I having difficulties connecting to a printer on a workgroup in my office

A friend configured the workgroup on my office pc and named it Sever. he connected all the computers to the server without connecting the printers so i decided to add a printer to the network so that laptops connected wirelessly could access the printer.
i configured it by going through a tutorial i found on microsoft site about how to "add a printer to a home network".
it worked fine until it stopped working two days later. all office document could identify the printer on the server but cannot print. other computers and laptops can print but my laptop connected wirelessly cannot print.
i decided to add the printer again by following the same procedure of going to "devices and printers" and clicking on "add a printer" and typing the address of the printer to install drivers and start printing as i did initially,
however, this time around  i was asked to enter username and password.
i don't know if this username and password request is from the sever ( desktop pc running windows 7). all attempts to enter the username and password prove futile.
i really need help as i cannot afford a new printer right now.
i want an in-dept knowledge on joining and creating a homegroup/workgroup/domain and why i cannot open and access files and folders on other computers connected to the network and also why i am always prompted to enter a username and password  before
i can access files on other computers connected to the network
can i still connect the Pcs to share one printer without login in username and password as the previous one worked without that?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Hello Mattern Adjei,
Are all these computer Windows 7?
If my understanding is right, now some computers in the office can use the printer and some can’t.
Do all computers need to type username and password when you access network folder?
Please check have you made any changes before this issue.
Please take a look at the following article about printer troubleshooting.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/printer-problems-in-windows-help#fix-printer-problems=windows-7&v1h=win8tab2&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1
1. Check network connection, try to ping the IP address of the printer
2. Run printer troubleshooter
3. Update the printer driver
How do you access the folder or file? Are they share folder?
About how to create share folder, we could take a look at the following article.

  • Anyone else having difficulties connecting to AIM using Messages?

For the past day or so, Messages refuses to connect to my AIM account. I have iChat accounts using my old .Mac and MobileMe IDs that work relatively well (in spite of frequent disconnects). Many of my professional contacts are on my legacy AIM Buddy List, and now I can't access them.
I checked Console, and this is what I see:

I also tried logging into www.aim.com, but the site logs me out as soon as I log in.
Has this happened to anyone else?
With respect to the disconnects I mentioned above, Messages on both my 2011 15" MacBook Pro and my mid-2008 24" iMac seem to disconnect from most online services (e.g. GoogleTalk, AIM, Jabber) whenever I walk away from my computer for a few minutes. The accounts that use the AOL servers (AIM, .Mac and Mobileme) disconnect frequently, even when I'm sitting in front of the computer. It would appear that my account gets banned for too many disconnects after a while, to the point that I can't reconnect unless I wait a long time. I've read other complaints about this in the Support Communities.
It's as if my network connection is unstable and causes timeouts and disconnects in the background. I've followed some tips I found on the web, including deleting the affected accounts and changing the MTU value in my Network settings.
Has anyone had any communication with Apple that indicates they recognize networking/connection issues affecting Messages, or that they may be working on a fix?
    R.

    Definitely.
I put a query on this site and can no longer find it.
If I goes to Buddies list, everything is greyed out.
If I try new message, I can send one to their AIM account and click on the green camera next to their name but they do not get the invitation.
They can contact me.  (They have not upgraded and still have iChat.)
If we do a threeway iChat, I can to hold my mouse down to widen the window in order to see the second person.

  • I am having difficulties connecting to my TalkTalk router all of a sudden. The router is downstairs, but I can pick up BT wi-fi from the next door neighbour.

Without moving my router or iMac, I can not now connect to my router which is downstairs and almost directly below my iMac. But I can connect to a BT FON network which is presumably coming from our neighbour - further away. Have I suddenly developed a "dead spot", or something else?  And will that dead-spot be eliminated by setting up an Airport base station???

Yes, on-line chat is nothing but a nuisance.  I've just scanned their current system and it has changed markedly.   You could try another route.   Call BT and through their technical department you could 'complain' that your neighbours system is impinging on yours.   Talk Talk uses BT anyway.

I am having trouble printing I have a connection to my printer wirelessly but does not print out the correct page I want. When I do print I get a bunch of pages more than is needed and also get a code and symbols please help I am jammed at work

This can be the result of selecting the wrong driver. An older, unsupported laser printer will sometimes work with the generic Postscript driver.

