I have a 16" mac book pro. The bottom of the Photoshop image window is below my screen view. I cannot shrink my Photoshop window!   I tried changing the Display what else can I do?

That was true for many years...but not anymore. Adobe started allowing window resize from any edge (not just any corner, but any edge) a couple of versions ago, on the Mac, to match Windows. On top of that, in OS X Lion, Apple itself now allows window resizing from any edge in any application. That said, even in Lion, I noticed that I had to move the Photoshop CS6 window edges away from the monitor edge before I would get the double-arrow resize pointer. Not sure if that's a bug. Here's a picture of what Photoshop window resizing looks like:
Also, if resetting workspaces doesn't work, you could try a complete Photoshop preferences reset. Start Photoshop CS6 and press Command+Option+Shift, and a reset dialog box should come up. Click OK.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this isn't MacWorld.
when I want to write @ I have to press g instead of the @ key
Are you sure you don't have to press ⌥-G (Option-G) to get @?
Anyway, sounds like a keyboard/keyboard layout mismatch.
Go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources. From "Select input methods to use" enable (check) the following
    Keyboard & Character Viewer
    U.S.
    Spanish
    Spanish - ISO
Also enable "Show Input menu in menu bar".
The Input menu should appear to the right of your menu bar, with the icon of a national flag. From this menu, choose "Show Keyboard Viewer". Then compare the layout displayed by Keyboard Viewer with the label on your MBP's keyboard. If it doesn't match, choose a different layout from the Input menu.
My suspicion is that you're using a US keyboard with a Spanish keyboard layout, hence the difference you noted.

For example so that I can just press shift or another key to get the German character.

Some may already exist, but you will have to learn them.  On my old system these can be found through keyviewer.app  For example, if I press option+s I get ß   Umlaut is a bit cumbersome as option+u then the actual letter.  It may be possible to bind a key to do this function, possibly through System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts
I have old, old references for utilities that let you rebind keys to other functions, and you would have to see if they have modern equivalents.

Hello Teddy53149 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
    Follow this procedure:
Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support
As they recommend and as always when you're messing with administrator accounts back everything up first.

I have a new mac book pro (sept 2014) and am suddenly stuck on the log-in screen. Keyboard input is not working to enter my password. Seems to be a log in issue as keyboard works for forced troubleshooting. (And b/c when I first noticed the problem, I was able to enter my log in password but then everything sort of froze. Now, no ability to enter the password.) Already tried a basic restart and a cmmnd/ cntrl/ pwr troubleshoot to no effect.

The 2009's didn't support sound on HDMI. That came in 2010. Are you sure it ever worked?

  • I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and somehow it crashes the mac side peridoically.  I am told I need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the recovery drive.  will that delete the windows partition too??

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto.  I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system.  My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too.  If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

I have a problem with iphoto (have a mac book pro): the icon in the dock appears with a question mark, and the application is gone!!! Can someone tell what's going on? Yesterday I had the same problem with itunes: I downloaded the last version (it's free), but I cannot do the same with iphoto, and more important: I need to know what is happening!!! Please help me!

Applications should not disappear all by themselves.
If they are then that coud indicate serious problems with your hard drive.
Backup everything up as quickly as possible.
Using Disk Utility verify your system disk.

  • I have had my mac-book pro for almost a year, and have just got OSX Mavericks, and now the sound on my laptop is working in a sporadic way, can I change this at all on system preferences or will I have to get it repaired?

On my mac-book pro the sound isnt working after I have installed OSX Mavericks, should I take it to be repaired, or can I do something on System Preferences?

In addition to checking system preferences/sound/output and selecting built in if that does not work, make sure volume is up and mute not checked.
You can try the following, Take a set of headphones and plug theim in and out several times (there is a micro switch that sometimes gets stuck)
Go to applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, see if you can select built in there, make sure volume is uo mute not checked.
    Try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
Power off, power back on holding the following keys   OPTION + COMMAND + P + R
Continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times, then release, reboot

i have tried buying a new charger incase this was the problem, it wasnt, it just wont icharge/turn on at all, im just wondering would apple replace it, as  am a student and need a computer and this is my only one?

Sorry no Apple will not replace it. What happened was an accident and the Apple warranty does not cover accidental damages.
So it looks like you will need to buy a new computer or pay to have your Mac fixed.

I have an old mac book pro built in 2006. I just use it in the kitchen to go on the internet--which it does fairly well. It's running OS 10.6.8. Would it be risky to upgrade to the OS 10.7.4 Lion. Or should I leave well enough alone? I was hoping that the upgrade would allow me to use an old version of Kindle for Mac. I need to get the machine into 2012 functionality. If I can't do it, no worries.

The very early 2006 MBPs are limited to Snow Leopard (10.6.8).  If your MBP is a model Identifier 2.1 or 2.2, then you can install Lion (10.7.5).  Note that the transition to Lion might mean that some applications will not be compatible so updates or substitutions would be needed.
I have a 2006 MBP, Model Identifier 1.2, and it is running Snow Leopard very efficiently.  It is just a bit slower than newer ones, especially in the graphics area.  Otherwise is is a very good machine.
    Ciao.

CS5 for Windows can only be installed on Windows operating system.
You would need to purchase CS5 for Mac OS.
Given that CS5 is now 4 versions back, it's unlikely you'll find a copy.
You could get DW CC from the Creative Cloud which supports both Win/Mac platforms.
