I have no sound at all

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me.  I suddenly have no sound AT ALL on my computer, but everything appears to be working correctly.  I do not hear any sounds on start up, no email sounds, and no sounds when I try to mute or unmute.  I cannot play music on itunes.
When I look at my sound settings, they all seem to be working fine--nothing greyed out, internal speakers checked. Obviously mute is off--but it is as if mute is permanently on...
I have tried restarting the computer numerous times, plugging in various headphones and auxiliary jacks several times, I've repaired the disk through disk utility, and reset the PRAM (no sound tones during that procedure, either).
Please please help!  I'm supposed to play music from my computer tomorrow night for a party!  This is coming at a most inopportune time!
Lauren

I tried resetting the SMC as well.  Nothing worked.
I took the computer in to Apple and they said it has a faulty Logic Board.
I just wanted to follow up because a lot of these threads I was looking at ended before the original user got a chance to state how their issue was ultimately resolved.
My problem was not resolvable at all; the hardware will have to be replaced.
My computer is fairly new (purchased May 2011).
I wanted to document here that the genius tech said they have had a few MBPs from my "batch" with faulty logic boards.

  • After recent download of update to iPad, I now have no sound and all my games are slow. What happened?

I recently downloaded the offered update to iPad.  Now I have now sound and all my games are slow.  Plus, anything with a video while surfing can't be viewed. Does anyone know hat happened and how to fix it?

    1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • I do not have any sounds at all.

I do not have any sounds at all. All volumes are turned up. No rings, no vibrations and card games have no sound.

Make sure the side switch (above volume buttons) is not set to mute.
Make sure Do Not Disturb is off (Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access Control Center and make sure the moon icon is not lit)
Try a Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

  • HT4085 I have no sound at all, no music, no game sound, no video play ability, just stopped working suddenly, what can i do?

I have no sound at all, no music, no game sounds, video won't play, it just stopped suddenly.  All other stuff works, email, web, books, etc.  Is there someting I can do?

I can't tell you WHY this worked but I'll share just in case...
I had the same problem.  No sound, the volume control buttons did nothing.  The sound icon would appear but no bars indicating the sound level.
My phone was NOT on mute, but I flicked the mute button anyway.
I don't know why or how, but that made the sound come back and the volume control buttons start working again.
(Just before this, I realized all my texts were gone - they came back with a reset but still!)

  • My pad does not have any sounds at all

Please . My ipad does not have any sounds at all .. I dont know what to do
I shut it off while there was music playing and when i turned it back on , there was no more sounds completely

There's a little button by the volume rocker switch that's a dual purpose button. It's an all mute or a rotation lock. Could you have flipped that button by mistake?

  • Everytime I install iTunes 10.7 and then reboot, I have no sound at all.

    Scenario:
I install iTunes 10.7 and everything works great.  Until I shut down my computer.  When I turn my computer back on, there is no sound at all. No startup chimes from Windows 7, none of my music or video files have any sound.  If I open iTunes and start playing a song, there is no sound, but also the song doesn't even start playing.
When this happened the first time, I tried everything I could to try and get sound back.  I installed the newest versions of my sound drivers and also for the chipsets on the mb, and even the video card. Everything is up to date already. I tried unplugging all of the cables and plugging them back in.  Nothing worked.
So I did a system restore to the only restore point available which was a couple of days before.  Voila.  Success.  Everything is hunky dory.  Oops, no iTunes.  I'll just go reinstall that. Alrighty, now we're cooking.  Time for bed, I'll just shut this down.  Next morning...no sound again. I have repeated this process 4 times all weekend, trying to work out why it is happening and on the most recent one, the only thing I reinstalled was iTunes. And then I immediately rebooted.  No sound.  It would seem that iTunes is the culprit.
On the most recent attempt I made, there is strangely no restore point available that is not corrupted.  I no longer have a process with which to reverse it.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try in order to resolve this more permenantly?

  • I accidentally uninstalled the audio program that came with the computer many years ago. Now I have no sound at all on the computer and can't get it back without a CD apparently - but I have none.

Can I reinstall an audio program that I accidentally removed? Does Firefox have an audio program I can use instead?

VLC is a great, Free, player -> http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
But changes are if you have no sound, you did more than uninstall a player, you uninstalled the driver....

  • HT4623 my iphone4 updated to ios6.0.1 and now i have no sounds at all on any of my apps.  What is going on and how can i fix it?

My iphone 4 updated to ios6.0.1 and now i have no sound in any of my apps? how do i fix this?

Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone begins to restart itself, ignore the "slide to power off" let the iPhone restart itself. See if better. If still problem, Restore iPhone with iTunes 10.7 or 11 on computer. See if better, if not and there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, clean iPhone Charging Port with clean dry toothbrush. See if better, if not, clean again with small amount of Isopropyll Alcohol.

I am a new iphone user and have had no problem until today, all of my sound is gone, including itunes.  Don't know exactly where to look, I haven't changed any settings.  Help.

  • Since updating to IOS 5.1.1 on my iPad 2 I have lost sound on all my apps through the speakers, still there on earphones and music plays normally, any ideas?

I installed the latest update yesterday and today my music plays fine but all of my apps only have sound through my earphones and nothing at all throu the speaker. Is anyone else having the same problem? How do I get it fixed?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music/iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • My iphone 3gs have no sound at all

my iPhone 3gs has no sound coming from it at all.Like when i play music get a msg a phone call there is jus no sound coming from it what so ever PLEASE HELP!!

Try restarting your device, hold the power button until "Slide to Power Off" shows up, click that and try turning the phone back on.
If that does not resolve it, try backing up your iPhone to your computer and restoring from your back-up.
If that does not resolve it, try restoring your iPhone as a NEW device.
And if none of these work, try taking it into a local Apple store and seeing if the Genius Bar will see you, it could be a hardware issue, and if it is in warranty the replacement should be covered.

  • HT202157 For a while now sound is slow to come on with Apple TV. We have no sound at all after an hour. We are running with the 5.2 update.

Sound isn't coming on with Apple TV. Sound works otherwise.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.
