I installed utorrent on my mac mini and when i restart there is a question mark on the dock

I have tried to install utorrent on my mac mini running mountain lion and each time it installs and runs fine until i restart the computer and it is no longer installed and a question mark is in its place on the dock. I am new to mac and do not know what I have to do to make sure the app remains installed after a restart.
As a bit of extra info, there is a folder on the desktop when I install the app at first and after restart that folder is no longer there as well. I am assuming this is relevent but being new to mac I am not sure what settings adjust this. Thanks for any assistance.

I figured out the problem but cannot erase this post so no more help is needed. I was pinning the open window of uTorrent as opposed to the app itself to the dock. Once I pinned the app it remained there after a restart.

I updated to Yosemite and now I can't open my YNAB finance app. There is a question mark in the Dock where the App should be and when I hover over the question mark it does say YNAB but I can't open it. When I double click on the question mark nothing happens. Has the link to YNAB been broken with the update? Has this happened to anyone else?

    Check the Application folder.
If it is not there, contact YNAB Finance for a OS X Yosemite compatible version of the application.

  • Mac Mini doesn't work:appair only a flashing question mark on the screen

I try to startup the Mac Mini but the only think that appair on the screen is a white page with in the middle a folder with a flashing question mark.
The Operative Sistem doesn't work:i wanted to try to inser into the CD of OS X and reinstall all but there is just a CD into the Mac but again with botton or with muose clicked ,the CD doens't go out.
    Please Mac's users help me.
    Bye. Alskarez
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4)

The flashing question mark means that the mini is not able to find a copy of MacOS to boot from, which is likely why you inserted the OS X disc.
If the disc that is stuck in the system is the original MacOS install disc that came with the mini, you should be able to boot to it by holding the C key down as the system is starting up. Some non-Apple or wireless keyboards don't allow starttup modifier keys to be used, but if yours is an Apple keyboard it certainly should. If it IS the original install disc in the system and the C key doesn't work, and you're left with the flashing question mark, it sounds like you may have a significant hardware fault which may have caused the mini to fail to see either optical or hard drives.
It may be that in that situation a PMU reset (for PPC minis) or an SMC reset (for Intel models) might restore operability, but if not, then you'll likely need the assistance of an Apple approved service provider.
To reset the PMU in a G4 mini:
    - Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    - Wait 10 seconds.
    - Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
    - Let go of the power button.
    - Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.
To reset the SMC on an Intel mini:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

Thanks. Where could I possibly look for a firewall rule. I knowingly did not creat any. My system has internet coming to a Modem which then is connected to a wireless router. I have computers connecting to the router through cable as well as wireless. One of these computers has been our  mailserver using Mercury and Pegasus and that computer has a static IP address. The Mac Mini also has been assigned a different srtatic IP address. I have only set up user account, none of them an email account as I initially expect them to receive only internal mails. Is it necessary that I must set up an email id for each user while setting up the user account. My server id is server.local. So would the email id for local users be [email protected]?

  • My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad

My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad. My monitor uses a HDMI cable when the mac mini is off it says no input received which it does not say so it is receiving some signal from the mac mini. I have tried a different cable and a different monitor/ hdmi cable. The fan isnt running there is no start up noise but the little light on the front blinks every 4-5 seconds. Im booked in to see a GENIUS on sunday but I was wondering if there is anything I can do in the mean time. The mac mini is only 8 months old if that. Any ideas people? Oh the mac is also running mountain lion and has been since the day of release i've never had a problem up until this.

The following table lists the new tones and their meaning:
    Tone(s)          Description
1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat          No RAM installed
3 successive tones, a 5-second pause, 3 successive tones          RAM does not pass data integrity check
1 long tone when holding down the power button          Firmware upgrade in process. See About firmware updates for Intel-based Macs for more details.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones          Firmware restoration from CD in process. See About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs) for more details.

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • I think I trashed my chess game that came installed on my computer. The Icon is on the dashboard but when I clicked on it there was a question mark within the icon and the game did not appear. How do I get it back without paying for it?

I think I accidently trashed my chess app. that came installed on my computer, how do I get it back, it isn't in my apps but on my dock and when I clicked on it a question mark showed up in the chess icon. Really dumb I know. But I am a novice at computers.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

When I updated to iOS 8.1 on my iPad 2 it failed when installing it's in recovery mode and when I go to iTunes to restore it downloads the update to about 900 Mbps then gives me error 9006

    Hi Willy,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article below provides information about specific update and restore alerts, including the 9006 alert that you saw when attempting to update your iPad 2 to iOS 8.1. Try using the instructions provided to see if the issue is caused by a conflict with the security software on your computer.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.
    I hope this helps,
    -Jason

I'm going to assume that since you deleted your hard drive and all its files, you had a backup, yes? If the backup has an OS (bootable clone), then you can boot into it by holding down the option key when you start up you iMac and choose the backup drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to copy the files back to your iMac.

