router in order for my IP5 to connect to wifi at a useable strenght. While my other devices still have the same strong reception.
Tried resetting, restoring, router reset.... nothing helped.

  • New computer (windows 7) connection problem with Verizon DSL

I just bought a new computer to replace a dead one.  I took the old one away and plugged the new one into the Verizon cable.  I have Verizon DSL, no wireless, no network at home, just a computer and a Westell modem.
On the new computer, I have a successful internet connection in that I can reach Google.  I can conduct a Google search, but when I click on a search result I cannot reach that site.  I CAN successfully send and receive Gmail.  I CANNOT connect to Verizon's website, Amazon, Washington Post, Ebay, or most other sites.  What happens when I try is a small box comes up in the browser window saying "Connecting to [name of site]" and the in-progress thing goes around and around.  This will go on for as long as I let it (more than 1/2 hour), with no timeout or failure message -- just an empty browser window.  Results are the same in Explorer and Firefox.
I hooked a borrowed computer into my Verizon line and the internet connection works fine to any site I try (I'm on it now).  Verizon techs have also done a line test and it's fine.
I have taken the new computer (running Windows 7) back to the store 3 times.  They have hooked it into an Earthlink DSL line there and have shown me they have no difficulty whatsoever going to any of the sites that are not working for me at home.  They say the problem MUST be something to do with my Verizon connection.
I've called Verizon tech support 3 times now.  They say it's not them, and there's nothing they can do -- but their Remote Assistant software isn't able to connect IN to my machine, just as I can't connect OUT to the Verizon site.  I have asked for a more up-to-date modem and was refused.
I was tempted to just upgrade to FIOS but Verizon is being so unhelpful I am ready to bail on Verizon entirely.  Before I do, can anyone suggest what might be going on here?

I bought an HP computer at Staples and had the same problem.  HP and Verizon could find no problems.  Verizon said the would send me a new modem to see if that fixed the problem. The problem was corrected after Verizon sent me a new modem for free.

  • Cannot get MAC to connect with SMART TV

I have Verizon router-modem - Samsung smart tv - keep doing tech walk thrus with Verizon and Samsung - they went internal and even pulled my router info - bought tv while re-cuping after surgery   -  I am wondering if it is router/modem Verizon sent me - (this was a replacement they said  they sent me was in 2006  - which they didn't - I bought Linksys -) I feel it is one small thing - has anyone else had any problems with their iMAC and SmartTV - - and I thought it was going to be easy?? -Really appreciate any info -

I set up my Samsung Smart TV recently, and it was straightforward, thankfully. You say you're trying to connect the TV to the iMac - it might just be the terminology, but you should be connecting to the wifi network (I assume you are connecting via wifi, not ethernet) broadcast from the router.
I can retrace my steps as to what I did if it helps. I think the process on the various Samsung's is fairly similar across the various models.

  • Do App Tabs and Tab Groups maintain an active connection with the websites they represent?

I really like the concept behind App Tabs and Tab Groups. I have a few questions, though.
    1. Will I use more memory opening a new window or creating a tab group with the same number of tabs? I am addicted to Alt+Tab and am frequently frustrated by tabs because I have to use the mouse (I don't use ctrl+1,2,3 because I can rarely remember where a given tab is in the sequence). I see there is a shortcut to access the panorama view, so maybe tab groups will work for me. It really is down to which method uses up more memory.
    2. With tab groups, I assume the websites maintain a live connection until you close a tab or a group. This is not like a fancy shortcut, right? Is the same true of App Tabs? We have an unreliable connection speed and I am wary of keeping all my apps connected through potentially long periods of non-use.
At any given time, it is not uncommon for me to have 5 or 6 tabs open (per window), but if I use App Tabs, it could bump me up to 20 or more. Since a handful of my "apps" periodically update (fb, twitter, email, pandora, etc), I'm not sure it makes sense to keep them all active. Any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations on the subject are welcome.
    Thanks!

