I don't understand......anyone please explain.

I am quite new in Java. I read some tutorial and I don't understand somthing
There are two file. The first one named Particle.java
public Particle(double x, double y)
      this(x,y,1);
   public Particle(double x, double y, double mass)
      this.x = x; this.y = y; this.mass = mass;
   public double getWeight()
      return 9.8*mass;
   public double distanceFromOrigin()
      return Math.sqrt(x*x + y*y);
}The other file named MyApplication.java
public class MyApplication
   public static void main(String[] args)
      /* Need an instance of class Particle - a particle object;
      assign it to the variable a which is of type Particle. */
      Particle a = new Particle(1.0,1.0);
      System.out.println("Distance of particle a from origin = " + a.distanceFromOrigin());
      System.out.println("Mass of particle a = " + a.mass);
      Particle b = new Particle();
      b.x = 2.0;
      b.y = 3.0;
      b.mass = 3;
      System.out.println("Distance of particle b from origin = " + b.distanceFromOrigin());
      System.out.println("Mass of particle b = " + b.mass);
      System.out.println("Weight of particle b = " + b.getWeight());
}When run the program. This is the result that I get
Distance of particle a from origin = 1.4142135623730951
Mass of particle a = 1.0
Distance of particle b from origin = 3.605551275463989
Mass of particle b = 3.0
Weight of particle b =29.400000000000002
My question is I do not understand why Distance of particle b from origin = 3.605551275463989 Anyone please explain how to get this value.......please

You call this line...
Math.sqrt(x*x + y*y);
x = 2, y = 3
so..
Math.sqrt(4 + 9) = Math.sqrt(13)
the square root of 13 is 3.6055...

  • IOS4.0.x: I just don't understand. Please explain...

    ...how exactly the same hardware (give or take physical tolerences) loaded with exactly the same software, can run differently on everyone's phones?
    So many people are saying that they've lost this, lost that, this doesn't work, that doesn't work.
    Surely all phones should be exactly the same shouldn't they? It's exactly the same software going onto everyone's phone so, assuming there is no third party software interfering with the Apple processes, they should all behave the same way.
    Why do they not appear to be doing that?
    Just asking

    Surely all phones should be exactly the same shouldn't they?
    Assuming no defect, the hardware would be the same, yes, other than the size of the flash RAM. But some devices do indeed have hardware defects, some obvious and some very subtle; for instance, a small defect in RAM can cause all sorts of strange problems not easily traced to a specific hardware problem.
    It's exactly the same software going onto everyone's phone so, assuming there is no third party software interfering with the Apple processes
    That, however, is an assumption that it is incorrect to make. Very few people have exactly the same load of software, since few people have no third-party apps at all. And misbehaved apps, or corrupted cache or data files (which could occur even with nothing but Apple's software on the iPhone), can cause problems, something which has been well established by the number of people for whom restoring their iPhone as a new phone rather than restoring a backup has cured the problems being experienced.

    The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
    If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

    Just saw your thread, and it looked like a candidate for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce Roll Back the Driver issue. If your computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card, then the following applies to you. You do not want to update the driver. Rather you want to roll back the driver version, probably to about May 2013. For your convenience I have done a copy/paste of the forum announcement which gives all the details and fix of the matter.
    Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
    If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
    Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
    Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
    Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
    A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
    This matter has been very specific to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce card user. So, if your computer is using other than a NVIDIA GeForce card, it is likely that the message does not apply to you, and we can then explore other troubleshooting possibities.
    Looking forward to your follow up. Do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything written here.
    Thanks.

  • The Director role is optional in Lync Server 2013 - could anyone please explain why the director server has lost its importance??

    Could anyone please explain why the director has been removed from spotlight as it had much importance in LYNC 2010 and now being an optional role in LYNC server 2013.[any call flows regarding director servers would be much useful]

    Hi SJ Praveen,
    A Director is a server running Lync Server 2013 that authenticates user requests, but does not home any user accounts. Lync 2013 Front End servers have the same registrar service and functionality
    as the Director.
    The Director isn't providing any special functionality. If the Director goes down, all pools would become inaccessible when the clients queried DNS for the SRV record until an administrator
    makes a manual internal DNS change that points users to a Front End pool to handle the sign-in request from Lync clients. Microsoft has made the Director functionality relevant for organizations that have specific security requirements, such as allowing all
    external users to register to a specific internal server instead of the Front End servers. This server role is merely optional and not needed for most Lync Server 2013 deployments.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Can anyone please explain this code to me?