Hi Forum, can u please help? iRecently bought a macbook pro and garageband 11 was working fine but now it's showing a question mark in the dock and it won't open. I think it may have been accidentally trashed. I've searched the trash and spotlighted but don't know what to do next. Any ideas? Thanks.

How  did you install GarageBand on your Mac? Did it come preinstalled with the other iLife applications?
If your MacOS supports the AppStore, you should be able to redownload GarageBand from the AppStore, see this support Article: OS X: About OS X Recovery on how to download again:
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

  • I just had more ram installed in my 2009 mac mini and now there is no audio at all.

    Hi all,
I have a late 2009 Mac Mini which I update to mavericks. This was not a great idea. The performance has been aweful since upgrading. I finally looked into adding RAM. I was told by the Genius at my local store to buy RAM on line and bring it back to the store for install. I had the Ram installed today and I am satisfied that things function much faster now.
The problem now is that the computer does not make any noise. I have speakers plugged into the headphone jack but no noise comes out. When the system boots up, there are no beeps or tones audible. The speakers were all working earlier today when I unplugged everything to take the mini to the store. I also plugged the speakers jack into my phone and they work. I was able to connect a bluetooth speaker and play music through it.
I have tried to reset the PRAM but I"m not sure if I was successful. The instructions I have read for PRAM reset say hold keys until second chime is heard. I heard no chimes at all.
I am a novice when it comes to computers but I am good at following detailed instructions.
Any help would be graetly appreciated!

Yes, this was an Apple retail location.
I made an appiontment thinking that they would sell and install the RAM. When I got there, the genius looked up the specs for my mini and said they did not sell what I needed. He explained that the mini was older and out-dated. He looked up the specs on what RAM i needed and suggested that I purchase it elsewhere and bring it back for them to install. He suggested that I purchase a new computer but I couldn't justify spending $600 or more. I am a very light user and would only be wasting money on a newer set up.
It was when I returned that I was informed (by a different tech) that Apple would not be responsible for any damage that might occur during the replacement.
I decided to proceed anyway thinking that an apple tech was less likely to do damage than I was.
After taking it in the back and swapping the chips, he brought it out, plugged it in and proceeded to open a bunch of Ram hogging apps, graphing software, and internet sites. I was happy to see that the performance was greatly improved and the spinning ball was not dominating the system.
After I hooked it back up at home and tried to play some music, I realized that there was no sound.

  • HT2129 install 10.5 on mac mini 1.42 Ghz, nothing works!

    Hi,
I want to install leopard 10.5.x on my Mac Mini 1.42 Ghz, on which I have Tiger 10.4.11, but nothing will work. My problem is that mij superdrive is defect and under Disk Utilities it issn't possible to resize my harddisk. I do have a bootable version of Leopard 10.5 but I can't get it installed on my Mac Mini.
    I have tried:
    1) Resizing my hard disk but somehow I cannot resize it, because it contains the startvolume. I wanted to make an extra partition on which I could write Leopard, but this doesn't work. I also tried to rezise it with iPartition but it gave the same message.
    2) Using my Mac Book Pro in Target Disc mode and play the DVD in it's superdrive. I can start the DVD on my Mac Mini but when it restarts it doesn't start installing and returns in its normal mode.
    3) Using my FireWire Disc on which I have installed Leopard 10.5 (with SuperDuper). Starting up my Mac Mini I held down the Alt-key but my FireWire disc doesn't appear in the list of possible bootable harddrives.
    4) I have used an usb disk drive, but it doesn't continue after restarting my Mac Mini during istallation.
    5) we want to remove the harddrive and connect it directly to my MB Pro. Maybe this way we can rezise the partition? Does anybody know?
    I am out of ideas.
What is the sollution to this problem??? Who has any other ideas?
I hope to hear from you
    Kind Regards
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
    1. I wouldn't recommend resizing it.
    2. With the Install Disc in the MBP, MBP in Target Mode, boot the Mini holding alt key to choose the Install Disc in the MBP to boot from.
(Oh, is this a gray machine specific & Intel only 10.5 Install Disc?)
    3. Is that a clone of an IntelMac install, if so, it won't ever work.
    4. Again, thinking this isn't a Retail Install Disc, but PPC Macs mostly do not boot from USB.
    5. Bad idea, the MBP would wany to make it GUID partition scheme, which is unbootable on PPC Macs.

  • Can I use my apple wireless mouse and keyboard with my Mac Mini and Windows PC?

Hello, I recently dug up a windows PC computer for side projects, and I was able to get by using my wireless apple keyboard and mouse for my Mac mini, and then using a usb mouse for my PC, I want to eliminate the usb keyboard and mouse and just use the bluetooth keyboard. Both computers are usually on all the time, and the windows PC uses a bluetooth adapter. I can get my keyboard and mouse to work on both, but I have to sync them to whatever system I would like everytime I want to use it. Is there any solution that when I choose the Mac Mini my keyboard and mouse will work for the Mac mini, and when I choose my windows pc, the keyboard will only be used on windows without having to resync?

    To my knowledge, no.
