Syncing requires a backup as part of the sync process.
Delete any existing backups in iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Devices (or simply move them to a different folder on the computer) then try a backup or sync.

I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too. I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network. For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network. If you used the Apple Professional Training Series 'Aperture 3' book, then this was in lesson #1 which had you set the 'Image Export' preset for the 'Email Medium - JPEG' to 25% of Original Size and to add a watermark (which happens to be the PSD file that overlays the image with 'For Review Only').
You can fix this by going to 'Aperture menu > Presets > Image Export...' and selecting the 'Email Medium - JPEG' preset and then deselecting the 'Show Watermark' option.
Note - you can also reset the 'Percentage of Original' field to %100 to get back to the defaults.
If you did not use the APTS - Aperture 3 book mentioned above, then I am not sure where you got the watermark.

Well, you use the different accounts such Phone Numbers, email addresses. And make sure that your iPhones have no receipient address in common, then you can avoid this issue.
I use iMessage on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, iPod touch.
Each of them has a individual address to receive messages, so they won't combine all the messages among all the devices.
Try this, if it doesn't work, tell me, I'll figure another way out.

As you backup the iPhone in iTunes, it overwrites the last backup. Files are kept as they are changed, so that would explain how you get different dates in your backup folder. The only backups that are saved and not overwritten are the ones done just prior to a restore. You do have the option to go back in time on a Windows computer, however depending on the last time you set a restore point in Windows, it could be back further than you are willing to go.

I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money. try going into settings, safari and clear history. You may also want to clear cookies (means you will need to sign back into sites)
It's possible that that page is a popup ad of some sort that can't run, for example a flash based ad. You may have picked the cookie up browsing the internet and now that it's in there the only way to get rid of it is to clear your history and cookies.

If your account is disabled then you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it

I just got an iPhone 4 and have been downloading apps from the iTunes store when I encountered difficulty with two specific apps. Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