  • HELP! I have a new mac book pro and I'm having problems getting it to print. We are trying to do it through the network (wireless). It keeps pausing or telling me the connection failed

Ok. I have a new macbookpro which I love. However, we can't get it to print. We just got Comcast with a modem and wireless router. We can all get into the net wirelessly (4 of us). My son set our PC to share the printer, gave it a name and got his PC to work through it. Mine kept pausing (it's been a week now). Finally connected directly to the printer and it immediately went out and found the drivers (for all HP photosmart series) and installed them (I think they are installed. At least they are listed under drivers in the print/fax section). We then did a test print with it hooked up and it worked. Back to wireless and it keeps pausing or telling me it can no longer communicate with the printer. Tried going back and printing while connected to the cable and it didn't work. Several pages of one liners with gibberish on it (some words like fax, document it) but then it failed. I did tell it the wrong model of printer the other day and there is a picture of it under the real printer (which is listed by the name we gave it on my pc). But I know have the correct driver and it shows it in the bar under the driver listing. The other picture of the wrong model is not highlighted and I don't know how to delete it). It just keeps pausing and telling me I'm no longer connected to the printer. BTW, It tells me the printer is ready and shows the name prior to trying to print. We've tried everything including many suggestions from others. Any suggestions? I find it strange I was able to print yesterday while connected directly and tonight it failed (otherwise the printer is working for others). THANKS SO MUCH! Frustrating to say the least but I'm NOT giving up. Carol

I should add that it's an HP photosmart 4280.I found it online and it shows the Mac 0SX operating system.

  • Connecting MacBook to printer via wireless network

I have a wireless network via cable modem with some PCs attached and a printer but am having trouble connecting my new MacBook to the HP LaserJet 2100 printer via wireless. I do not have airport express and not sure I need it to have the MacBook print to this printer. Please advise.

How is the printer connected? Are you trying to share it via a PC through wireless? Or is it connected directly to a router/hub that is enabled for printer sharing?

  • HP Device Toolbox software Error Unable to connect to the printer

    Hi guys,
I'm currently in bit of a nightmare with my HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw.
Basically I have upgraded to a new wireless router and since doing this my HP Laser Jet refuses to work / connect to the wireless network.
I have literally tried just about evey thing I can to get it to work, thoroughly through the manual, uninstalled and reinstalled the software about 12 times, tried firewalls on and off, tried security on the router on and off, tried WPS mode, tried manually entering in the IP address into the printer all without luck. You can see my dedicated thread here
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/HP-LaserJet-Pro-100-color-MFP-M175nw-un...
So currently I have the printer connect to the computer via USB and it works, so I decided to try using the HP Device toolbox software  to see if it would give me any more options to try and when I run this software I get
Error: Unable to connect to the printer, make sure your printer is properly connected and powered on and then try to open the HP device toolbox again. Arg!!!
My new router is a Billion 7800DXL, my old router which worked in wireless mode was also a Billion 7300g.
Any help would be great really stuck here

    Hello tf22raptor.
I see that you're now experiencing an issue getting the Device Tool box to run. I will try and assist with this.
After reviewing this post and the other thread, I have a few things you can try.
    1) Run MS Fix it utility to uninstall the software: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled.
(This is to make sure the software is completely removed and conflicts in the registry get resolved)
2)Msconfig: press windows key and R on the keyboard> in run box type "msconfig"> on window select "services tab"> check box next to "hide all MS services> press disable all> go to "startup" tab> press disable all> press apply and ok at the bottom> this should prompt a PC restart.
    Please restart.
    3) Re-install via USB
    4) Try running the device toolbox now
5)If still having issues installing wireless, you may have to contact the router manufacture.
I hope this helps you out. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Having trouble connecting to wireless network

Hello. I am having some difficulties connecting to my Linksys router from my Powerbook G4. Here is my issue... sometimes airport can find the wireless connection (called Linksys) and sometimes it can't. I don't understand why it does sometimes, but other times it does not. I have a brand new iMac that is always able to find the network through the airport. I've never had problems with connecting the iMac to the wireless network, it's the Powerbook that will sometimes not find the wireless network in the drop down menu through airport. I don't understand how one computer can and one computer cannot. I was thinking maybe it's because the airport card is a bit older in the Powerbook and doesn't pick up as many networks, but like I said, some of the time it works just fine and it stays working until I shut down the laptop. Any ideas? I appreciate the help.

Try the following on your Powerbook:
    1. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    2. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    3. Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.

  • I can connect my lexmark printer by usb but not wireless

i can connect my lexmark printer s400 series by usb but not wirelessly any thoughts please

I'm having the same issue. On my MBP 15" OS 10.7.3 the Lexmark printer does not connect to WIFI. It works on the USB connection. In wifi however it will work on the Virtual Box Windows 7 partition.
In my logic this means the printer is properly connected to the wifi (green indicator and working with Virtual Box and Windows 7) The MBP is properly connected to the wifi network as Virtual Box works in the Mac's environment. The printer is present in the System Preferences indicating it is Idle and does have a IP address.
When I do send a document to the printer it just sits in the Que and in System Preferences the status goes to Busy. In the Que it also indicates it is busy until it tmes out and indicate that communication with the printer is a problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • RE connecting my wireless printer

    Hi Guys
I have used my HP Desljet 3050A for years, both by cable and wirelessly, but mainly wirelessly.
I recently had a problem concerning an error message telling me my printer was in error state.
I solved that problem by deleting my printer from pc, downloaded new drivers, and now I can print ok using usb, but having trouble connecting wirelessly.
I would welcome help, but can I suggest you tell me how in simple terms otherwise it confuses.