With the help of information from user, ptressel, in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032154#answer-673322 a post here about the existence of sessionstore.js when version 33 was released], I was able to easily recover my tabs and tab groups as follows:
    # close Firefox and, perhaps, allow a few seconds (30s?) for any final closing of files;
    # check to see if you have a sessionstore.js file in your profile folder, named like the one I documented in my original post above;
    # if it is not timestamped prior to the discovery of your problem, open the sessionstore-backups folder;
    # check if the recovery.js file is suitably timestamped and, if not, the recovery.bak.
    # At this point, you are likely to find that none of them are prior to your problem occuring. If so, open your backups of this folder and go through steps 2-4 to find a file prior to your problem occuring.
    # When you find a file, copy it to the root of your current profile folder and name it, "sessionstore.js"
    # Open Firefox. Mine opened up as desired.
This is a Windows solution. Sorry I can't comment on other platforms, but I'd bet that as this is just a file copy and renaming, it is likely the same.
For Windows users, you may find you need to sign out and login as an administrator in order to access the backups. You need not logoff your standard account, but do have Firefox closed as described above.
    Hope that helps.

  • Cannot be more dissatisfied with Verizon customer service!

I used to say Verizon is great because it has a great customer service. Now, I am having a second thought. I have just bought a new phone with a new contract and since then I have been having all kinda technical issues with the phone reception and its 4G network. I reported the problem to the Verizon immediately, and in response, instead of simply replacing the phone, they have put me through some time consuming technical checks for three times! and at the end, they just simply left me alone with the problem. Also, every time they acted like they had no idea what the previous person had said/done and made me start the whole process from the scratch! Can you believe it?!
I know I was naive to take their words but I trusted them and now here I am, stuck with a phone and out of the 14 day guarantee replacement window. The last technical support I spoke with literally tricked me, manipulated me and at the end lied to me. After a comprehensive technical check including even a change of SIM card, she fully acknowledged the problem and said she would replace my phone with a new phone (a different device) and do the price match. She asked me to wait for her to double check with her colleague. She never got back to me. I contacted her many times, and sent her many messages but she did not have even the courtesy to call me back. She dragged this issue for so long that now I am out of 14-day guarantee replacement window and stuck with the manufacture warranty replacement!
I am starting to believe that this is a technique they use to make the replacement process very inconvenient and tiring for customers, so eventually they’d give up, and guess what, many people actually do! Furthermore, when they make you wait too long (more than 14 days), you will no longer be eligible for the 14-day guarantee replacement. They get their way and you are stuck with the phone and manufacture. I cannot believe some customer agent use such “dirty” techniques to “manage” the situation (read: get rid of the customer by any means).
The thing I am more angry about than the phone itself is the fact that they insulted my intelligence by lying about the replacement, wasting my time, and the fact that they asked me to trust them but did not return my trust. Speechless!

These are the Verizon Residential forums used for peer-to-peer support for FiOS, DSL and phone line users.
It looks like your issue is with Verizon Wireless.  You should check out their forums and support on their web page:

    Good Luck.

  • Cannot open pages while connected with AEBS ?

I only have a dialup connection through AOL. Finally bought old style AEBS with modem so i could connect with my iBook at home. Seem to have it configured to network with my G5 ok. Got it to connect to AOL, i'm online. My problem is i can't open any pages. I usually use Firefox and it opens fine but after that i can't access any websites, same thing with Safari. Every thing works fine as long as i'm not connected through Airport. Where should i look to remedy this?

    Hi Robert!
See if this AOL Internet access requires an update when
    using AirPort helps.
If you are seeing an asterisk * when trying to
    navigate to webpages, try this;
A fix for this is to change the modem scripts AOL is
    using.
Sign Off, but don't quit AOL.
When signed OFF of AOL, but with the Sign-On screen
open, click: SET UP > Expert Set UP.
Click : Add TCP Connection to bring up new
    dialog box.
Pull down the menu in Advanced Options - Connection
    Scripts:
Change the connection script to TCP (DO NOT
    use Airport)
Click Okay and close all windows.
    Good Luck!