    I am a new (junior)programmer?Can anyone please explain this code to me in lame terms? I am working at a client location and found this code in a project.
    _file name is AtccJndiTemplate.java_
    Why do we use the Context class?
    Why do we use the properties class?
    package org.atcc.common.utils;

      private static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(AtccJndiTemplate.class.getName());
      private String jndiProperties;
      protected Context createInitialContext()
        throws NamingException
        Context context = null;
        InputStream in = null;
        Properties env = new Properties();
        logger.info("Load JNDI properties from classpath file " + this.jndiProperties);
        try
          in = AtccJndiTemplate.class.getResourceAsStream(this.jndiProperties);
          env.load(in);
          in.close();
        catch (NullPointerException e) {
          logger.warning("Did not read JNDI properties file, using existing properties");
          env = System.getProperties();
        } catch (IOException e) {
          logger.warning("Caught IOException for file [" + this.jndiProperties + "]");
          throw new NamingException(e.getMessage());
        logger.config("ENV: java.naming.factory.initial = " + env.getProperty

        return this.jndiProperties;
      public void setJndiProperties(String jndiProperties)
        this.jndiProperties = jndiProperties;
    }

    Hi,
    JNDI needs some property such as the
    java.naming.factory.initial
    java.naming.provider.url
    which are needed by the
    InitialContext(env);
    where env is a properties object
    Now if you can not find the physical property file on the class path
    by AtccJndiTemplate.class.getResourceAsStream(this.jndiProperties);
    where the String "jndiProperties" get injected by certain IOC ( inverse of control container ) such as Spring framework
    if not found then it will take the property from the system which will come from the evniromental variables which are set during the application start up i.e through the command line
    java -Djava.naming.factory.initial=com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory -Danother=value etc..
    I hope this could help

  • Within Music Library can anyone please explain why when I select the option to sort 'Album by Artist' a number of tracks are being treated as separate albums?  How can I correct this?  I have tried to 'drag and drop' but that doesn't work.

    Within music Library can anyone please explain why after I select the option to sort 'Album by Artist' a number of tracks are being treated as separate albums?  How can I fix this?  I have tried to manually correct by 'drag and drop' individual tracks but that doesn't work.  My music library includes a number of repeat album artwork images simply because not all tracks are being listed under the one album making my library more difficult to use than it should.  Any advise would be appreciated.

  • I bought a MacBook Pro Retina a few months ago.  I do not understand why I have more than 100 GB of Others in my storage?  Can anyone please explain?

    My MacBook Pro with Retina display suddenly gave me a message when I boot up ie 'Your startup Disk is full'  then after using a few more times, the screen suddenly become frozen white.  Upon getting help, I managed to delete some files but when I checked the Storage space, the largest occupied space was orange color, named 'Others' which is more than 100 GB out of the total 120 GB!!  I am surprised and do not understand what 'Others' mean.  It is definitely not Audio, Video, Pictures, documents etc  It is not mail too.  If anyone can tell me what 'Others' in storage mean and how to see the contents of 'Others' so that I can delete those irrelevant files.  Any advice and guidance is very much appreciated.  Thanking you in anticipation of your early reply.
    Joe

    "Other" includes everything that is not audio, movies, photos, apps and backups.  In other words it includes the OS, mail, documents...  See http://pondini.org/OSX/LionStorage.html and What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?- Apple Support Communities https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5142

  • Could anyone please explain Polymorphism to me with Example?

    I am trying to learn the concept of Polymorphism in Java and I am having a tough time understanding what it is. I keep confusing it with inheritance which I am now comfortable with but I don't get what the book says about polymorphism and a lot of tutorials I have seen do not seem to explain it as to a layman. Please Help a newbie to programming understand POLYMORPHISM
    Java NewBie

    Here's a real-world example: I had a large data structure (a tree, basically) whose contents aren't relevant to this discussion. I also had a variety of functionality required, a bunch of which required visiting every node of the data structure.
    Now, I could write the same tree-spanning code over and over again for each separate bit of functionality that required it. Or try to create a library function that spanned the tree (although in reality, it's hard to write library functions like that without a degree of polymorphism). But these were either redundant or clumsy or both.
    So the approach I took was to add a "visitAll" method to the data structure. (This is actually an example of encapsulation -- the data and the operations on the data are stuck together.) The visitAll method took an object, and for each node in the tree, it invoked a method (let's call it "absorb") on the given object.

  • Anyone please explain these two router stats.

    Having a (hopefully) minor glitch at the moment with what seems like a stuck IP profile, main thread here.
    A couple of other questions though.
     http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/How-often-do-BT-reset-the-HH-remotely-and-should-it-effect-IP/...
    In the advanced stats are two connection times.
    1. Internet connection time and ADSL connection time.
        I was under the impression ADSL time is the time the hub has been on since the last reset... either by BT or by me pulling the plug. That was showing 6 days... I suspect my problems started when the HH was remotely reset. Am I correct in what this time measures ?
    2. I see there is also an "Internet connection" time... what's that ?
        It shows 1 day 14 hours. What is this figure measuring and what is it's significance ?
    thanks

    That does not disable BT wifi or BT Fon, only your own SSID.
    There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

    When I plug my iphone to my computer it comes up saying "this accessory may not be supported?
    Is there a way to fix this and how?
    It just started this a couple days ago. It was charging perfectly before hand when plugged to the computer.

    Hi Tricia350,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    If you see "this accessory may not be supported," make sure you are charging your iPhone using one of these methods:
    For the quickest charge, connect the device to a power outlet using the USB cable that came with the device and an Apple USB power adapter.
    Connect the device directly to a USB port on your computer (not an external keyboard) using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode; otherwise, the battery may drain instead of charge.
    Depending on the computer, your device may charge quicker if you remove all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse.
    If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to power and that the display (or lid) is open. If the display is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and the device may not charge.
    Connect the device to an externally-powered USB hub.