    Hi @frenchman96,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to print wirelessly to your HP Deskjet 3050a, the printer was in an error state which required you to uninstall and reinstall the software and drivers and since then  the wireless connection has been lost. You are still able to print to the DJ 3050A with a direct connection. (USB)
From the front panel of the DJ 3050A:
Setup Menu > Wireless > Settings > Restore Defaults
Now let's go to the Computer:
    1. Unplug the USB.
    2. Remove the HP 3050A software from your computers Control Panel's Uninstall a program option.
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Make sure all the DJ 3050A software is gone from the programs list as well as your HP folder listed under the All programs in your Start Menu.
    5. Now go ahead and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows it was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.
**NOTE: Remember to select the USB to Wireless conversion, DO NOT plug in the USB until prompted, the on screen instructions will tell you when you need to remove the USB
    6. Go ahead and print a test page.
    7. If you are unable to print a test page, please run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
Please let me know if this was successful! I will watch for your reply.

  • Having problem with wi-fi printing

I had a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8, a Time Capsule (TC), and an HP 6980 printer connected via the TC so I could print wirelessly from the laptop.
In June, I replaced the Macbook Pro with a newer Macbook Pro running Mavericks (10.9.2).  I was still able to print to the printer without any problems.  In July, I had to replace the TC and by then the laptop had been upgraded to 10.9.4.  I was able to setup the printing through the TC the same as I did before.  I was able to print.  I'm still able to print... sort of...
The problem I'm having is that after I print something (or several somethings if all of them enter the queue while the first thing is still printing), the laptop can no longer print through the TC unless I power cycle the printer (the printer queue says "looking for printer").  Essentially, it seems that as soon as the printer goes "idle" the OS can no longer see it unless I power cycle the printer.  It's gotten annoying.  If I go into "Printers and Scanners" in the System Preferences app, and select "Open Print Utility", it opens up the HP print utility, finds the printer, and displays information about it including ink level.  But the print queue still says "looking for printer". I don't know if the problem is with the OS, the TC or the printer and I don't know how to figure it out for certain but the way it looks to me is that the problem is in the OS since the HP printer utility sees the printer.  I've contacted HP but since the printer is old, they won't help.  I'm trying to avoid having to buy a new printer because after buying a new laptop and TC, I'm broke. :-)
Some more information:  the TC has the IP address of 10.0.1.2, the printer has an IP address of 10.0.1.3 so I know they are on the same subnet, but I have no idea what IP address/subnet the laptop is on.  I don't see anything in the preferences to let me see or set that.  It's possible that routing is somehow not working correctly.
Also, if I go into the system information panel and select "printer" under the "hardware" heading, it lists the printer but says it's "offline".
Can anyone tell me what is going on and help me fix this?
    Thanks.

How is the printer connected to the TC?? Is it plugged in by ethernet or is it wirelessly connected or bottom of lowest.. Plugged in by USB?
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00591192.pdf
From the date in the manual this is a very old printer. And old stuff and new macs OS.. are often not a great combo.
I think a lot of the issue if you are using wireless is the networking of Mavericks.. which IMHO can be compared unfavourably to tin cans with wet string.
Did you start over on the print drivers.. ??
I would delete all printers in your computer. Download the latest drivers from HP and install them.
I would also factory reset the TC.
Which model is it and running what firmware?? 7.7.3 in the newest TC you are stuck.. if you have an older TC.. gen4 or earlier you might find earlier firmware, 7.6.1 superior to 7.6.4 .. I sure do.
    Please try the following.
    1. Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Set IPv6 to link local only in your computer.. this is crucial.
    3. Use all short names in the TC.. so base station name.. try TCgenx (I replace the x with the actual gen).
    Wireless name. TCwifi
You don't need to do this if you already have compliant names.. but please do not use names like
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule (it is wrong on many levels).
Mavericks took a new step in the direction of windows by changing to SMB protocol default. This causes unending issues.
    4. Reinstall the printer to the newly renamed wireless or ethernet setup..
Always use ethernet if it is available.. it stands head and shoulders above everything else.
Wireless is second best.. USB is worst.
    5. Test and see if you have got anywhere. If not directly plug the printer into the laptop by USB and ignore the problem!! When you have some money buy a new printer.
