I dropped my iphone 4 on concrete and it won't turn on

About an hour ago, i dropped my iPhone on the cement and it won't turn on. I tried restarting it, but that didn't work. Right now it is on the charger. What do I do?

Take it to Apple and get an out of warranty replacement. Be prepared to pay for it.

  • IPhone battery is weird and phone won't turn on.

Hello, I'm having some problems with my new iphone (4s) and I need some assissstance. I recently received a new iphone via insurance (My old iphone broke) and it wont turn back on. I first noticed a problem started when I plugged it in to charge the battery life went down instead of up. I disregarded this because people said it needed to "calibrate itself" and to "let it die on it's own" so i let it die, I immediatly regret that descion. Now, with constant charging throughout the night it still shows no sign of life. I've tried everything i can think of like: Plugging into computer, plugging into wall, holding power button, holding HOME + POWER button, holding power +home + letting go of power button but still holding home button. I'm lost! what can I do? Should I have it taken in? Also, it's worth mentioning that itunes won't recognize it either, meaning it doesnt even think anything is plugged in.
    Thanks a mil,

    Hello Snorrris1234,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  You have taken some really good steps already, and I found an article with additional steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below (you can skip the steps you have already taken):
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • My iPhone died while charging and it won't turn back on

My iPhone 4 died while in the middle of charging. I had it charging on my speakers and when i left it, it was on 30% and charging. I came back an hour later and the screen was black and it would not turn on. I've tried holding the power and home button and tried plugging it into the wall to charge it instead of the speakers. If it matters, I recently updated it to iOS6.

I am having the same issue.  I am currently in the process of trying to downgrade back to iOS5 until they can fix the issues.  There seem to be a multitude of issues with this latest upgrade.  I did find out earlier that unplugging your phone and holding the top button and home button at the same timne works BUT it must be unplugged AND you have to hold it a long time (almost 2 minutes for mine) and sometimes it takes multiple times for it to catch.  I was almost in tears and it finally worked.
I am restoring the phone to the oldest iCloud restoration date allowed (unfortunately only 2 days ago) but hopefully that was before I upgraded.  I don't remember when I did it .  Hopefully this works.

  • I turned iPhone automatic backup off and it won't turn back on.

Ok. So I previously turned off automated backups on iphone. I didn't know there was a gui option to do this so I typed in the terminal command.
defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
This worked. Yet, for some reason, I can't get the opposite command to work (replacing "true" with "false") and I no longer have the right click contextual menu in itunes to manually backup.
Frankly,  a little scary to not be able to backup because I mess with the phone a lot.
PS Any solutions? I haven't recieved any errors through itunes, it is just a lack of options.

You have to get rid of the key AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled.
    Paste this in the Terminal:
    defaults delete com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and now it won't turn on at all, will i lose all of my data, for example my photos and messages etc? and is there any way you can back the phone up without having it switched on?

If you had previously been backing up to iCloud (or a computer with iTunes), you would possibly have a backup.  That said, if you can't turn the phone on, you cannot create a backup of the device now.  Sorry.

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and cannot get it to dry out enough to turn back on.  I may have fried the battery.  I am using an old iPhone 3 temporarily but cannot get all of my current info to sync.  My calendar is up to date but none of my notes have transferred over and the contact list is from when I originally used the iPhone 3 last year.  How do I get my iPhone 4 info synced onto the iPhone 3?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't restore an iPhone 3G from an iPhone 4 backup. Until you get a replacement you can access your iCloud data at iCloud.com on a computer.

  • I dropped my iphone 3gs in water and grabbed it immediately out. It gave me a charger is not supported with device screen every minute or two. I powered it off for the night. I havent experienced problems since. Why does it still work?

I dropped my iphone 3gs in water and grabbed it immediately out. It gave me a charger not supported sign every minute or two. I decided to turn it off for the night and the next morning it worked fine and only the bottom sensor was triggered. Why does it still work and how long will it last?

Water in itself will not kill electronic components if you let it dry out.  Your first reaction to turn it off was a good one but you could have waited even longer.
It also depends what's on your water that will stay after the water itself had dried; like salt. Anything that iseither acid or conductor left on the circuit board will reduce the life of the board.  Given said this, no one could state how long your iPhone will work since no one will know for sure where the water had time to infiltrate before you removed your device and no one what's may left there.
Consider yourself lucky.  I don't understand however what you mean by a sensor triggered.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • Iphone 3 dropped in salt water. Appears non-functional - won't turn on. Nothing on SIM card -- had that checked. Is there ANY way to retrieve the photos and contacts. There is no backup of them.

leave the phone in rice for >24 hours to see if it will recover
you can check itunes as well to see if there are backups there from the top of the screen hit edit (itunes on mac) > preferences > devices , and see if a backup is listed
also check icloud.com to see if you had any of the information backed up there (only possible if have have a 3gs or higher)
also there are data recovery companies that can recover data even from wrecked hard drives but its not cheap, if your interested in that I would say lookup a company called drivesavers, I believe they are authorized to work on even in warranty iphones
    good luck

Could anyone help me with a solution?
Should I change the display or is it a minor damage??
    Thanks for your support

sounds like you broke the display when you dropped it.  There's nothing we users here can do for you.
Since the iPhone warranty does not cover accidental damage, you will have to pay to have your phone repaired or replaced.  You can bring it into Apple for an out of warranty exchange in the country of purchase, or you can find a 3rd party iPhone repair store in your area.

  • I dropped my iphone 4s in water and everything works but the backlight. I have heard rumors that I can take my damaged iPhone into an apple store and trade it in for a new phone and pay the difference. Is this true?

Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price, which pays for an exchange at a discounted price off the full retail sales price.
