Edit > Preferences > Store check Music under Automatic Downloads.
Open the iTunes Store from left hand column, then select Purchasedfrom the column on the right, click the Not In My Library button and select the tunes you want to download again.
That said, you seem to be under a misapprehension as to how iTunes works, or at least how it has worked in the past. It has, until recently, been up to you take care of your purchases once they have been downloaded. You had a one-time download which you were reminded to back up. With the recent change to this policy you can at least download your store purchases again, but having a personal backup of your iTunes store purchases, stuff purchased elsewhere and files ripped from your CDs will still be preferable to gathering all the stuff together again in the event of a disaster.

Correct.
The ipod will sycn to one and only one computer at a time. Syncing to another will indeed erase the content from the ipod.
Copy everything form your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -

After getting a new desktop I downloaded iTunes and authorized my new computer and then de-authorized my old one, When I try to update my 5S it says my phone is not authorized and list my wifes email address as the account holder and not mine. It sounds as though you are experiencing an issue with an Apple ID and authorizations. Based on your post, it sounds like you are familiar with the authorizing and deauthorizing process. The Apple ID in question (your wife's email) may be originating from the iPhone you are attempting to update. Is it possible that your wife created an Apple ID or iCloud account which is signed in on that iPhone? Yes, you can!(:
STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

My iPhone 4 will not open my purchased apps, anyone know what is going on? I just recently bought a new laptop and downloaded iTunes onto and synced my phone. I was also talking on my phone and it died, then I charged it and that is when the apps would no longer open. You need to transfer all content from the iPad into the iTunes library, backup the iPad, restore from the backup and then sync with iTunes. If you had the iTunes library stored or backed up elsewhere, that would be the ideal thing to use, but apparently you don't have I backed up so .....

Recently purchased a laptop, came with windows 7 64bit, downloaded itunes and tried to sync both the 3gs and Ipod touch, itunes doesn't recognize either. The computer doesn't show the devices on the device manager but I am able to charge them both from the usb ports. Tried uninstall and reinstall itunes and rebooting the apple mobile device support.
