You should download and install iBooks first and then buy books from the iBooks Store. You worked backwards. Where did you but the book? Or where did you download it from?

To avoid having to pay again for apps you have already purchased, use the same Apple ID (likely the current one) on both devices. You can adjust this in:
Settings > iTunes & App Store.
So that you can communicate with each other, use separate Apple IDs for iCloud, Messages, and FaceTime. Adjust those in:
Settings > iCloud
Settings > Messages
Settings > FaceTime

I have just bought an iPad air and constantly get the screen with the stars freeze and can't do anything. Have done the power off etc, still happens inconsistent freezing on that same screen. Is this pad got a glitch?

Inconsistent ability to unlock ipad at the strary screen. Sometimes it does sometimes not getting very sick of it freezing and not being able to do anything,bought this just yesterday! I haven't done it. But if you set it up as new, just long enough to be able to update the operating system. Then go in and 'erase all content and settings'. This puts your iPad back to its out of box state, just not the operating system. You can then set your iPad up again, but this time you restore it from the backup of your old one.

iOS apps will not open in iTunes. iTunes will sync your downloaded apps to your iOS devices (iPhone or iPad) only.
1. Login into your iTunes account
2. Authorize your Macbook Air
3. Download all your purchased apps to iTunes
4. Sync with your iPhone.

Select: Contacts
Give iCloud a few minutes to sync the data.
For the iPad, make sure Contacts is switched on. Tap Settings > iCloud

I purchased a book through iTunes and it downloaded. I synced with my iPad. It shows the book is downloading but that has been going on for two hours and i still can't open the book.

Try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account (Store > View My Apple ID on iTunes 11) and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that book, click the arrow to the left of it, click the 'Report a Problem' button :
and then the 'Report a Problem' link on its line :
and select 'inadvertently purchased' as the problem and fill in the details (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
